I love how they wanted Tangled to be a traditional Disney film, and dodged it with 3D animation, a lack of a storybook to start the film, a princess with a realistic voice, a princess that doesn't grow up in royalty, falls for a wanted criminal, and has a chameleon for a sidekick. Then it gets completely overshadowed by Frozen.
Really happy they didn't use this one. I like how they opened it, it would have reminded me of Shrek if they started like this. Plus Eugene is a better story teller lol.
But if they did do this we wouldnt know that the baby was rapunzel and it would be more of a suprise and now we know it already at the beginning of the movie
I was touched to see little Rapunzel grab her brown lock at the well timed, "horrible and selfish people" quote. I saw it in the movie when she was explaining her hair to Flynn but I rings deeper with me to see her recognize 'proof' of people using her from a young age- instead later when she's explaining it to an outsider.
I don't understand why everyone is comparing this to Shrek? When originally Walt Disney used the similar book openings for his most recent films like Snow White, Pinochio.
I never thought of this until now, but... either Rapunzel is immune to the powers of her hair... or.. she should stay forever young.. meaning.. those what. 17, 19 years that went by in the tower she should remain.. forever young? ^^"

Yeah, that's true. Perhaps it's embedded within her DNA or something. I mean, there's no proof that her hair is the only means of using these powers. While cutting her hair off may have 'subdued' the powers, that doesn't mean it's inactive.
As evil as Gothel was, she's not wrong. The world is full of cruel and selfish people. If they ever found out about her hair they would most defiantly use it for themselves. It just so happens that she herself was one of those people.
I felt the same way until I realized that Gothel had to be a bit kind so She wouldn't run away sooner. I think it's cool how since she got the power from the flower that Gothel calls her various things like my little flower or my delicate flower throughout the movie, also I am so glad they had Flynn open up the movie.
Mother Gothel uses the flower by singing to it, which leaves it unharmed and thus potentially available for others to benefit. The king cuts the flower and feeds it to the queen, killing all of its magic and the possibility of helping so many people along with it. And they call Mother Gothel selfish?
jacoblgames It was known that the flower had healing powers, which means that people must have already used it in the past. The fact that the King and Queen found it intact, should have made it obvious to them that cutting it was not a requirement to harvest its power.
Marcos Beni How could they possibly have known that singing would activate its power? As far as we're shown, only Mother Gothel knew the song, and Rapunzel since MG sung it every day.
jacoblgames They didn't know about the singing, but they knew that there were other ways that did not require cutting the flower for the reasons I already stated.
I like how this opening mirrors the traditional Disney animation of Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, with the storybook opening in the beginning.
@@Givemepeacealone Shrek was a literal fuck you to Disney. It was produced by Katzenberg who was Chairman at Walt Disney Studios and had a bitter falling out with then CEO Michael Eisner. Katzenberg hated his ass so much that when production started he wanted Shrek to be the antithesis of Disney fairy tale movies. He even had Lord Farquaad designed to look a little like Michael Eisner. And one of them called the other a midget so thus Farquaad was made short.
With the new, released version of this scene, they really managed to use their animation and skills at it's best. the part where the flower bloomed was quite beautiful.(although it was weird to listen to a man's voice that sound like it would fit into a role of a comic relief character) Thank you for always trying Disney and thank you for uploading TheFashionStar101
+Medbh O'Shea I'm certain Mother Gothel was wary of this. in the finished product where she cuts one of Repunzel's locks, she witnessed the magic fade. And therefore, does her best to maintain every lock of hair without tangle or snare. The castle she is locked in does have an abnormal lack of sharp ends. But likely so Gothel taught Repunzel to value her hair and never to cut it. And even likely threatened her with punishment if done.
Rapunzel knew what would happen if her hair got cut and she figured that was why she was kept in the castle, because people would either use her or cut it themselves. She showed Flynn after they escaped the dam flood where Gothel had cut her hair as a baby.
So Gothel lived with Rapunzel when she was a child... well, that's logical, I suppose... in the original story, the witch actually closes Rapunzel in a tower just when she is a young woman...

