Just wanted to give an update. I've now been on the Dexcom G6 and Tandem TSlim X2 for just over 3 months now. I seen my Endocrinologist yesterday 12/29/2020 and my A1C is down from 9.8 on the 670G to 7 with the TSlim. I couldn't be happier being on the TSlim. I highly recommend it!
Did you just hear that *crash* *thump*? That was me falling over onto the side of Tandem. I was leaning that way from Medtronic (I want my Animas back!).. and your video helped push me over the edge. :-) This Nov it will be 45 years as a T1D, and loving the pump technology, and it's time for a new one.... Thanks for posting!
@@originalblueflicker my 2 year old is on a tslim running closed loop. I've been a Medtronic user for 7 years, t1d for 33. I was torn between a 780g or a t-slim X2. My kids has bricked twice in 3 days which has scared me, but I still hate the enlight sensors. I'm probably going to go to t-slim and keep all the pumps in the house the same
@@s0l1dsnak3 I'm afraid that I do not know what you mean by "bricked". :-( I have been using Medtronic for the past 3 years and it's died on me twice. Once was last year at the beginning of the lock down, 3am a shrill alarm went off and no prior warnings. Stopped dead. The # on the pump was for the US, and i'm in Canada which caused a delay in helping me out .. but I also had to go find syringes at 4am in order to keep me going with insulin until the new pump arrived. I *never* had one single issue with my Animas pump. Anyho.. hope it works out for you.. :-)
Thanks for this informative video. I talked to my endocrinologist and he gave me a couple of choices to decide. From watching your video, the tanden and dexcom is the clear winner which i think i will go with.
I have been on Medtronic pumps for the last 18 years, I have had no issues with them....until the 670G...it's like I adopted a 2 year old toddler! It is a constant battle trying to keep it in range, calibrating all of the time, and beeping all night...I was looking for a new pump and found the TSlim, but was worried I would be trading 1 headache for another, but after seeing this, I think I am ready to pull the trigger and drop Minimed, thanks for this review!
77-DM typ-1, 15years with MT-Pump. I wish i knew it 3 years ago, I ve been so foolish with Transmitter 3 + sensorG6, At last I gave up MT-670G and I tried DEXCOM6 by 3 weeks and it is accuracy become 95% or better of BG reading. So I ask my Dr-endo and report, Now i am waiting to receive the TandemX2. I am very exiting to use new pump. I agree with you millions times. Thank you for your life-savings Infos.
My son is seeing his doctor on Thursday and he has been happy with the 670. I would like him to change to the Tslim as I like the features more. I believe that your video helped him. Thank you for the video.
Stumbled onto this video…great review! Wish I had found it sooner. Currently using a 670G and have HATED it from the start! I have experienced everything mentioned in this video and thought I was doing something wrong even though I followed all the instructions from the trainer. I have gained so much weight just from treating lows and now I feel worse than I did before starting pump Therapy 25 years ago! A month ago I started using a Dexcom G7 and feel a little better but am planning to switch to a tslim within the next four months… enough BS!
I had my Medtronic alarm blast off at 3am one day last year just after we all went into lockdown! Freaked me out.. so loud.. no prior warnings or anything, just a loud wailing alarm and no longer working. Had to find a pharmacy for syringes to keep me going until a replacement showed up. Second error with their pump within a short period of 3 years after being with Animas for 9 years and no issues. Hellllloooo Tandem! lol
Thank you very much! I'm another 670G /Guardian user and my pump just went out of warranty and this is the 1st time in many years that I'm looking at another company's option after my Dr suggested I look into the TSlim along with the 770G. Your video was very helpful. I have experienced many of the issues you mentioned like the 670G still giving microboluses despite below quite low, constantly kicked out of automode requiring a BG especially overnight, automode can't keep up with morning BS spike (Dr constantly accuses me of not bolusing for my breakfast...not true almost 100% of the time, just spike after I get up)... Thank you again. With your positive review and helpful information, I now feel comfortable contacting Tandem about getting their pump.
Still highly recommend it. I just seen my Endo yesterday and my A1C is down from 9.8 on the 670G to 7 on the TSlim in just 3 months. I couldn't be happier with the TSlim. Glad I could help.
Thank you for your video and information. I have been on Medtronic and 96.8% of the time in auto mode. No sleep, alarms, in and out of auto mode for not calibrating within a certain time, too many adjustments and often while I’m driving. Finally I’m out of warranty and free to choose Omni pod or Tandem. I’m going with Tandem as the Omni pod is not yet apple/iOS device and as a technologist just going to rely on a pump unit and Dexcom.
Thanks for the video. I have different sensors but I didn’t find them accurate and would always check the highs and lows with a finger prick. Then I tried the Dexcom. It’s reliable and so easy to look at my phone for the reading. I’ve got a good record of control over the past 13 years but will give tandem a go. This video made my mind up so cheers !
I've been Diabetic for almost 20 years now. Switching to Dexcom and Tandem was the best decision I've ever made. I wish I would have switched way sooner. It's changed my life. Bolus from your phone now, actually get sleep, the goods just keep going. I had nothing but problems with my Medtronic pumps and Sensors. Dexcom also starts right up, last 10 days and the new G7 is supposed to be even better at 14 days. I also use Sugar mate on my computer while working. Shows my blood sugars and I can even just say "Alex ask sugarcane what my current blood sugars are" will respond "Your blood sugars are 125 and steady, they are 3 lower than your last reading". Or will even tell me if I'm trending high or low. I tell you, Dexcom and Tandem are 110% the way to go. Hope you get them. Thanks for stopping by and take care!
