@@francescabosco7619 I'm sure you can find studies saying they're good, bad, and everything in between! I tend to go with the mindset that they're good in moderation.
Lily, your weekly videos keep me grounded in my relation to food, diets and health. And it doesn't hurt that your content is also both beautiful and funny! A true thank you for all the effort you put in
Just now starting this vid but I would LOVE if you could do a video on Zinc!! I'm doing a response video and had to do some research on Zinc and I actually didn't find much on it as a concern for a vegan diet (obviously because it isn't a concern lol). But I just thought I'd propose it to you because you seem to be good at researching and probably way better than me! Love your videos! - A fairly new subscriber ❤️
The only time I eat like a wakadoodle is when blueberry season comes out. Hello Litre of blueberries in 2 days. I love you very much. (I only get blueberries a few times during the season. The rest of the year it is frozen blueberries in much more modest quantity.
Every time I watch your video I miss Hawaii so much!! Thank you for bringing it back to me, right into my living room 🌸 🌺 Ok, will watch your video now - thank you for continuously educating us
Im not a vegan, but i enjoy your videos so much, i feel like you are a genuine vegan and you're not doing it as a fad, i like how you explain things, makes it easy for me to understand, and you make vegan food look so yummy! Ive implemented some of your foods you show in your videos in my diet 😊
That taro was so majestic! I would be honored to prepare that thing for dinner haha it's like a king of all tubers. I've never even seen one in real life probably cause I live in cold old Europe :( Thank you for making this series, Lil! I am looking forward to the next one!
The preponderance of research indicates you don't have to stop enjoying coffee, as it can be very good for us!! As always, the dose matters (1-2 cups a day is generally recommended) but sweeteners (natural and artificial) are what ought be avoided ♥️
Geez, Lily. How come everything that has all of these “anti nutrients” are all of my favorite things in life? 😩well, I guess the key, as always, is to just not eat them like a wack a doodle. 😂💖xx
According to Healthline online in 2019, “ACV has widely accepted astringent properties due to its high tannin content.” Does this mean apple cider vinegar can cause malabsorption of things like iron, zinc and calcium? Nobody talks about that side to it.
Hello! I have a question about iron absorption. So, you shouldn't mix iron with calcium as the calcium decreases the amount of iron you absorb. However, with Molasses for example, it is rich in both calcium and iron. Does this mean it isn't a good source for iron? Also, why are so many foods that are fortified with iron, are also fortified with calcium? When we are also told we shouldn't mix the two? Thanks!
I will certainly miss this anti-nutrient series, I've learned so much. Can you mention some more information about anti-nutrients in your next what-I-eat-in-a-day videos? I'm really interested in the ways you combine foods and drinks, like here, you drink the tea 1 year before a meal etc. I would like to see explanations behind your food choices... For example, explaining why you soak oats etc. Also, I would like to see ways to prepare vegetables without losing their nutritional content. Also, make a video about oils. Thank you!
Love all of your videos, specially the ones you show what I eat in a day. Makes me want to be even healthier and I don't feel like I need to buy lots of expensive products, do aesthetic procedures and etc.. I do get this feeling a lot watching other people on RU-vid. ✌❤
I don’t know how you don’t have more followers. I love your channel! Have you thought about getting shout outs from other channels that fall in line with yours
Totally awesome Lily. Thank you for sharing your brilliance and teaching skills. It takes a lot of craft and skill to be a vegan like you. Thanks again for sharing your amazing work. JP
i love your stuff lily! could you please do a video on carotenemia maybe? i notice my hands and soles have been getting more orange in the past few months and am wondering about that, lol :)
This is the first time that I have watched your RU-vid videos and I really enjoyed this episode! You have so many positive aspects in this video, where do I start? Oh, let me count thy ways... #1) You actually show us the various medical studies supporting what you say. Even though I don’t see a link to the studies or printouts, I am perfectly able and willing to pause and screenshot, to look up. Next, #2) I _LOVE_ _love_ _Love_ that you show us what you _actually_ eat. This really does help give many who are new to such style of diet (not a diet but the diet of a people or animal diet). A personal lifestyle rule of mine is that most things in life are okay in reasonable quantities, i.e. _MODERATION._ I will be browsing your other selection of life style videos. The future is ours! Cheers to your complete health!
Thank you so much for your feedback, Bella! I really appreciate the time you put into letting me know what you appreciated about this video so I can work to incorporate that more. ♥️
One question and one comment. So my ducks are eating acorns and their eggs have a dark brown yolk from the tannins. Do you think it’s ok to eat these eggs? Sounds like maybe just not going to get much nutrients from them. I’m on a Keto diet and while it does make you deficient in some minerals and you need to take good plant based supplements. It does wonders to your insulin resistance and controlling diabetes. All the carbohydrates in our foods is what makes people gain weight and have problems with cholesterol. If you take away the carbs, eat the fattier foods and lower your insulin resistance then your cholesterol goes down. I’ve seen this first hand.
Hi Lauren! Having an attitude like this is a great place to start. Simply understanding that you are a visitor/guest and being respectful of the places you visit (or choose not to visit out of respect) goes a long way. Approaching locals with kindness and returning their generosity and Aloha will go a long way, too. Accommodations are a bit tricky... The Airbnb industry is crippling the housing/rental market for locals, so as much as it pains me, staying in a traditional hotel, hostel (locally owned if possible), or with someone renting a single room in their home is preferable to Whole House vacation rentals. Some friends of mine who own Herbivores in Kona also rent a room/cabin on their property in Kona... might be a great fit if you can track down their listing! Also, plan to stock up on (or bring with you) plenty of Reef-Safe sunscreen! Mahalo for asking!
