Another reason everyone who like Tangerine Dream should own Optical Race. I can play this song over and over again. Such an amazing yet severely under rated album.

Something I've just thought of whilst watching this video again (muliple times again lol)... Fella on the video is going through Windows Media Player visualisations.... I was always a fan of the Ocean Mist, and I only used that, as the silly buggers didn't allow a full wide screen of the bars.... (was born in 71, so grew up in the 80's where Green and Red/sometimes Green, Amber and Red LED bars would be in place to visualise the music say, like my dads old full Technics 'New Class A' stacked system (turntable, tuner, graphic, twin tape, cd, Amp - big ass stack! haha), that I used to sit next to on a Sunday afternon with tape on Pause/Record, with finger hovering the pause button, waiting for that perfect time the Radio announcer would shut the F up (or before he jumped in at the end of the track being played).......... Ahem.... cough cough... Or did i? 🤔😏😉😉😉😎🇬🇧
When I found this 'New' album on the shelves of my local W.H.Smiths in Slough (haha Yeah, THAT Slough), I was already a Tangerine Dream, JMJ, Mark Shreeve and others follower of fine Electronic/Synthesised music (nowadays classed as EDM lol).... On first listening, this was one of the tracks that stood out to me the most on this cassette (later the CD) was bought for better quality, this and Cat Scan, well.. BLEW MY MIND INTO A DIFFERENT HAIRDO !!! For a more 'modern' TD (back then), this was an excellently composed and performed album. I mean, White Eagle, Song Of the Whale Pts 1&2, 29 Palms, Mojave Plane, just were some of the damn fine pieces (if you love White Eagle, look for the 'Live 2016' version with the video of timelapse wide shots of mountains, the night sky with clear stars/our Milky way galaxy - though, i WILL add.... Whoever uploaded it, just tweaked it with a tad too much treble/high end, so, adjust accordingly. STILL a fantastic modern version done by the band)...
Do you also like/love - Love On A Real Train and Poland Pt1?? What about, beautifully combined, absolutely faithful to the originals, creating sounds as though Edgar and co did themselves, and making a sheer 12 minute long mix of... Quite frankly sheer bliss? I'm pretty sure, your ears will thank me for putting you onto a guy called Simon who did this (following link). Note, GOOD quality/balanced (not bass heavy - looking at you 'Beats') headphones, or a well set up sound system in your Car/Home etc... I just got this on vinyl after years of passing it by in used record bins. I just figured it wouldn’t be too good because it was ‘later period’ Tangerine Dream. All I can say now is that I’m loving it. Great compositions, plus the sound quality is superb.

Hadn't heard this in a good 20 years 'cause I was sort of disillusioned with the band.. with the path they were travelling . After '93 stopped listening completely . Was distrought to hear of Edgars passing and bought his auto biography ' Force Majeure ' .. which is a massive book . The man was a genius that did not suffer fools and the book lays bare all the inner workings of TD . I'd put on the appropriare disc for album for the chapter being talked about . Anyway ... highly recommended .. After hearing this song for the 1st time in years , I can't seem to get it out of my head ... much like ' Mothers of Rain ' . This was a stellar debut for Tangerine Dream on Peter Baumanns ' Private Music ' label ... they'd go on to record 2 more discs and a soundtrack for ' Miracle Mile ' .
In an interview with Edgar Froese in 1992 a lady asked " What makes Tangerine Dream so popular ? Do they have a secret recipe ? " Edgars dry response was " Well , if we did we certainly wouldn't talk about it " haha Edgar was quite known for his dry wit and sarcasm and nevertheless he was a sweetheart and quite a gentleman .
I agree since it's one of my favorites. I think TD fans should also own the Virgin albums as well as "Poland" "Le Parc" and "Underwater Sunlight." Those are among the other TD stuff I wanna upload. It just that I've been busy doing other stuff at the moment. I don't know how soon it'll be before I finally get a chance to upload them. And there's a heck-ov-a-lot-ov OTHER stuff I wanna upload as well.
My introduction to TD was "Rubycon". It was from a bunch of 8-track tapes we got from a flea market. When I noticed the synth sounds and strange music and stuff, that's when I knew I wanted to check out their other albums.

Yeahhh, i think the same....in fact, when i listened for the first time that genesis song, i really believed that it was an alternative version of this..when i was child..puff
I think there might be a little similarity with "Watcher of the skies ", but this is much better. And i do not believe that TD would ever steal ideas from others because they were (and are) creative enough to make their own.
1988 for me. Starplex Ampitheatre. Best part? Free!!!!!! Met Edgar, Paul & Ralf backstage without even having a pass. Easily one of the top 5 days in my life.
I am in Marrakech right now, and I'm happy to say I saw TD (RIP, Edgar Froese 2015), Michael Rother and (Dieter) Moebius (RIP 2015), togeher with director William Friedkin (and his elderly father...) in concert (playing an extended version of 'The Sorcerer') @ Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark in April last year, my only 3rd TD gig in 25 years (which is too bad for a fan of 38 years, but it was actually their first in Scandinavia...ever!). I'd rather listen to this music forever than pretty much any modern EDM dance floor bullshit. True soul in these tunes, and a deceptively deep level of programming given the "light touch" with the synth instrumentation.
I would agree. Some artists imitate that kind of beat, which is why they sound so much the same. Besides Tangerine Dream, I would listen to Vangelis, Synergy, Jean-Michel Jarre, Steve Roach, Michael Stearns, Jonn Serrie, Geodesium... Gee, I think I'll stop here before I go to far.
I love all of the artists that you mentioned! Also put Michael Hoenig and Klaus Schulze on that list. Hoenig's "Departure From the Northern Wasteland" is awesome. I just picked up that Berlin School classic on vinyl for cheap. I grew up in the 1980s with Jan Hammer and New Wave, I kinda slept on all of these artists until now. In the 1990s I was into the ambient and IDM culture, but I find that I am going back to the 1970s and 1980s era of experimentation most of all.
Also, it's funny how the contemporary Synthwave genre (which I love) sounds so much like these classic albums by TD from the actual 1980s. Everything "old" is new again.
