I remember sitting in my parent's livingroom watching her win the gold. It was so amazing to watch. Tara was so full of energy. And every time she hit her performance perfectly she just burst into this BIG smile. I adore her.
Dear Olympic channel, STOP PUTING STOCK MUSIC IN YOUR OLD OLYMPIC GAMES VIDEOS! It’s not like you can’t use the original audio you own the rights to it! Furthermore, there’s no need for it whatsoever!
A VERY VERY sweet moment in the 1998 Olympics....love Tara...she's 15 and acted like it.....what a talented courageous young woman...she transformed figure skating, made history, and is now getting on with her life....no matter what she will ALWAYS have this honor and it was totally absolutely positively earned!!
Sorry for Facts Nagano Tara : flutz + full blade off, less rotations landings(Gold) Michelle : perfect technique + beautiful Artistry (Silver) 2014 Yuna : Cleaned Everything better than 2010 Adelina : Flutz+Full blade take off + double foot landing + axel take off toeloop + lvl2 junior steps Tara’s comment in Sochi “Adelina did better than Yuna” Now i realised why she did that comment because she never landed proper toe jumps especially lutz like Adelina lol..
@@aftertheheadlines Tara retired immediately after the 1998 Olympics, because she knew she was overrated, and she got hurt by the incorrect triple triple combo.
Always felt Michelle was robbed of the gold. Tara wasn't tried or tested like Michelle who had proved herself over and over again. Little Tara comes in and has a lucky program. Was small and gawky to watch and they gave her the gold. Will never forget that. Again,,,,figure skating politics at work.
We saw joy on Michelle's face, too, for years before Tara. And where exactly did Tara come from? Michelle made no errors in her performance, so why Tara over Michelle who had a proven winning record. Michelle was clearly the favorite going into the competition. My voice is the voice of reason and question in this case. It it sounds bitter to you, I'd say there's something;s wrong with your hearing. Michelle, as many of the best figure skaters will agree, should have won that gold. It was like watching an undeserved overnight success. She grabbed the gold medal and ran.
It bothers me because it was so crooked. Now we have to watch Tara Lipinski receiving a lot of attention at these Olympic skating competitions year after year and why? Because she's PC? Michelle skated a perfect performance that night so what happened? And who are you? Tara's husband, mom, dad, relative, agent? Just say you're an actor and you've trained and prepared for years for the optimum movie role. All of a sudden someone 2 years younger, with little prior experience, comes in and wins the part of a lifetime that you've trained for diligently. How would you feel? Then after that you just drop off the movie radar, but the other actor is unfairly promoted for more than 20 years after that. Michelle deserved so much better. It's no different that when an unfair call is made on your favorite sports team and it costs them the championship. i doubt you'd forget that, either.
Go to her Instagram page...she remembers Brian Boitano's win in 1988 "like it was yesterday." She is very gracious about being an Olympic medal winner and doesn't mention her loss of the gold, but you can bet she also remembers THAT like it was yesterday.
Leslie Dye I have never followed figure skating, especially two decades ago since I was 5 and younger but if I was Michelle winter '98 I wouldn't be disappointed in any other way besides at myself. Sounds like she got complacent unlike Tara.
It wasn't complacency that got her, it was a fear of not being able to get the gold. Her fear of not being able to get the gold trapped her natural and amazing talent. Other top figure skaters at the time also agreed Tara was not tried and true. Having said that, I recently read an article about Michelle, and she seems to be at peace with it all. Lots and lots of politics in figure skating which is why I haven't followed closely in many years.
@@gregoryashton The ISU raised the age limit to 17 NOW, which means Michelle was robbed and Tara Lipinski didn't deserve to win. (∩▽∩)Tara became a funny story.
Tara retired immediately after the 1998 Olympics . Her Disney Cartoon program didn't deserve to win, she got hurt by the incorrect triple triple combo. Tara grew up and everything changed.
+Vette gaddia Hardly. She has been handed a whole lot of shiny baubles at other events at the expense (imo) of other skaters. Here, she earned the Silver and Tara exemplified everything the Olympics are about....courage, fire, joy, and she had awesome artistry. You think that just because Kwan didn't bite the ice she should have been handed the Gold...that appears to be the prevailing opinion of 'team Kwan was robbed'.
loco madre Michelle should have won. She skated too early imo. Most ppl, especially the Europeans think Kwan should have won. There is no way Tara could score above 5.7 on the artistic marks.
