I love how the synth blends seamlessly with the guitar lead in.

I am always so amazed at the transition from Edgar's guitar to Johannes' synth. Its as though it is one.

I like to imagine I was there... transfixed among the packed-out crowd of patchouli-reeking Rush fans, hippies, intellects and heathens... as thick clouds of high-quality weed drifted across the auditorium, most appropriately ....for this was a one-off spectacle and the moment for getting totally off our faces.... as we sat in awe of three legendary Germanic knob-twiddling geniuses. Those.... were very good times ⚡

I listen to this version as much as I can in order for me to practice on my analog synths and to be reminded of the "Old Berlin School" of music. Tangerine Dream made it possible for me to explore the world of music. Keep exploring.

in my childhood I always liked long instrumental music. then I heard Jarre at the age of 5... then I spent my teens inventing music in my head... and then in my late teens I re-discovered Jarre, Kraftwerk and TD, beginning with this album. After listening to Pergamon, that was it, the music I imagined did exist. I finally became a recording musician. this is a masterpiece!

In many ways Edgar was kind of like the David GIlmour of Germany - he had that european melodic tradition from a blues base and only played fast when he felt it served the song. He's one of my favorite guitarists due to his innate melodic sense, great tone, cultured vibrato and phrasing.

Nice track by TD, mezmorizing. Super rare as the original reel to reel recording no longer exists. As part of my TD collection I was sent the two CD recording of this live concert by the nice gentleman who once ran the Tangerine Tree website out of Germany. This was a televised German talk show hosted by two individuals who evidently invited TD to perform there, at the Palast Der Republic (hence the video cameras you see on stage in the pics) Incidentally, Johannes Schmoelling had just joined the band and this was perhaps his first live performance with TD. The two tracks on the album here were just part of the show, later named Pergamon and released as this album. Interesting story behind it. Cheers!

17:23 I swear it is this moment that I wait for throughout the whole song, the moment that makes the whole song worth it for some reason that little change, introducing back into the song that scary melodic minor sounding bottom note of chord

Simply awesome!!!

It was a televised concert hosted by a German talk show. That was the reason for the cameras you see in the pics. I have the two CD recording of the entire show from start to end, which is rather interesting to hear. Palast der Republik was not a half bad looking building. It was demolished because it was deemed an ostentatious symbol of the DDR (German Democratic Republic) after the fall of the wall in 1989 when east and west Berlin were (re)united. Also a lot of asbestos was found, so it had to go. Apparently 35,000 tonnes of steel from the building was used in the build of Burj Khalifa. Hopefully NOT the asbestos! ;-)
