The best tank mates for the Green Severum Cichlid are South American cichlid fish. These are the best choice because they are similar mannered and personalities. If you put the green saffron in an aquarium with a more aggressive Cichlid it will most likely end in death. Cichlids are extremely aggressive by nature and you need to be careful when putting them with other fish.

The Green Severum is one of the most docile cichlids in the hobby. Most other cichlids are a lot more aggressive especially when it comes to breeding and pairing up with a mate.
The best aquarium setup for a Green Severum cichlid community tank is a 125 gallon aquarium. Try to replicate the Amazon river using different woods and allow that wood to leach dark tannins into the water. You can then add other fish to create a Community Aquarium that takes after a natural Amazon river set up.

These guys gotta be one the best cichlids. They get big but aren’t aggressive but can hang with some of the bigger more aggressive cichlids. Absolute great fish

Sweet! Never kept a severum. We keep pretty much to Lake Tanganyika cichlids, but these have awesome color.

Hey Chris, love your clips and Severums. Have Rotkeil, Red Tiger, Orange shoulder, Red Spotted , Green and Turquoise. All pretty laid back except my Rotkeil. Tried to take out my Green Sev and Feather fin. Ended up putting him in my 125 with a Salvini and a Green Terror. Now he is not so tough. haha.

I have a 6 inch gold Severum , 3 koi Ángels and a 4 inch Acara. Going to add 2 more Severums a red spotted and a green. I think the greens are really nice. My tank is a 110 - 60 inch

I have a green and gold in a 75. I green grew faster and is almost two inches. The gold is about an inch and a half. The green chases the other but usually only after feeding. There is some tearing on the gold's right fin but it still swims okay. I've broken up line of sight a bit which helped. Any suggestions?

Just setting up a 75 gallon tank (my largest yet!) with sand substrate. Thinking of a specimen gold severum with angels or geophagus (2 or 3). No problems with this?

I have 6 severums in a 6 foot 125. 2 red shoulders, 2 green, 2 gold. They are with angels, colubian tetras, black and white skirt tetras and corydoras. Would love to show you a video of my tank Chris.

i got one because i wanted a discus and my local fish shop said that discus is too hard to keep so they recommended the green severum

How are they with blood parrots? I’ve been considering Severums for awhile now. My main tank is coming up to five years. All of my fish I got as juveniles within the same time period so I don’t know how they would do with another fish?

so i have 1 green and he hates everyone but one tiger barb i had like 10 barbs and he bullied them till they all died but 1 then i got like 7 more same thing and anything he can fit in his mouth tetras... etc one thing my 55 had to go so he is in a 36 bow front any ideals hes on the smaller size hes about 7 years old and 5 or 6 inches wanted something else in there besides 1 green and 1 barb

Can you keep them with Blue dolphin cichlids? Yes I know Blue dolphin is African. South American and African cichlids can successfully be kept together.

I don't get people saying these fish are so peaceful. Mine is an asshole! He kept attacking my blood red fish until he died. Same for one of my blue acara. I love my Popeye