The best video comparison I’ve seen. Waiting for my warranty to be up so I can switch to tandem. I can’t seem to keep myself in range with the Medtronic system either… A1C is 8.1. I’ve recently had to receive shots in my eye for retinopathy so I’m afraid it’s too little too late, but anything to help slow the process. Again, thanks for the video 👍🏻
Austin, I know that exact feeling. In September when I switched I had a eye doctor appt. I was told I had to see a specialist. I went and seen a Eye Doc that specializes in people with Diabetes. I was told I had severe Retinopathy. I had a Eylea shot in my left eye and laser in my right eye. During the month and a half waiting I kept thinking its too late, Im only 33 and going to loose my vision. Well, I had the Shot, and laser and went in for a month check up. The eye Doc said things were looking ok. I was still very concerned. I Started on the TSlim all while this was going on. My A1C was always in the Low 8 to high 9 on the 670G. Within 2 1/2 months on the TSlim I was down to a 7.2 A1C. I had another check up with my Eye Doc. As soon as I walked into the office I seen the Eye shot sitting on the counter and was terrified. They checked my eyes and the Eye doc came in and showed me the difference from October 12th to December 29th. My swelling and eye damage had gone almost all the way down. The Eye doc was even in shock. I didnt need a shot and he said things were looking amazing. I know EXACTLY how you feel. Just know there IS hope. I have been in that exact same spot. I will tell you the TSlim and G6 is a life saver. It is so so much better than the 670G and keeps my Blood Sugars near perfect. I go in for a eye check up on Monday. If you ever need to talk, please feel free to PM me on Facebook or send me an Email.
@@Moyersteven1 ty for sharing . My son is 21 now.. been with medtronic since he is 6yrs..We are having a Warm time with managing. He sleep like a log. Always need calibration.. he doesn't recognize lows and now that he is older I need to back from hovering but still need to help. So having access to reading with my phone will settle my nerves. We are trying to get him to manage everything better but it's alot harding with a ** adult.. lol.. he wanted tube less pump but not sure if there is any with cgm
Thanks for the video. I've had the 670g since it was released and I stopped using the auto mode & Gaurdian CGM over a year ago - just couldn't handle all of the alarms & interruptions, terrible inaccuracy, and high maintenance. I thought Auto Mode would be a life changer but it just drove me mad half the time. I'm out of warranty now and the Medtronic reps are trying to sell me the 770/780G, but I think I want to try the t:slim + g6 combo instead... Maybe I'd actually use it's features!
Been on the 670G for 3 years now and the amount of times the bloody sensor fails drives me off the walls! I also find it quite difficult to insert the sensor independently due to the klunky infusion system. Don’t get me started on the calibrations! Will definitely be thinking about the t slim now. Seems so much easier!
man this thing is epic. i had complications for a few years with insulin price and diabetes. once i got it took them a year to get me a pump but this thing is beast. after u find correct bolus and food its amazing it corects if needed once an hour, its like thoughtless just got to count carbs and thats it. never need to calibrate, charge it twice a week, simple and easy ecosystem, shares blood sugar with doctors family members people in the house to check on u will also send alarms if too high or two low g6 sensors amzing just wish app had a notepad. its an amazing thing man and i would recommend it
Thank you for this video. I hated the 670g. I never got any sleep and constantly had to calibrate. My warranty is up in July and I am switching to the Tandem. The 679g also dumped a bunch of insulin into me and I got so sick. They sent me a replacement pump but I was too scared to put it back on. I am already wearing the Dexcom 6 cgm. I get my Tandem in early July. Thanks, again, for the information
Excellent video on the tandem pump I also use a med Tronic 670 G and I am very tired of it goes off a lot with your video was great I appreciate it and I will keep following you thank you
Thank you! I was forced by United Health Care to the 670g w the absolutely frustrating Auto and constant needs for calibration and entering BG just to keep in Auto mode. Worse was constantly being woken up from deep sleep just to babysit my 670g. I loved my older t-slim with g4 cgm and I’m very interested to break out the $999 to break my 670g warranty and get the X2 that I really want and need. Your review has convinced me to drop the $999 and get the t-slim x2 w control IQ. The guardian is less accurate than my Dexcom g4 and requires calibrations all day long and frequently at night. I’m hoping the Dexcom G6 is even better as promised and I can get a full nights sleep for once. Boo hiss to Medtronic 670g yeah hurray for the t-slim x2 w Dexcom g6 and Control IQ
Definitely worth it. That was one big thing with insurance for me. They approved the switch with still over a year of warranty left on my 670G. You will LOVE the G6 and TSlim. Its been a life changer for me. Best of luck. Take care.
Having T1D is bad enough without having to deal with the whims of insurance companies, which sometimes only cover inferior products. My T1D diagnosis was in 1963, and over the years I have used 3 Medtronic, 1 Asante SNAP and 1 Animas Vibe pump. I switched to the t:slim X2 in October 2019 and switched from Basal IQ to Control IQ in February 2020, and couldn't be happier. Unfortunately, Medtronic often releases products without thoroughly testing them. My first Medtronic Paradigm pump had volatile memory, and rewinding the piston or replacing the battery often wiped out all settings: date and time, language, basal settings, bolus permissions (square wave/dual wave), etc. Somehow, the federal government never recalled the pump, even though loss of pump settings could potentially cause injury or death. Medtronic was aware of this defect and developed a replacement pump with non-volatile memory. When I called Customer Service for a replacement pump, the rep explained that I would need to wait until the 4-year warranty expired. I had to call a supervisor, who then sent a replacement pump. Medtronic has also released defective infusion sets that required recalls. The 670G has had numerous Auto Mode issues and issues with defective parts, requiring users to request and wait for a replacement pump. In 2019, a woman I see at annual conferences explained that Medtronic had to send three 670G pump replacements before she reveived one that works. That's one reason I chose the t:slim X2 over the Medtronic 670G. I have no confidence in Medtronic products or customer service, and hopefully will never be forced (through insurance) to wear a Medtronic product again.
