I cannot Believe you have come so far with this Tank. The chap that deactivated its gun in the UK is a friend of mine. He told me the tank was in a right state., Almost a relic. I was offered this tank to buy and turned it down due to its condition. WELL DONE. Pure skill and dedication. I am amazed. We have been watching the progress and you guys have excelled in excellence and skill. best wishes from the UK.
Well, you may have turned the offer down, but you know its in good hands now and isnt rotting away in the rain and if you didnt turn the offer down, 693.000 people would not have seen this monster come back to life
This is absolutely one of my favourite RU-vid channels now. as soon as my girlfriend heard someone speaking Dutch she says, “are you watching those mad tank guys again?”
I wonder if they translate the bits of English spoken by Milo and Dirk into Dutch for their local viewers. I love it when Milo says "Very Nice", "Great success", and other things. He's got good understanding of how English works, he's good, Dirk is learning well.
@@davekauffman8727 Pretty sure Emile does the sub titles himself, there are 2 ways of doing subtitled on RU-vid, the automatic ones, or you can also create a text file and do them manually, in one of his early videos he says why he talks in Dutch and then translates it to English, I think he said it just flows better for him it being his native language, it was something like that anyway, the video is probably still there if you search for it, he also said in another video that doing the subtitles is the really time consuming thing for him.
@@davekauffman8727 Honestly, there is no need to translate to dutch for us. Since everyone from the netherlands is taught english at a young age in school. Maybe only troublesome for the people of 60 years and older.
Wow, in 24 minutes you have located the leak, taken out the engine, replaced the water pump, fitted it all again and tested. That must be a new record. :-D
Watching your work on this tank gives me a whole lot of respect for the mechanics that serviced the thousands of tanks in the field in wartime conditions in WWII.
The Iraqis got the job done too. They were just soldiers doing their job no different to our boys. Would like to think they are safe but I know its unlikely they are.
Yeah, but you wouldn't be running these level of repairs and troubleshooting in the field. In the field, you simply replace the engine and send the engine or maybe even the tank back to field workshop in the rear echelon. But yeah, I do remember reading there was a lot of tanks breaking down during the march in World War 2.
This is one of the most thorough and beautiful restorations of a Soviet/Chinese tank I have seen done in the west. Often they dont get attention. Good work!
How bad can it be? I mean … how large is the fuel tank of this tank? 300L? Your average European probably burns that much commuting to work in three months.
well, there was a possibility for him to face those tanks in full armor back in his youth if sh#t would hit the fan... so he's just happy just to joy ride this machine of death, insteard of facing it. Things went good=)
Considering what it is that you started with, an old rusted piece of machinery, you’re the be commended for bringing this thing as far as you’ve gotten it. It shows your skill, your knowledge, your mechanical ability. You guys get an “A” for the day!
Whelp looks like I was right, they had water in the oil which was causing all that white smoke. The water was causing it to blow past the rings and burn/get spewed out the exhaust. She is looking good now, no longer a rolling smoke bomb. The color of the smoke looks good for the most part, I mean you were running her good and hard so not too surprised she was belching out some black smoke. It might clear up some more once she breaks in But it still sounds like it is running a bit rough though, more noticeable when it is idle or low power so might be why she is still smoking as much as she is.
As a Yank across the pond, it's a bit hard to follow unless I stop the video to read the English subtitles. Not that I can't read that fast, but while I'm reading, I'm not watching so much. I am amazed how these guys go about figuring out how to fix an old tank that initially didn't run and had so many significant problems. In my non-mechanical opinion these are near geniuses in fixing this tank and others as I this is the only video I've seen of them. Here in the USA, we have good old boys who find cars and trucks that have been sitting in barns and fields for 20-70 years and try to get the engines to run again. Most often the bodies can't be salvaged, but parts from less decayed body parts can be used to restore the old cars and trucks. Not nearly as complicated or as difficulty to disassemble as the tank, but similarly amazing to see how they get those old engines running again. Ditto here in the USA for the very few companies who are restoring pre-WW I, WW II, and other historically important aircraft...many back to flying condition
He's lucky he has good neighbors, especially the one who lets him drive on the field. I guess if the farmer needed anything built or welded, he'll get Milo to do it..
This is the video we've all been waiting for! My heart always sinks at having to dismantle something again, but you solved that water / oil leak very calmly. I also love the random bits of English spoken in this video.