Wish you would have talked about raspberry leaf tannins. I heard they're really good for anemia/ iron. But I have gastritis and so it's hard to drink it.
Greetings Lily (and family)! First off, you look sooo great. This video's structure, emotion, and length is to die for 🤩. We'd all be better off if more RU-vidrs were like you 🙌. Moving on to what I'm actually inquiring about - The further I dive into nutrition science (and dabble philosophy - cause we all do that, right?😉) it becomes more apparent that maintaining one's health is simply a matter of understanding the human body enough to give it what it evolved having (i.e. a variety of whole plant foods, sleep, sunshine, movement, pleasure). In the past, you've hinted at human evolution and anthropology topics in multiple videos. Most notably, in your "Why I Gave Up FullyRaw" video a while back, you made it very clear that wild fruit would have been hard to obtain for early humans. You then used the reasoning that the historical expansion of human brain size was recorded after our discovery of fire, the consumption of cooked roots, and beans and whole grains thereafter. The saddening question I pose is: when, do you think, humans historical began to stray from their primal WFPB diet? What motivated this deadly shift? Thanks. Rock on✌️
Hey Lili, please make video about vitamin B, in detail. Thanks a lot. Btw I love your videos. I'm always waiting for new videos and right now I watch them
Love the antinutrients series! Something I've been loving eating lately because of the heat is cold black beans blended up with dates, a little cacao, vanilla, and a teeny bit of almond milk. I pop that in the freezer/fridge to cool it down and it's a cold creamy chocolatey fudgey treat. Reminds me of chocolate pudding in flavor but thicker. Its one of the ways I get myself to eat beans when I'm sweating my butt off and dont want some hot beans and rice hahah
Hello! I wanted to ask you if you could do a video on the books that have been influential in your learnings! I love reading and I think many of us would benefit from you sharing what you read:)
Although I don't do nutrition research, I want to thank you (as a scientist relying on human volunteer participants, myself) for promoting research participation!
Super informative...thx lily!! Funny that I would say 70% of the time I drink black tea it makes me vomit within the first minutes of drinking it. Maybe the tannins.....
Sherilyn Giordano listen to your body. It’s telling you something. That’s a little frightening 😰😖. Soy milk and avocados makes me gag sometimes, so I just removed them from my diet. Not worth it
Thanks so much for another great video! I love my cacao though 🙀🙀 and have about 1-2 TB a day in my daily date sweetened hot choc and/or smoothie, did you read anything about recommended amounts?
Is it possible to eat a WFPB diet if you can't eat legumes? Any type of beans or lentils makes me incredibly bloated, and I'm not talking "I couldn't wear a crop top" kinda bloated but "legit looking six months pregnant" bloated accompanied with a lot of discomfort and indigestion.
so would taking a multi enzyme+systemic enzymes supplement be a good idea if I have a really high Tannins diet? I crave cacao powder tea coffee kratom red vein all day. my diet is extremely high in tennis. I was think a emxyme supplement, multi mineral supplements, and MSM for mineral cellular exchange
Sucralose is in so many things these days, even semmingly natural foods and drinks, as well as most protein powders. I would like to hear your evaluation, and whether you regard it as okay or best avoided.
I was hanging out with friends having lunch and I said "don't you hate how red grapes and blueberries make your mouth go numb and give you a sore throat? They are so tasty" they looked at me like I had grown another head. Asked my Dr. She asked me about my reaction to wine and pomegranates. Same reaction, sometimes worse. It's the tannins.
Hi Lily💙 I’m so in love with your spirit and the message that you’re spreading💫 I’m plant-based chef and would so love to send you some yummy vegan oil free cheeses/sweets to enjoy, how could I do it?🤗 thank you, best wishes. Mariana🌿
Lilllehhh, I know you are probably still out because of the Earth Care issues in your local area, and I commend that! When you come back, would you make a video discussing your stance on mushrooms as food and medicine? Would be a very relevant topic right now. Thanks, and feel free to message or PM me if you'd like any links or subject prompts as I'm very connected to that world and care about it very much. I am curious because I am unaware of any of your videos where you may have addressed this food group. Thank you again for what you do on here!
Would you be interested in making a bare bones educational video of the history and colonization of Hawaii? You could add to your personal experience and opinion if you felt like it but mainly its purpose would be educational. Thank you!
Hey Lily I know you have videos on thyroid and adrenals mine do happen to be in a bad state from major stress an eating disorder (orthorexia). I’ve since then had chronic fatigue no energy orthorexia is far from my mind. But now I want to be healthy but I have no appetite I lost it and have to force myself to eat now. I want to get as much nutrition as possible do you have any advice? Thank you ❤️
Hi Tiffany... I'm working on a Thyroid health series, and since thyroid and adrenal health are so closely related, it will hopefully be helpful for your situation. That'll take a little while to come together, though, as some big stuff is happening on the big island right now and it'll be taking up a lot of my time. If you have zero natural appetite, you'll have to get yourself on a structured eating plan - 3+ meals per day to make sure you're getting the calories and nutrition you need. Eat at the same times every day. Your appetite will probably come around. Either way, it'd be smart to talk to a doctor about your lack of appetite and get cleared for any other underlying issues.
But I love having my coffee and (herbal) teas with meals! ☹ Guess I have to look into re-working my eating schedule. On another note, you've inspired me to try taro! My local supermarket sells it (or something like it, uninformatively labeled "yam"), but I never knew what to do with it. Onward to expanding my whole food horizons 🙂
On Keto. Found your series on plant anti nutrients , Very interesting. Thanks. But I’m not crazy being on keto. I consider animal -based diet as healthy.