@@martyfeinstein8197 The Faulty Medtronic pump caused me to end up in the hospital 3 times. I'm currently in the middle of a class action lawsuit against them. It really messed me up.
@@Moyersteven1 Sorry to hear about your hospitalizations and wish you well. I enjoy watching your informative videos. In the mid-1990s, Medtronic released a new infusion set, and I noticed right away that my BG would often spike, sometimes requiring a replacement infusion set on the first day. I have experienced severe hypoglycemia unawareness since the late 1960s, and prior to CGMs, used to test my BG every few hours to prevent hypoglycemia. I noticed that many of the new infusion sets were defective right away. When I called Medtronic and started to explain the problem, the rep cut me off and said, "We know why you're calling." She explained that the federal government had just issued a recall the day before, and that I would be receiving instructions for returning the defective sets and would receive a replacement order with the infusion sets that I had previously used. The Medtronic CEO sent out apology letters to everyone who had used the defective infusion sets. Medtronic was in a rush to offer the first closed-loop system, and did not test the 670G long enough to uncover its many defects. Over the years, Medtronic has also needed to recall defective cardiac devices many times. It seems that the company is more concerned with profits than with quality-control. Hang in there! Thankfully, my A1Cs have always been good, but with Control IQ, my last A1C was 5.5% and time-in-range has improved. With Basal IQ, the previous two A1Cs were 6.3% and 6.2%.
Definitely go with TSlim X2 and Dexcom. It's so so much better. I can't express how much happier and better the TSlim and Dexcom has been. My Blood sugars have never been better in 19 years of being Diabetic. Highly highly recommend them. I wish you the best!
Awesome great video thank you. I’ve been on the 670 G for a long time and I’m getting sick of the issues. My pump keeps asking for calibration and doesn’t accept them. Never works thought the night and beeps and wakes up my wife. Mine is also kept cracking on me. I think I’m ready to switch over to Tandem. Thanks for the help with my decision.
Im surprised Medronics has fallen so far behind. They were the ONLY real option for a few decades. Insurance is switching me to tandem, and I started on te Dexcom CGM few days ago, and love it!
I agree with your Medtronic remarks. However, want to point out that Medtronic's auto mode algorithm is set to keep sensor glucose (interstitial glucose, not blood) at 150, not 120 as you describe. So, for most folks that factor already keeps it out of a range of 115-135. This 150 level is not adjustable by patient or physician. One more reason that one has to deal with the technology on the Medtronic 670G. Lots of other issues with the 670G. My endocrinologist is recommending the TSlim X2 with the Dexcom G6 sensor. My only concern: trust the sensor technology for accuracy all the time? I think I would want to back it up with good old fashion fingerstick to be sure (like Justin Wilson, the Cajun Chef: Belt and suspenders!) Has anyone had experience with inaccurate sensor readings on the Dexcom, when compared to fingerstick BG?
I have found now wearing the Pump for a year. I had also wore the Dexcom G6 with My Medtronic Pumo and Sensors for 6 months that the Dexcom G6 is 99% of the time spot on. I very often have (Usually on days I change sensors) BG exact same BG readings on my Dexcom and a finger stick reading. Once in a while I will also check with finger stick meter because I'm not feeling right and the readings are never off more than 10-15 md/dl. Most times it's always within 5 points of my meter. I chalk that up to margin of error. I'm still so happy I went tonTSlim and Dexcom. Best decision of my life. My Blood sugars have never been better. There ate also many choices of cases to wear on suspenders, dresses, bras, pants and Shorts. Hope this helped you and best of luck and health. Thanks for stopping by.
No. Wrong. Incorrect. The Medtronic 670G auto mode is supposed to keep your blood sugar at 120. The 670G also has a Temp Target setting that changes the blood sugar level target to 150. It is an optional setting you may use when doing some exercise such as all day bicycling or running a marathon and believe the higher blood sugar is safer as a target. The 670G changes its five minute basal doses to meet the 120, or 150 with Temp Target option. The 670G also suggests an automatic bolus if you enter a blood sugar from your meter that is above 150 I believe. The pump will suggest a bolus to bring your blood sugar down. Its a partial bolus to bring your blood sugar down. Not the full amount of insulin needed to bring your blood sugar back to 120. You have to manually tell the pump to give this suggested correction bolus.
If you are referring to the 670G when you write auto mode, then it does not automatically give correction boluses. With the 670G it changes the five minute basal amount to keep your blood sugar at 120. Give or take, plus or minus, up or down, white or black, on or off. It doesn't really do a very good job of it. That is the auto mode for changing basal insulin. The correction boluses are only offered by the pump when you manually enter, or bluetooth with the Bayer Contour meter, a blood sugar. If the blood sugar is above 150 I believe, then the pump suggests a correction bolus to bring your blood sugar back down to 120. Its a partial, weak, correction bolus. You have to manually OK it and tell the pump to give you this correction bolus.
