Quick and delicious, this Beef and Egg Rice Bowl called Tanindon is comfort food at its best. With thinly sliced beef and eggs cooked in a savory-sweet sauce and served over steamed rice, you’ll devour every bite! It’s a speedy meal that you can make in 20 minutes!

Ingredients:
½ onion (142 g, 5 oz for 2 servings)
2 large eggs (50 g each w/o shell)
½ lb thinly sliced beef (chuck or rib eye) (or slice your own meat)
1 green onion/scallion
2 servings cooked Japanese short-grain rice (1½ rice cooker cups (180 ml x 1.5 = 270 ml) yields roughly 2 servings (3 US cups) for donburi; see how to cook short-grain rice with a rice cooker, a pot over the stove, an Instant Pot, or a donabe)
For the Seasonings
½ cup dashi (Japanese soup stock; click to learn more)
3 Tbsp soy sauce
2 Tbsp sake
2 Tbsp mirin
1 Tbsp sugar
For the Garnish
pickled red ginger (beni shoga or kizami beni shoga)
shichimi togarashi (Japanese seven spice) (optional; sprinkle for a spicy kick)

Tanindon utilizes beef cooked with beaten eggs, similar to Oyakodon (Chicken cooked with beatb eggs). Gyudon doesn't use beaten eggs.

The classic gyudon (basic form) does not include any type of eggs. When you add the eggs, the name of the food changes from Gyudon to Tanindon or Gyutoji (it comes from tamagotoji) or Gyudon with Onsen Tamago, etc... I know it's a bit complicated. I explain about it on my website. Tanin means strangers in Japanese. Since beef and egg is not same family, it's called Tanindon. Chicken and egg bowl is called Oyakodon because chicken (parent/"oya") and egg (child/"ko"). :)

Thank you for your kind words and we're very sorry. We made some long videos recently, and they are coming soon. It's very difficult for creators to make different shape/length videos for different social platforms. We need to make vertical short videos for RU-vid Shorts and Instagram Reels (worth making these videos right now) and long, landscape videos JUST FOR RU-vid, and we have to edit the videos to create different sizes for Pinterest and Facebook. Unfortunately, our views for the long videos are so little that we feel very discouraged to spend hours to create those long videos (and editing takes more!). We also photoshoot the cooking steps for our website, so that means we have to make the same dish 3 times if we create a long RU-vid video. We haven't given up our channel and we hope to continue, but we have been trying to figure out how we do this without feeling discouraged. :)

Eggs! That's the main difference between them. Tanindon is basically a beef version of oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl)