It´s pretty, but, as IrisG said, too much like Shrek - and also like Snow White, Cinderella and other old Disney. The beginning of Tangled, with the sun drop creating the flower, is much more beautiful.
Anybody think it would've been more effective to have this plot point in the middle of the movie, or at the end, so both we and Rapunzel are in suspense for an explanation? Our knowing that she's the princess from the get go is boring and kind of ruins her revelation.
I wished they had used this opening instead. The problem with the final one is one of the problems with the movie as a whole. It's self-awareness starts feeling too much like Emperor's New Groove at times. That would be fine if Mark Dindal was the director, but he was not involved with this movie. Personally, I would have opened up the movie with one of Mother Gothel's fanciful retellings of the night that she and Rapunzel had to flee their home from the wicked, horrible people that tried to take Rapunzel away.
I heard that the reason Pixar stopped giving out the details of their movies before release was because Dreamworks always "coincidentally" released movies with similar themes at the same time.
Shrek's entire existence is a parody of Disney, mostly it's Princess and Fairy Tale films. This actually started a rivalry between Dreamworks and Disney, well Disney Pixar anyway. Starting with Shrek, the war began. Pixar released 'Finding Nemo', Dreamworks did 'Shark Tale' 'The Wild' vs 'Madagascar' 'Monsters inc.' vs 'Monsters vs Aliens' 'Bug's Life' vs. 'Antz' 'Brave' vs 'How To Train Your Dragon' Really makes you think, doesn't it? :)
They didn't know how to use it the way Gothel did. She knew that she could keep using it it it was kept alive, but all they had to go on was the legend.
Mother Gothel is the most confusing Disney villain! She tries to just take the hair and leave the baby first, and only when that doesn't work she takes the baby. It always struck me that she never really wanted to steal Rapunzel in the first place!
Ya that's what I was thinking I think she thought that Cutting her hair wouldn't lose it's power and wouldn't turn brown but when she cut it lost it's power and turned brown so she realized that of you ever cut her hair it loses its ability to heal sick,injurd and turns brown so she wanted to be young 100 years so she kidnapped Rapunzel and kept her in a tower for 18 years and has been lying to rapunzel about how the world is dangerous
But I Think she didn't plan to kidnap rapunzel I think she was planning to break in to the castle and snip a little of her hair and goes back to her tower
i wish they have keep the scenee where rapunzele's mom kisses her forehead, because it would have been a nice paralel to mother gothel, who kissed rapunzel hair in the movie
@ergonomicify i like it cuz it explains why the flower is magical in the first place, and it corresponds with the end of the movie (how Rapunzel cried a magic teardrop and heals Eugene)
even though mother gothel was evil and stole her and used her, ect. I kinda feel bad for her, because she did raise Rapunzel... Like, she seemed to at least care about her when it didn't cause trouble for herself, and I kinda feel like they should have made her meaner so I wouldn't like her character so much...
well obviously,it's basically said so as well in the actual movie that Gothal just wanted her hair,because that's the only thing can make her younger..you can also tell by the way she acts towards Rupunzel..
They should have gave her a sip to heal her then put the rest in a bottle maybe gothle would have stolen that so the king and queen had a tiny more time with there baby
Mother Gothel should have just told the soldiers she had it, then gone to the palace with them, made the queen hold the flower and she could sing the healing song and heal the queen, and everyone would live and Rapunzel would be born with brown, non-magical hair and she would still be nice and stuff.
THE MEEP QUEEN The older we get, the sicker we can get, she was being healed from the infirmities that age was giving her. She also recited a spell that specifically asked to reverse the aging process, so that's exactly what she got.
Farfetched and random? Sort of like a talking mirror, a spindle that can kill you, a neglectful fairy godmother, a random and spiteful enchantress, a magic lamp, or a fat octopus who collects souls? Every Disney movie needs a bit of farfetched and random magic to get the story rolling.
hmmm i do like 'How To Train Your Dragon' it was good but...yeah it was nothing too special. It was kind of predictable and weak in some places, to be fair though i've only seen it once. It's up to you, you'd probably enjoy it but there's no rush :)