I have been t1d 29 years. I have only used Medtronic pumps. I am currently on the 670g. With the guardian sensor. Which you hit the nail on the head about how it’s never accurate!! My Endo was telling me about the T slim tandem pump. My biggest fear is going low? Do you feel that you are low a lot on the tandem? How is it when you correct a low blood sugar, does the pump ever over correct? Do you find that your A1C has been better now that you are on the tandem? Thanks for your awesome video. I am so happy you made this for all of us. Have a great day 😊
The TSlim has been absolutely AMAZING. I never really have fear of going low with the TSlim. On the 670G I did. The TSlim won't over correct. It actually works way better than the 670G. My A1C has gone from being 8.8-9.2 on the 670G down to 7 in just 3 months. It's the best decision I've ever made in the almost 20 years of being Type 1. My blood sugars have never been better. I can start a new sensor and not have to worry about calibrating it. It does it all on its own. I actually get to sleep all night without any alarms and my BG stays very steady. I wake up every morning with perfect blood sugars. I've had those bad nights where I accidentally ripped out a sensor at 10PM. I put a new one on and I was high. A bit over 200, I fell asleep. I woke up a few hours later, sensor started on its own and automatically corrected my high. I dont have to worry about it kicking me out of "Automode" Called Control IQ on the TSlim. The TSlim will never kick you out. It is so awesome how it automatically corrects highs and lows. Im telling you it is 1000% worth it. My G6 sensors are never and I mean never off. My pump will say they are 115 and my meter will be within 5 points everytime. It awesome being able to see all the info on your pump, Phone, watch and you can even have others see your blood sugars. On the phone you can see active insulin, basil rates, battery, A1C, 2-7-14 & 90 day trends and much more.. My only regret is that I wish I had started it sooner. I rarely speak highly of things but this pump is absolutely the best. I Highly highly recommend it. I hope this helps.
@@Moyersteven1 Wow!! Thanks so much. Great job with your A1C. I could not imagine a sensor that actually works. Lol. Do you still check your Bs as frequently now? With the dexcom can you inject anywhere or just the stomach? I can not imagine just injecting a sensor and not doing anything. Was that hard to get used to? Was there a learning curve with the Tslim? This pump seems so amazing. Thank you for all your help.
My Medtronic MiniMed 670g warranty is up in May and I found your review very helpful. The babysitting of the auto mode is very frustrating however my A1C is in the 7.0 range with the pump therapy. Like the attraction of the decom sensor and not having to use a meter 4 or more times a day and having the pump doing the work instead of me. My fear is having to charge it or forgetting to charge it, touch screen getting touched when not supposed to, and the infusion sets extra steps or getting snagged on my clothes because of the clip between the two cables. Change is a bit scary. Wondering if you still like the tandem after a couple of years. Thanks again for the review.
Thanks so much for the comprehensive side by side comparison! That’s the first I’ve seen it done so well. I’m looking to switch from omnipod to the Tslim for control iq. Does it ask permission each time I gives an automatic bolus? Do you have to agree or does it just beep and then deliver automatically? Or is is silent. Thanks so much!!
Its totally silent. Sometimes if you look at the pump you can see it saying "Delivering Bolus CIQ" and you can also see them in the Tslim App. Pump has been absolutely awesome. I can't recommend it enough.
Excellent video! Just what I needed to see since I'm in the market for a new pump having been on the 670G. A few questions abt the Tandem. 1) How long should the infusion set be worn? 2. Is there a meter which transfer a BG to the pump automatically or you need to input it manually? 3. If the readings are accurate, can they be used for a meal bolus instead of a doing a BG? 4. How would you know if the Dexcom lost its connection to the pump? Are there any audible alerts and if so what are they for? Thanks for your reply.
To answer your questions 1) Depending on Infusion set 3-5 days. Same as the 670G. 2) I'm not aware of a meter bit I'm sure 5here is since the TSlim has Bluetooth. 3) Yes Dexcom is the only sensor that you can bolus off of. It is actually automatically put into the pump. 4) Yes there is a auditable sound and vibration that alerts you. It also shows on the pump. The nice thing is it's all on your phone too. Pump, BG, A1C, Settings, Current Basil rate, Active Insulin. Everything. This pump is by far way better than Medtronic and I couldn't be happier with it. It has been the best decision of my life and has Brought my A1C down substantially. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me. Hope this helps.
Thx for the info !! I've been trying to decide between thr Madtronic 770G and the Tandem C IQ T-Slim. The Tandem sounds great. My only concern is that it needs to be charged vs using a AA battery. How long does it take to chg and how long does it last? And, when do you chg it since you've got to wear the pump 24/7? None of this info is on the Tandem site. Thx Linda
The pump can fully xharge in under an hour. And last me over a week. I usually just plug in every other day when in the shower and last me. I find it a lot more convenient than the Medtronic. The sensor also last 10 days vs only 7. I wouldn't go back to Medtronic if I was paid.
I absolutely cannot wait to get away from medtronic and switch to tandem. Nothing but issues with their sensors, their software, their customer service, and everything in between. such a headache.
I have the new Medtronic 770g and it's still very hard to get a goodnight sleep with the calibration notice firing and stopping the CGM if not calibrated or checked BG. The sensor was no good out of the box with spotty readings and the app is okay with not a lot of info on there. I want to switch to the T-Slim will need to contact my insurance if not the switch will be out of pocket :(
Hi, Your video is great. Type ! x 60yrs. Medtronic pump x 20 yrs. Want to switch to TSlim X2. Tell me how you learned how to use the TSlim, how are service providers at TSlim and how do you update pump and charging appears to be a hassle? Thanks for any help!
Hey Stephen, I learned to use the TSlim from a 1 hour session with a Pump trainer over Zoom. Its very very easy to use. I find the TSlim a lot easier to use than the Medtronic. Its so so nice to have a touch screen. The TSlim also comes with a book with all the training in it as well. But the purchase of the pump comes with free training. The service providers are absolutely amazing. Charging the pump is very easy. Depending on your settings (Screen brightness, vibration, screen on time and some other settings) I get well over a week. The pump will fully charge in the time it takes you to take a shower. So i just plug it in once or twice a week when I jump in the shower. If I forget to charge it, ill just plug it in while at my computer. Updates are super easy as well. Just use the charge cable and plug it into your PC. I could not be happier on this pump. In the 1st 2 months on this pump my A1c went from the 9's down to 7. The sensors are also super accurate and its great being ablew to see everything on your phone or even ask "Alexa, what are my current blood sugars" I highly recommend the TSlim. My only regret it that I wish I would have started it sooner! Hope this helps. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. Stay safe and thanks for stopping by!
