I wanted one of these SO badly when they were new. The local Radio Shack had a demo model. I once saw a used, working one for cheap something like 10 or 15 years ago and I still regret not buying it. It was gone when I went back.
Thanks, will check the 0-modem bit. I found that hooking up serial when using battery power can make the machine freeze until you pull the batteries. I don't use the terminal on Mac, but the built in serial tool of the Arduino IDE, or Processing, with the later you can actually program something around the serial communication, like a file transfer tool.
I always thought those things were so cool, but couldn't afford one when they were current. I was recently thinking of trying to make something similar with a Rasberry Pi and small ultrawide display that's got a similar screensize to the model 100. Would be nice to start with a non working one of these rather than trying to 3D print a custom case.