Nope. Michelle skate a simple little program with little enthusiasm of her own and it was boring boring boring. So, again, her skating first was the reason she lost, but yet the 5.9s were there thanks to the judges and gave her much more of an advantage than skating later could. So, in SLC she skated not last but still bit the ice and failed again. excuses, excuses. God forbid that the reality that Tara skated rings around Kwan be the reason that Tara is Olympic Champion. The youngest ever. Tara's artistry? She worked on that very hard even while at the Olympics and the Olympics are about athleticism, courage, daring, and the Kwan had none of these. Her artistry was more an ice dancer style and I, for one, devoutly wish that she had made her millions in that venue instead of demolishing others who really did want to compete. Kwan wanted it handed to her and probably believed all the hype about her artistry. Didn't even clue in and up the ante for SLC. The 5.9s for Michelle were a blatant boost from the judges since they all knew that Tara had the guts and fearlessness of a true Olympian.
Tara benefited by drawing to skate after Kwan. Yes, Tara did the triple-triple, but to say she deserved these marks for "Artistry"? Nah! You've gotta be kidding me! The judges gave Tara similar marks as Michelle's for Artistry only b/c they wanted to award Tara the Gold. You'll notice after Michelle's skate the judges left room in case a skater outskates her. But to say Tara deserved these marks for "Artistry"? No way! Tara won the Gold for her jumping ability, not for her artistry.
There is NO way Tara's little short jumps & "her artistry " should have :come close to Michelle!!! My husband and are trying to enjoy watching the team & pairs but Tara & Johnny Weir will not shut up. NBC ...please replace them as commentators! !!
Kathie Shirley she might be great skater when she was little but she's a horrible commentator for Olympics. Maybe Olympics can find someone a bit more mature next time for figure skating.
You ARE an Olympic champion when you can step up to the biggest plate in the world, conquer all the nerves, and really DELIVER! She was a sweetheart who deserved this.
No if there's somebody else better than you, because maybe the skate of your life still is not enough to beat somebody who is better than you (like in Sochi 2014 when the winner was fabricated by the judges but it was clearly not the best). But oh well, this sport is subjective after all.
@@aracelichely2954 Everyone surprised what happened at 1998 Olympics because no one supports Tara would be the winner. (∩▽∩)Tara had no pressure and she was a kid. Actually, Michelle's artistry and technique were better.
That "YEAH, I MADE IT" face reminds me of the one Mitchie Brusco (also a teen) did this year in X-games Barcelona when he landed the 900º spin in a normal halfpipe
The way you comment on yunas skate ..did you notice the way you skate luck of artistry low class..that why wonder maybe the judges in sochi is the same judges in that year ..michelle Kuantan is truly the winner
@@eurocamp2541 Tara Lipinski winning gold was a fluke. Tara was overrated because she skated like a happy puppy running in the park without any artistry.
kid stuff from Tara Lipinski. She was more dynamic than Michelle Kwan though despite that you needed a microscope to see her jumps. Michelle's jumps weren't powerful either so that made it even. Tara was artistically better than they gave her credit for skating. The judges did get it right. Poor Michelle Kwan the gold medal would forever elude her. She carried the U.S program for a really long time.
Without a kid's body and weight, Tara was nothing, she was overrated. (∩▽∩)The ISU raised the age limit to 17 NOW, which means Tara Lipinski became a funny story.
Poor little thing Tara complained that no one cares about her but Michelle Kwan.....so sorry for Tara, so many people thought Tara didn't deserve the Olympics gold.
@@stephaniemc9948 Michelle did a great job, she was robbed. Tara had a kid's body and weight so easier to jump, nothing more. Michelle's artistry and technique were better.
Now I know michelle was the first victim..she robbed in Nagano..like Japanese said instead of I love you..this is how they pronounce I robbed you michelle..he he he
I was real happy for her when I saw her win the gold medal I was so glad she beat Michelle Kwan I couldn't stand Michelle Kwan she's a snob in a poor sport kind of almost like Nancy Kerrigan