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S8__zp7PdZM.html 23 or 43 inches for the tubing. The tubing, cannula, infusion set is separate from the pump. It connects to the reservoir of insulin in the pump.
Thanks for your video! Am wondering why it took you eight months to get on the Tandem? I've loved Medtronic because it's easy and quick, but not very accurate so would like to switch asap. Could putting the insulin in a bag become a problem in the cold Michigan winters or/and hot humid summers?
It took me that long because my Medtronic 670G was still under warranty for 1½ years. So it was a process to get my insurance to cover it. I actually think the Tandem is better off in regards to the insulin in the reservoirs. Because it's inside a bad that is inside thick plastic. We as the Medtronic is just in a reservoir. I will also say that the TSlim has been the best decision I've ever made. It is far better than the Medtronic 670G. Very accurate, no more stupid alarms, I don't get woken up in the middle of the night and it keeps my Blood sugars in range way better. I went from being in the high 9's A1C to 7 in just 3 months on the TSlim. I highly recommend the TSlim and G6. Its absolutely AMAZING!
1000% I would. I wouldn't care if they gave me the Medtronic for free. Switching from Medtronic to G6 and TSlim was the best decision I've made in the 18 years of being Diabetic. The 780G is a little upgrade from the 670G but still uses the same crappy sensors and looks identical to the 670G. TSlim and Dexcom are still generations ahead of Medtronic. I wouldn't even consider Medtronic. Hope that helps.
@@Moyersteven1 Thank you mister. I am sure now that I will go with the Tandem and g6. I've done so much research but just needed a good opinion of someone who had/has experience with medtronic and tandem. Thanks man. Merry Christmas and a happy new year too
i ended up with a minimed 670g pump and continual glucose monitoring system as it was the only brand my private United Healthcare health insurance covered in virginia. I wanted a T2 Slim as it worked with my dexcom system and was and still am dissatisfied with medtronic's accuracy system. Has anyone else ran into the same problem?
I'll add one correction to your video. The 670G has BG target ranges that can be set for multiple time periods throughout the day. If you always go to bed at 10pm and wake at 6am, you can set the target for that time period differently from your target during the day. Otherwise, I appreciate the review. I've been on Medtronic pumps for 30+ years, and just recently was introduced to the idea of switching brands. Testing a sample of the Dexcom sensor now. I hate the persistence of the warnings coming from my phone! Every 5 minutes, it screams at me while my BG is over my "high" limit or under my "low" limit. The Medtronic warns me, but with a silent vibration, ONCE (assuming I acknowledge it), so the people around me never need to hear it. Thanks for the view of the reservoirs! That t:lock connector on the reservoir seems like it would be very annoying, potentially getting caught on clothing, or pinched in a waistline (tucked-in shirt with a belt). Not to mention being an eyesore if left visible. As for the holsters, have you tried the t:Holster? It looks a lot like that aftermarket one, but is $25 cheaper and has a spring-loaded clip (the only thing that has kept me using the OEM clip for the 670G that keeps breaking).
I have had the 670G for awhile now at first it was great after getting past the learning curve. My current frustrations stem for the SLOW user interface and the unbelievingly nagging sound of the vibrations and beeps. I know it sounds picky but after years the very unpleasant sounds and rattily vibration sounds, it has gotten to me. + When I do look give the 670 the attention it screams for it makes me wait!!! Sometimes for like 6 seconds or more (probably a bit less, but it sure feels that long) not cool at all, especially at night. My only question does the Tslim have a better UI than the 670?
The T:Slim is not waterproof at all. Just like the 670G is not waterproof. Its very easy to disconnect for a shower. The cannula is stuck on your body. It has a sticker that sticks to your skin. The tubing connects to the cannula with a small plastic clip. You just unclip it and leave the pump and tubing on the sink. And you shower with the cannula still stuck on your body. Its the size of a quarter coin. Sticks up a quarter inch in height.
I tested the Medtronic's CGM 15 or more years ago. I did a finger prick at least every 4 hours so they could compare what the sensor saw vs my meter. then i got the 530G with CGM years later (now that it was FDA approved) and if i remember correctly, i had to calibrate every 6 or 8 hours and couldn't eat 2 hours prior to the calibration. needless to say, i stopped using that and it was awful. does the newer CGM still require calibration and/or not eating for a few hours prior? I'm on the Dexcom G6 now and it's amazing but I'm not a fan of the res and recharge battery on the X2 (as the bat will eventual not hold a charge and need replaced and i doubt it's user replaceable). I really like the 670/770G res and ability to quickly swap AAA and keep going but HATE their CGM. Is it annoying to get all the air out of the res on the X2 and does it take a lot longer like double the time or just a bit longer. thanks
Yes, the current Medtronic Sensors are still like that. You MUST calibrate every 12 hours otherwise it will kick out out. You can eat (though they say it's not recommended). The Medtronic is absolutely a pain. I would never go back to it after being on the Dexcom.
@@lydianelson7464 No. The 670G only operates in Auto Mode if it is connected to the Guardian CGMS. You can use the 670G in manual normal pump mode and use any or no CGMS too, like the Dexcom. But then you do not get the advanced, better automatic basal keeping your blood sugar at a good level feature. You have to use a programmed in basal pattern that does not automatically change based on CGMS readings. You can use any pump with any CGMS and they will operate completely separately. But you can only get the combined magic (?) of automatically having your blood sugars at a certain level if you use the 670G with the Guardian CGMS.
