Excellent video using that method! Thanks for the info. I'm always looking to expand my knowledge. And pay no attention to the tanning police. There are more than one or two ways to tan a hide.
When I use the solution, the very last step I do after breaking is cold smoking. It makes it smell nice, darkens the leather side, and deters bugs. Nothing worse than 2 or 3 years down the road, bugs start munching on your wall hanger.
i've honestly never thought of cold smoking the finished hide... i'm going to have to try it out, i agree about the bug factor after a while it can be a nightmare if it happens
Well whatever it does works just fine... I've done fur on and buckskin with it and it worked... I'm open to other suggestions on stuff to use... not like I'm married to the stuff lol
Look up Rittels EZ tan. Regardless of what you use you need to pickle it first. People may be happy with the results from that crappy orange bottle but when I see all the work some of you guys go through you might as well use the right thing.
I am going to give you some pointers on the tanning.I am just trying to help .I done a few before the leather start drying after the 12 16 hrs solution you got to start stretching you hide is a little work but is worst it then sand it and keep stretching. It will come out real nice .nice video .thanks
normally no... i've fopund it just easier to go straight from skinning and fleshing to the salt and getting thing going... if i have to wait, i rough skin, so there's still a decent ammount of fat n stuff on em. Seal them in a trippl layer freezer bag and freeze until i'm able to get to them.