This is awesome! You guys have done a great job. I'm so glad you took the time to methodically diagnose the problem, and took the engine back out to fix the problem. And three videos this week?!?!?! You're making my life so much better. It was so cool to see the flames shooting out of the exhaust, and it sounds like it's running much better. Cheers!
Enjoying your Tank Refurbishment Videos ! For some viewers that may not know; the hole in the water pump is called a ' weep hole' and when water is seen coming out of it then that is a sign that the water pump or its seal is bad.
Ребята вы молодцы за ваше стремление, терпение и решимость, энтузиазм и за вашу искреннюю радость от того что вы сделали. Похвально. С уважением с Южного Урала.
What an achievement to get this far from where you were. I love seeing the clever ideas you come up with and how you solve problems. It must be such a reward to finally drive it! Bravo.
I was late to this project, binge watched the whole lot from start to finish and now I'm all caught up. Awesome series though, you guys are great. Subtitles are a lifesaver
I didn't even realized how much work they did on this when watching the original Dutch vlog. That they actually drained all the oil then pressurized the engine cooling system too see if water would get to the oil sump is an amazing idea and also a lot of hard work to diagnose the problem.
Great work guys, your diagnostic skills and thought processes are a joy to watch. So pleased that all your hard work has paid off and you can now enjoy driving the tank with no problems.
A guess as to why the engine smokes so much when cold and under hard revving or acceleration, it can be heard in the sound of the engine that not all cylinders participate all the time. That, and there could be an oil being consumed, I think you will figure it out :-)
When it's in throttle and warm the smoke is good and black; a new motor needs to be run hard to seat the piston rings. It was running much cleaner after this drive.
I think, they were tolking in one of werkplatz vlog, that they think, valves aren't sealed good on the valve rod. I think to my self, it's true ande also valves don't fit at all in cilinder head. You can see flames going outside the exhaust. It is good work, when they restored it from a total crash, but still needs to work on it, if it should work right.
I am a bicycle mechanic and fix what I can, on my car. I love your videos. 1) Your tank is now named Old Smoky Hydrocarbons. 2) The two of you are having more fun than I am watching the video. 3) How many times have you pulled the engine out? The smart way to restore that tank would have been to strip it down to every nut and bolt and build it back up. Disassemble the engine, transmission and coolant system; check every bearing, every seal, mic the cylinder walls, the pistons, install new rings, confirm the timing, etc. Nothing but bench work. But what fun is that? And who wants to watch an old, fat mechanic with no sense of humor overhaul a diesel engine? I prefer watching the two of you zipping up and down your neighbors field. I have to admit that I am learning more about the mechanical operations of tanks than I ever have by watching the Tank Museum at Bovington, overhauling their Matilda II. No one has ever taken a tank for a test ride with the turret off and allowed the viewer to watch the engine and linkage operating. Do you think you could run a compressed air line down the barrel of the cannon and fire confetti out the barrel? Flower pedals are biodegradable.
zfreak280 yes! black is better than white smoke, that means the engine is under load and can’t burn all the fuel, they can lean the mix out, find out what is making it not burn the fuel, or live with it since it’s natural for diesels to smoke a little when under load (it can be tuned out so that it won’t do that, thanks to modern technology)
On a positive note, it's good that you diagnosed a problem and fixed it before the engine terminally overheated through lack of coolant and water in the oil.
Amazing! the engineering is admirable - I think your enthusiasm is fantastic. I struggle keeping my 20 year old S3 Quattro running well. forty three cars later including Fords, Saabs, VW'S, and an over rated Porsche Have learned that the reliability prize goes to the Japanese car producers! Great videos! So interesting, well done!!!
It would be awesome to get an older Russian tank mechanic that knows the quirks and other details of that tank. That tank is awesome. I remember crawling through an old T55 that was capturing during Desert Storm and brought to the USA. Couldn’t believe how tiny the hatches were.
Loved the visit diesel injector shop. After your injector pump is reinstalled please check your compression in all cylinders. White smoke indicates unburned fuel, possibly a valve issue and a cyl has lost compression.
Hey Milo, if you had to do another T34 in the same condition how much fast do you think you could do it this time now you have all the tools and knowledge? Great video.
Geweldig mannen. De fouten worden een voor een opgelost. Hij rookt nu een behoorlijk stuk minder dan in het begin. Kan niet wachten op de volgende video. 👍👍👍
This video just showed up in my "recommended" feed yesterday. So glad it did. Have now watched every video from the tank restoration. Looking forward to the next one. Great work! :D