Hi thank you for the review. What about Tandem customer service? I am on MDI so I surely will need help at some point. Did you experiment it. I live in Quebec (french). Thank you. Lyette
Most people change pumps every four years because that is the warranty length on insulin pumps. And insurance companies do not pay for a new insulin pump unless it is out of warranty. And people change pumps when the warranty expires because the technology has been changing in insulin pumps and CGMS so quickly in the last 5-10 years. Everyone wants the most up to date technology to control their diabetes. If the price is the same (free due to insurance) then why not get the most advanced best modern up to date technology? If a computer is the same price but offers either Intel i3, i5, i7, or i9 processors, which processor will you choose?
I have heard that the T slim can only be used with Humalog or NovoLog insulin. Currently I am on Fiasp insulin, an extremely quick acting insulin. Can you share any experience with the insulins recommended for the T slim pump?
I have actually used Fiasp in my TSlim for a few months. I love Fiasp but my insurance changed so I have to use Novolog. But I used Fiasp with no problem. The TSLIM is an absolute game changer.
The 770G still uses the same sensors. It's just a slightly updated version of the 670G. I would still Definitely go with the TSlim. I was offered the 770G as well.
Now, I can confim most of your points. I recently dumped the P.O.S. Medtronic 670 for the better T/slim. However, there are some areas of the T/slim I akready don't like. That stupid connection to the reservoir. I am not a fan of the "anchor" looking for something to grab on to while using the pump. The filling part has got to be a nightmare for those with shaky hands. Not me, but it is not good. On the sensor reading part, Dexcom for the win! The Medtronic has the better "form factor" tho. Lower profile and less likely to get caught on clothes. Accuracy is trash on Medtronic. They probably KNOW that. That would explain why the Auto Mode is also garbage. It is interesting that the false numbers are always "lower" than fingersticks. Yiu go to the Endo and your numbers "look" awesome. 😂😂😂😂 Tandem needs to improve the water protection rating. Medtronic wins on that one. And the disconnect for Tandem infusion sets sucks in my opinion. Final critique... I personally don't need to have 100 apps to review my info. The Medtronic pump being all in one with more review options was better. Tandem and T-connect have some but you can't drill down on data points that you can on the 679g pump. PS- sorry one more. IDK why you would think "updates" are a key feature to have. The pumps usually have a 4 year warranty so there isn't a reason to need such a feature. It's not like UPDATES are going to be FDA approve fast. 😂😂😂 And I woukd rather have the NEW equipment every 4 years than have my pump held together with tape but have possible updates to keep it "new." 😂😂😂😂 I for one, hate the updates on my PC and phone.
The Tandem doesn't actually give you "correction bolusES." It will ONLY give you ONE(1) correction an hour. If you miss a meal bolus, DO NOT expect it to fix your mistake.
Medtronic is garbage, and all their product RECALLS prove it. My 1st 670g had a clear ring and was subject to one of the recalls. It wasn't broken, but Medtronic kept bishing about getting it back. I finally agreed after the AUTO mode tried to kill me in my sleep. I ran less than a 45 mg/dL for 3 hours, and it kept giving me microboluses. After several calls to tech support and local rep... they claimed it was a "design feature." They tried to say it was to prevent DKA. I have asked, and Google'd that, and there is no mention ANYWHERE that DKA happens with low Bg.😂😂😂😂😂 I immediately stopped AUTO mode usage. My time in range actually improved.
Great review. I have been on Medtronic pumps for a long time. Currently on 770g which is only slightly better than the 670. The sensors, like you said, are crap. In the past I just threw away a sensor that would stop or lose connection pre 7 days. I finally got tired of the waste and started having them replace them. That is when I realized how bad these sensors actually are. But the real reason I watched your video, which is great, is because I have noticed the situation where my blood sugar can be reading 40-60 and I am shaky and my pump is STILL giving me microbolus' . So.. I'm trying to decide between the Tslim or the Omnipod and going to the Dexcom sensors. Thank you for being so thorough in your review.
Hey the same thing happened to me. One night I was crashing from 120mg/dL all the way to 40. This stupid pump, kept delivering "minimal basal delivery"(their words). This was a concern of mine so I called to discuss with Medtronic. The tech support for THIS call was not helpful. I escalated the call to a supervisor, NO not Karen style. Two days later and a few HOURS of explaining how UNSAFE this design was, the scheduled a call with a local territory rep. They were sticking with the answer and said it was a design FEATURE. The pump does this, according to THEM, to keep you from going DKA. If I had no clue, I might have believed this BS. However, you would be in a coma from low Bg long before DKA was a concern. They also collectively think, I use that word begrudgingly, that .025 of a unit every 5 minutes isn't that much. For a type 2, maybe. I use 1.25 approx. units per hour, that's 0.1 unit every 5 minutes. BTW this is actually assuming ALL my normal insulin dosing was just for basal. The worst part is these smart people are selling and promoting their product as safe product. They say to use it, you need to take at least 8 units per day. Well, 30 units clearly is ok. So after callings several times and getting the excuses and the (it's your fault vibe), I made a report to the FDA. I suggest you do the same IF you have thus issue too.
This is the best comparison I have ever seen of these two pumps! I was on the 670g for four years. While it was revolutionary at the time it came out the mediocre sensor and endless calibrations and Auto Mode exits made it a hassle. 95% of the time my BG was higher than the sensor. I started on the X2 today and see improvements in every way but two; filling a new reservoir takes almost 5 times as long as the Medtronic. I also hate the infusion set insertion process. You showed the old Medtronic Mio but the new one has a great inserter; remove the tape, press it on your skin and press the button. No tubing to unwrap nothing to cock back no awkward buttons to press.
