18:09 as a paratrooper, that would totally work. I prefer to stow my chest rig in my MAWC (modular airborne weapons case). It takes longer to put on when I hit the ground, but I have to get my rifle and nods up anyway. Sitting in LBE and a harness for hours is a great way to overheat, chaf and get impossible-to-scratch itches. Even though we will most likely never do a real combat jump again, if we did, we would rig during the flight, so the discomfort would be manageable.
I have the Haley Strategic clips in my TAPS, also. Along with a multi-tool, I have a metal paint can opener for those pesky brass cases that can’t be cleared with finger sweeps, etc.
Thanks for yet another fantastic video. I pulled my TAPS out after the second video to reconsider. I'm not sure I'll go back to it yet, BUT the demonstrations are sure making me think hard about it. Great job!!!
After a good bit of testing and playing around with my TAPS rig I came out pretty dang close to the same set up. Some medical stuff Id recommend you try thats worked well for me is the Bear Minimum inner pouch from Refuge Medical and a USGI TQ pouch mounted sideways below the grenade pouches (yeah that means you'll have to move them up and maybe rearrange their order). The TQ pouch fits nice horizontally on mine and accessible with both hands without getting in the way of my legs (Im short and built so I feel you on the dangler issues). The Bear Min inner pouch fits the Sekri and 100rnd SAW pouches, keeps everything organized, can be pulled out (easily too) and opened with one hand and has a lifetime garuntee. You can get it in a pre built IFAK kit, just the inner and outer pouches or also just the inner if you call and specialnorder it like that.
Thanks for the update! 1. Love the idea of using the mag insert retention, im going to change mine immediatly. 2. I took the dangler pouch off of mine, first time out with it. Love the info!
Would love to get maybe a helmet/comm and possibly rifle set up if feasible but all in all greta content man wish you were around when I was a private you would’ve saved me so much trail and error!
I listen to alot of audiobooks at work and here lately I've been on a Vietnam infantryman written books and more than once they have written how the vc would use whistles for different tactics. One way was to like heard or push the units to a specific ambush location another was communication. So that whistle could be useful if the team is on the same page. Plus if u heard whistles in multiple locations around u that itself would be a mind fuck
Three days...we always plan for three days every time you leave the wire. Especially if it's just for a one day op, shit always goes south, and it ALWAYS goes longer than planned.
I really dig this series of videos. Have you had any issues shouldering your rifle with the canteen on the right side of the rig? You should consider showing the gear being worn for those of us trying to decide if a particular component will work for us. Keep at it man.
No there’s no clearance problems. And a lot of people have asked for that so in the future I’ll probably start posting pictures wearing it on my instagram page
Good stuff, I always find it interesting seeing how others set theirs up. I think the TAPS gets a lot of hate because big army likes to force everyone to dress-right-dress but the whole point of this is for it to be modular to the specific user. A lot of the shit I keep in my assault pack you stow up front. I like the idea of the easy access but I don’t think I could sacrifice all the ammo I carry. I’ve got 11+1 which has always been too much and I’ve never had to use all of them, but that’s preferable to going black on ammo imo. You gave me some food for thought though.
When would you use your Ferro belt and plate carrier setup over your other belt kit with the butt pack and then when would the TAPS be used over those other 2 setups ? I assume where your going and for how long would dictate most of it? Love the channel keep the vids coming.
No, I use all of those kits by themselves. My plate carrier and ferro belt is one kit, then taps rig is a different one, and the belt kit is a different kit as well
Yeah that’s what I figured but I was wondering how you decide which kit setup to run. Depends on what your doing ? Or is it decided for you prior to whatever the mission is ?
I usually have a canteen cup in my ruck sack, and no I usually don’t carry a flashlight on this kit, I always have a small micro stream in my pocket though
Nice work. There’s a lot gear smears out there. Which is cool to look cool, just know how to function your kit and be fluid in your workspace. You’ve got a great rifleman’s set up!
Ordered a surplus brand new one. Looks way better than the LBV I got in '10-'15, although being able to remove the vest and have the belt only was nice imo. but this having the built in mag straps in the vest was enough for me to grab one for 25$.
I think the taps was the best invention ever compared to the old flc. People never build proper set ups with them. The cool thing with taps you can carry a ruck without any issue and can still carry a full combat load without the shit weight of armor.
