These were the first pair of new speakers I ever bought when I was 19 years old. Funny thing is I have just bought a pair the other day, 30 years later :D I also bought the rest of the system I used to use it with. Not got it all yet but looking forward to it, that system rocked (all aiwa and all entry level).

they are from second half of the 80´s ,have a pair with stands(that have the same marble efect on them on the feet of the stands) ,these ask for power from any amplifier,. two options of conecting them bi-wire or not ,thechante is there for it but sometimes there´s a litle oxidation and the conection between the high drivers and low ones isn´t made totally ,but they work good with a lot of amplifiers not for ,low watts amplifiers ,i´m using some real 70 watts r.m.s. per channel amplifier ,wich if nominal power are 120watts for cahnnel at 8ohms, those were very expensive the sensivity is not the best but i own speakers who have good sensivety but don´t have a third of the sound quality of these tannoy, keep releasing reviews great videos

Twitter mesh holds on magnet. Twitter is gold plated. Mid and bass is polypropilen. This speakers fits with older Nad amp (304).

The speakers reach 40Hz - more than enough bass with Naim Nait 3 amplifier . Still need to be pushed with the amplifier to deliver - above 60db . At low volume there is obviously no bass.

Top and bottom r connected with rod. So upper and lower plates are prestressed. Sixies are for vocal and/or acoustic music. If you r listenin drum&bass, sixies are not for you.

they were made with a particular set of specifications but not only for vocal or acustic music they have nice bass drivers who can reveal frequencies that are hard to find on others there were cheaper tannoys at the time more inclusive for all tastes, only cost a third of the price of the 605 ,there´s the 603 for less power amplifiers ,these ones can handle a lot of power ,if well placed in the room even better

A good friend of mine bought a pair of inexpensive Tannoys in 2000. I was very impressed with the sound. Great sound stage, excellent 3D sound. But the bass was limited. One afternoon we went out hunting for new speakers with better bass. After literally hours of auditioning all sorts of speakers, I told him, ya know... the Tannoys are very nice speakers. What do you think about a subwoofer? We then spent the next four hours listening to subwoofers. My friend is very picky. LOL. Finally settled on a nice Velodyne that went for $1,000. He has no regrets.

The mb quarts 590 mcs also sound perfect when i would put a sub between them, mayby that would solve the problem. Most speakers lack bass....

vintage stereo It's a matter of personal preference. A couple years ago I borrowed an Energy sub from a friend to hook up with my Focal speakers. It sounded good, but for me was too much. Besides, I was always messing with the crossover point.

@@vintagestereo it depends on the amplifier type, like the sb-f3 from technics that i have since 79 and have a great sound but conected to a 70´s amplifier ,with new amplifiers no matter how good they say they are, no bass ,well if i´m to be true they sound sterile but in 93 a pair of tweeters from technics cost what today is 450€ for those speakers ,underrated speakers, regards

what i was more happy about them was the bass definition

The official Tannoy release for these speakers states that they can be driven by amps with 10-90w. Do you really think my 40w amp will not be able to drive these in a regular sized living room? Cheers. www.hilberink.nl/tannoy2/tannoy_sixes_series.pdf

it depends how hard you play your music. 87 db needs often a bigger amp. if you play normal living room level the 40w volume knob will be I guess at 5/10 past 12.

@@vintagestereo it depends on the sensibility of the speakers (db) on previous to 79 any amplifier can power them if after 1979 it needs much more power but not that much and on the speaker says what amplifier you should use from the minimum to the maximum , i have a pioneer stereo receiver that in 74 it had 7w +7w but with modern speakers they can boost a lot of power with quality and volume knob before alf the scale ,don´t know if you notice the diference in amplifiers sound from the 70´s to after 1980 ,this regarding all brands ,this to do not talk about the phono stage on amplifiers ,it´s incredible how today that people are spending money on expensive turntables the phono stage from them are really bad ,one conects an old turntable and being used to listen to it for 40 years ,the sound on a new amplifier is ridiculous and then fortunes spent on high-end cartridges and stylus and pre-amplifiers when the problem is the phono input from new amplifiers, i bought in 97 a A-616mkII and in the brochure said that the phono stage was improved when changing to a A-656mkII that it was ofered to me the diference was incredible, but with a 78 SA-606 or 6700 it seems other world ,this with a technics turntable from 76 but a good one(SL-1000)with original stylus and cartridge, regards

maybe the amplifier doesn´t have the 40 watts required ,i see diferent amplifiers with the watts very high but measured on a diferent scale from what was standart in the past

I know that Tannoy is an English brand, but they're not so common in the United States. I've only seen them once before. In fact, the only other European brands that we ever really see in America are Bangin Oulufson (I hope I spelled that correctly), KEF, and Rega. The most of what we see are either American or Japanese.

it´s funny ,some great models from the 70´s only found them in the U.S. and tannoy with a size that one man can´t carry them ,and those were the less size model of that series

Modern speakers are inefficient and require lots of power because consumers demand small speakers. Getting big sound from small speakers requires amplifier power. Take Klipschorns. Huge speakers that will play with a flea watt triode tube amp.

i have a dutch friend that had magnats since the 70´s, only 5 years ago i remenber to look for them on-line but old or new they have a very good sound ,maybe better than new models from known brands that in the 90´s become one company and changed the production to China like kef and celestion when marshal cease to use celestion woofers on their speakers(maybe because of this)

Recommended amplifier for the 605 is 10 to 90 watt. So no big amplifier needed. www.hilberink.nl/tannoy2/tannoy_sixes_series.pdf I have the 603's and i like the sound of it. My other speakers are B&W DM630 and DM330i and also DM110i, Philips legend one, Modified Technics SB5000 , little Quadral's and some Mission speakers. I got my Tannoy 603's for 20 euro! lucky me.

I miss no bass in the 603's but some detail in the sound. www.hilberink.nl/tannoy/jpvanson/speakers.pdf