Thanks for this interesting video and the comments from viewers. Okaaaay! I’ve been looking for videos from people who switch from Tandem to Medtronic and so far, nothing. I’ve used Medtronic for decades and now another pump warranty is up and I’m doing my due diligence to select the next pump. Previously I just took whatever Medtronic was graduate to, but the sensor experience was awful. Enter Dexcom. Enter what pump Dexcom pairs with. Looks like Tandem it is. Imagine, pump selection driven by the CGM.
Thanks for stopping by. I still love my Tandem and Dexcom. It's a completely different experience from Medtronic. The G6 and TSlim is absolutely AMAZING. I highly recommend it. Go for it, you definitely will not be disappointed. Best of luck!
Hi The comparison I made between the two insulin pumps was great and very informative and it came to my mind a question, how many hours will the Tandem pump battery charge last if the battery was charged to 100% ??
I'm an Omnipod fan..been on several pumps im my 30years but never have used Medtronics..I do however have my eye on the tslim in the future but with Omnipod coming out with the Omnipod 5/Horizon loop ..I think I might still stay with Omnipod
@@gadnes330 omnipod has been teasing us with the 5 for 2-3 years..im done. They just submitted to FDA and the FDA is so far behind and I doubt it comes out this year or even next year no matter what omnipod says.. I'm going to roll with tandem who has their stuff together.
Nice review. I'm also a minimed user (22yrs) and on the 670g running full auto the last 2yrs. My G3 readings aren't too far off most of the time. But keeping in full auto is a job and requires a lot of babysitting. Mine is up for replacement and definitely considering the Tslim. Thanks for all the details.
I used minimed for years had the 670g and guardian sensors and hated them both, switched to tslim with control iq and g6 almost a year ago and love them both, my control is better and easier than ever. You can't go wrong with tslim and dexcom believe me.
The pump will fully charge in about 30-45 minutes and usually last me 7-10 days. I usually just plug in when in the shower or car, at my desk and can get around 25-30% in a 10 minute shower. The TSLIM is amazing and to this day I'm so glad I switched. My Blood sugars have never been better.
As someone who's almost done with his 4 year 670g contract, I'm very exited to switch to tslim2 soon! The whole "learning and adapting" idea behind medtronic their system is cool and very useful for some people but it messed me and my body right up, for the past 3 years that mode has been turned off and I switched back to the dexcom g6 Can't wait for Control Iq
Very informative! I've had the 670g for a long time and just switched to dexcom. I am almost convinced to get the tslim. I also had all the issues you mentioned with the 670g. I'm glad to see the improvement in your numbers with the tslim. Thanks for the video!
I am trying to get the t slim. Right now I am on Dexcom and a Medtronic pump. I have had the pump replaced twice now because the belt clip cracks the housings. The clip sucks so bad I literally broke 3 in a week. Now I just put it in my pocket. My warranty is finally up but my insurance won’t cover another for another year which makes no sense. But my doctor are pushing for it anyway. Really hoping it passes soon
This was a huge reason I was able to upgrade early. My 670G still had 18 months warranty on it, but I had non stop issues with them. I went through 8 pumps in 2 years and at no fault of mine. Cracked backs, broken clips, cracked buttons, critical pump errors and non stop alarms. Take pictures and keep a log of any and ALL issues you have with your 670G. If you warranty is up and your 670G becomes "Broken" Hint hint your insurance is supposed to upgrade you. There are ways to get the TSlim. Find a local Tandem rep if possible. Have your Endo write a Letter of recommendation and a letter of necessity to your insurance. These are 2 different letters. The letter of recommendation is a personalized letter about you. How you already have the G6 and it connects with the TSlim and how they feel it would benefit you and so on. The letter of necessity is a letter asking your insurance to pay for the upgrade and that you NEED it. Keep fighting, I did for 7 months and I finally got my TSlim 100% paid for. Mine was hard because I still had 18 months on my warranty but had about 40 pictures and logs of issues. I will tell you that the TSlim with the G6 is an absolute game changer. You will be in love with it. I sure am. My blood sugars have never been better. In the 1st 2 months I went from a 8.6 A1C to a 7.2. Keep pushing, keep bugging, make calls, call Tandem, call your Endo and call your insurance. Tell them all your issues with the 670G, let them know you are on the G6 and it goes with the TSlim. I hope this helps you. The TSlim lets you sleep at night, no stupid alarms, no kicking you out of Automode. Its sooo nice. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Best of luck and I hope you can get yourself a TSlim!
Do you recommend someone switching to tslim with arthritis and low vision? My mom has been on 630 and dexcom for years and is able to get a new pump. Her educator thinks she should stay with Medtronic since it has physical buttons and try switching to their cgm. Her endo leans towards the tslim and dexcom. We’ve been trying to decide for months. Ugh she’s gonna be stuck for 5 years (Medicare) with whatever pump she decides so don’t know what to do
Hi. I’ve been on Medtronic’s insulin pump(currently on the 670G) since 1998. Type 1 diabetic since 1985. I have a new Endocrinologist that prefers the Dexcom/Tslim combo. It’s been prescribed and approve by my insurance. I’m excited about it but my concern is that connector piece that I see on the tubing. Is that bothersome? Any issues with it?
That was actually one of my worries too. But no, it's not in the way at all. I don't even notice it at all. Congrats on the new pump. You will be amazed just how awesome the Dex and TSlim are. You can also pair the Dexcom to a watch to see your numbers.