Well done, nice set up. I don't remember having an H harness. How are they compared to an X? Solid choice on the Headlamp. Always wore mine around my neck in the field. Easy to find and never left it behind.
Awesome video. The information you provided was very helpful. You have me asking myself "Do I really need another D3 rig considering how expensive it is? Or should I just get a TAP and mod it out the way I want it!"
Do you carry 6 or 7 mags? I carried 13 on deployment. We were conducting air assaults in the mountains in RC east and always felt like the standard 7 wasnt enough.
7 is standard combat load, I go a bit lighter on my chest rig for 2 reasons. 1) I don’t have the room, 2) if I’m not wearing armor, I’m trying to avoid contact. On my plate carrier and battle belt kit I usually carry 6, 1 on my belt, 1 in my gun. Then I have the capability to plus up to a double combat load.
I completely changed my view of things 2 years ago when i got out. Now all my gear is just modern day vietcong poverty rigs. Why not run ur battle bra with just mags and meds and then put all that excess admin stuff on a belt or in a small bulloch bag. I go by philosophy that the only things i need readily accessible at an instant are things to take life and things to save life, everything else in a bag
For me the reason why I don’t use a belt is because I’d rather use the hip belt on my 65+ lb plus rucksack. It makes for a heavy chest rig but that hip belt is essential
@TheGruntPerspective you should still be able to if you position ur pack high up, all the old alice kit used to act as a little shelf for my pack and the waist band was jus below my belly button around my upper hips.
Completed setup on TAPS Chest Rig. I deploy on the US FLC vest by 2x Triple M4 mag pouches + 2x 1Quat Nalgene Oasis water bottle + 1x rear Admin pouch for One Day - Hiking loadout. Cost-Effective way without burden
Personally, I don’t like doing that, if I have a TQ in my left shoulder pocket and I lose my left arm, I might not even have TQ that anymore. But if I lose my right arm, I can’t get to the TQ anyway. I understand carrying extra, that’s not a problem, but I wouldn’t want to have to rely on them is all I’m saying.
Would you recommend a TAPS setup for Marines across the board or more for just infantry MOSs? Seems that the chest rig is the way forward as we expect the next conflict to be more conventional in nature. In my opinion, it seems plate carrier setups will not bode well in a conventional conflict like it did during the war on terror. Love the videos!
Armor is more important in near-peer conflict than in counter-insurgency. Your enemy is better-armed with way more ordnance, and can actually contest your own artillery and air support.
@@travelingspartan2035agreed, in Ukrain I’ve hear numerous interview where they say don’t even let you go near the front unless you have armor. The artillery frag they say is just wild over there and gets way more people the bullets do. But in peer on peer conflict that’s how it’s been since like ww1
@travelingspartan2035 Even if you are wearing body armor all the time, using it in conjunction with a chest rig can still make sense. I use the chest rig/body armor combo despite the fact that I'm wearing body armor almost all the timr
@@personalaccount8914 I think you may be replying to the wrong comment because I wasn't really arguing that, rather I was disputing the above commenter who thinks chest rigs should be worn *instead of* armor in near-peer conflict. Regardless, I think whether you use a PC to carry things or keep it slick and mount a rig/TAP/FLC/LBV to it, is one part "mission dictates" and one part "different strokes for different folks." I don't prefer that method because the modern placard system sort of lets you have it both ways anyway, and my current job doesn't really require the advantages of that approach. Plus I've had annoying experiences (army 12B OSUT) with having to don and doff both an IOTV and a FLC over it multiple times a day for weeks on end, which I think has given me a strong personal bias against such a setup. Where I do think that method could be favorable is in any hypothetical where you'd need to be able to disappear into a civilian populace quickly; youd be able to rip off all your bulky sustainment items and stash them in a bag in one go, and your now-slick PC could be hidden under a jacket.
What do you think of a video on Urban not door-to-door but defending Urban. I took a rangefinder and arrange some stuff through my windows I have shots from 0 to about 235 yards. I am thinking of going down the lpvo rabbit hole LOL
How the weight distribution? Does the TAP system distribute it to your hips at all? I assume it doesn't bother you since you set it up that way. There's always the question of is it too much weight up front. What do you think?