Hey man, great video. Just curious about the Dexcom sensor... I found out the hard way that I'm allergic to gold filament from the Medtronic sensors so I never use them. I'm considering the jump to Tandem but wondered if the Dexcom sensor has the gold filament in it? Thanks in advance!
It does not. It's completely different. Uses a white plastic. I know exactly what you're talking about and they are completely different. I highly recommend the TSlim and G6 together. It's a absolute game changer. Hope this helps. Best of luck and thanks for stopping by.
Hi Steven, Great video comparison, very helpful! Couple of questions for you: Have you ever had issues with the screen cracking on the Tandem TSlim pump? If so, Do you know if cracked screens are covered by insurance or the manufacturers warranty? Where did you buy your belt clip cases from? Thanks,
Great questions. The screen is actually very strong. They also sell screen protectors. The screen and or anything on the pump is covered for 4 years. So no matter what you do to the pump it's fully covered for 4 entire years. If on Medicare or Medicaid (Government/State insurance) you're covered for 5 years. Pump case/belt clip is sold by Type 1 Tactical and I highly recommend them.
You are 100% correct there. Unfortunately 4 years ago when I was put on the 670G I was not informed of the TSlim and G6. My new Endo at the time was all about Medtronic. After seeing him for some time it came to light that he was taking kick backs from a Rep. He was not giving patients options. In my case he would get very upset when I found out about the TSlim. Long story short, I fought for 8 months. Got the G6 and TSlim and he is no longer there. I have a much better Endo now. I couldn't be happier with the G6 and TSlim. Its absolutely amazing! Thanks for stopping by!
Interesting to see this comparison. I wish I had done a lot of comparing before I was finally eligible for the upgrade to the minimed 670. My current insurance does not support any CGMs so I have to consider paying retail price if I want to utilize the closed-loop system. I was worried about switching to an entirely new system after having a paradigm for 16 yrs, so I was focused on getting their system, not paying attention to Tandem creating another closed-loop option via Dexcom. I had a Dexcom 5 a few years ago when I had better coverage - I wish Medtronic had been able to partner with them since they already had such great CGM technology going. Did you decide to pay full retail for the Tandem system? I know that no insurances will pay the thousands of dollars for a new pump if your current one isn’t out of warranty- unless you got the 670 the day it came out or something ! (Not trying to pry, just surprised you can have both - I unfortunately got a new paradigm 5-something not too long before closed-loop debuted) I believe all people with 670’s are able to easily get a 680; have to read the article from them closely - if they just replace it, will you get one to try it? There are additional features beyond just the Bluetooth thing - all I remember is you can set your target BG at 100 now. Anyways this is way too long. I appreciate this & also your vid on extending Medtronic sensors as the price currently is a deterrent. I was able to do the same trick with the Dexcom 5 and don’t know if you’ve tried it with the 6. Also currently considering the Libre as an option as it costs less (but isn’t as good) - don’t know if you’ve ever considered giving it a whirl just to put out a video on it and its accuracy. Have a good one!
I actually documented all the issues I've had with with my 670G including 8 pump replacements for failures. It did take almost 8 months but I was finally approved for the TSlim after my Doc wrote a letter of necessity and a letter of recommendation.
@@Moyersteven1 I have replaced my 670g three times now in 17 months. Bought it brand new. I’m done with Medtronic. I had to go two days without the pump because usps doesn’t pick up on Saturday and they refused to send it Fed x. Medtronic is not the company it once was. Even though they know the 670g had all of these issues they don’t care. Moving to TSlim. Thanks so much!!
My 670g just went out of warranty. I’m in the process of deciding between a 770g and the Tandem Slim x2. Unlike many people commenting here, I’ve had relatively few issues with the 670g. I’ve had excellent control (A1c always below 7, and usually between 6.1 and 6.5). Would you still recommend the Tandem even though I have been relatively happy with the 670g? Thanks.
YES, I would still recommend the G6 and TSlim. There isn't a huge difference between the 670G and 770G. They are still using the exact same sensors. Me switching has been absolutely AMAZING. I wouldn't go back if everything was 100% free. With TSlim and G6 you do have a trial period. If you don't like them you can always return with no questions asked. But highly unlikely that you would. The G6 and TSlim is so far ahead of Medtronic.
I am sort of like you. The 670G has worked relatively well for me for 3.75 years. A1c in the 5s and low 6s the whole time. But it alarms all the time. It is not aggressive at all. My blood sugar always seems to be rising with it. Never ever flat steady. And the CGM is awfully inaccurate. I use auto mode and give myself manual corrections, boluses, all the time to keep blood sugar under control. Not a good solution. I also test with a blood sugar meter about 10 times per 24 hour period. Three more months and I am gone.
@@russellseaton2014 I switched from the 670g to the Tslim and G6 a few weeks ago. I’m still getting used to the Tandem. It has its own idiosyncrasies, but the CGM is MUCH better (very accurate, and it doesn’t require calibration). So far, the Tslim tends to push my BG too low fairly often, but like I said, I’m still getting used to it. My BG levels are already more consistent, and I think as I get more experience, things will be even better. I’m happy with my decision to switch.
Great review! Just got my T Slim today! So happy to hopefully get some sleep in the future now that I'm done with my medtronic 670g! Thank you for easing my concerns about the pump and sensor switch!! Can't wait!!
Australian T1D, 16 years, We only recently received this technology here so I'm glad I found this as you've clearly had time to figure out the pros and cons... I think I'll be going Tandem
Great comparison! I’ve got the Medtronic 670, liked the pump but the sensors were terrible! I’ve had three of the Medtronic pumps! Pretty sure my next pump will been a T slim! Don’t like the looks of Hooking the pump up to the quick set! But I’m sure once you get use to it it’s probably no big deal! Appears to me the T slim is much more advanced!