It's harder to sit in a vehicle with a big belt kit. It also can get in the way of large rucks that you'll be using the waist belt with. If the ruck is short enough or adjustable you can usually wear it high enough that it sits on the rear pouches of the belt kit. Belt kit and a short back ruck is the superior way to carry a lot of stuff if you're dismounted, but a chest rig and ruck also works and does some things better.
@TheGruntPerspective I hear you , and explosive fetus as well. I spent most of my time in as a light infantryman doing mainly dismounted presence patrols. All we had were large Alice packs and Alice h harness belt. Imo it just seems like too much to carry on your chest, but if it works it works and give em hell.
How do you get the haley strategic inserts to work with those magpouches on the TAPS? When I put them in mine, the mags become extremely difficult to remove and basically impossible to reindex.
Stick your mags in amd leave them like that for a few weeks. They will lossen up. If you want them to loosen up faster, you can stick mags in and pieces of cardboard in with the mags to bend them out further. Then heat with a heat gun or leave in the sun for a day or two.
I run my taps on my plate carrier because Im on a vehicle crew. Its not as comfortable as running pouches directly on your kit but when you are mounting and dismounting being able to get skinny is a valueble thing. Mount it, do some running and crawling to see if you like it.
@@FapperTabbed The problem is that military armored vehicles are too uncomfortable and cramped for those who have to get into them with all their equipment.😂😂😂 Personally I prefer to have a plate carrier loaded adequately and which allows me not to be awkward in my movements, and to balance its weight using the belt equipped with additional pockets.
Looks great, excellent for breech or range training. Fighting would require Armor Below the rig. Your CAT-T's should be on your straps. Just inquiring, how old/young are you?
I just got today on my hands a TAPS panel. Surely not designed to take HK G3 magazines but, it can take one in the middle pouch with no problem. From the middle pouch you leave the left and right pouch empty for smaller items (you can not fit G3 magazines in all of them) and you can fit another magazine in the next left and another in the next right. Plus 2 in the radio pouches if you want. That is a total of five on the panel.
They may sound stupid but I have scoured the interwebs for that specific Battery Case/Holder/Caddy/ Whatever and I cannot find that F@#$! thing anywhere! WHY???. Brother, if you have a link or have one you want to sell, please, reply.
I appreciate the reply but I’m looking for the exact battery case shown in this video. I have storacells but they do not make a fully enclosed battery caddy/holder.
@@TheGruntPerspective I like the molle waist pack because of the compression straps to keep everything tight. It can fit MREs/snacks, other medical redundancies, or even 3 extra mags in a bandoiler folded up. I agree with having some sustainment kit outside of the assault pack in the rare case you have to ditch it or the fact that its easier to access stuff that isn't in the assault pack.
"In combat you will have smoke and frag grenades" unless you're a civilian, in which case you're not going to have access to either at all ever for any reason. Reason. So you can take your frag grenade and grenade pouches and fill them with something else.
i still cannot believe how the military adopted this chest rig monstrosity as standard issue, this shit makes me cringe in pain just by looking at it,should have stuck with the regular plate carrier/FLC formula, the DoD is killing your body
@@TheGruntPerspective I was actually looking for information about it. I'm considering one and from the. Thumbnail yours stood out. It looks usable. But six minutes of pre amble is ridiculous. And you repeated yourself several times.

Bravo-Zulu, Devil Dog! I retired USN Aviation but I have been looking for a good Chest Rig that is modular and upgradable unlike the Velocity System Mayflower UW CHEST RIG THE PUSHER GEN VI which is a good chest rig in the sense that it has the capacity to carry AR/AK/FAL&AR10 Mags but the pouches are fixed and there is NO Upgrades unless I send it to a PR buddy of mine that is still on active duty and have him add what I want to the rig which he already told me he would but I do not want to have to go thru that. Now that I am retired I have a small business and have access to Tac Gear and I wanted to know what your Opinion on the Ibiley Manufacturing Corp Chest Rig USMC Military Surplus New Magazine Pouches Coyote Brown is this a Solid Base to build an upgradable Chest Rig? I like the idea of using different brands of pouches to get the ones that will get the job done better since no one company makes the best of everything usually it takes three or four companies to get a proper balance. I am a big fan of Tactical Tailor, SOE and Hailey Strategic but again their Chest Rigs are AWESOME but not Upgradable! www.msrdistribution.com/marine-corp-chest-rig-coyote
