This is a new enclosure design that I came up with. It can be used as an arboreal or as a terrestrial enclosure.

Looks great! Tape is your friend😉 although when I used it recently left nasty smugdes on my acrylic. I'd perhaps be tempted to add a few more holes myself but that's being very picky. Great job!

I haven't made one of these because I think I'd ruin the cut on the lower part of the lid. I like how you made yours so clean. Thanks for the info. :)

I have cut them with a Dremel before and it can get messy. That's why I mostly use a box cutter now.

You can get any color of hens you want I recommend a black or a gold if you just go down to home Depot or your local hardware store and pick out your favorite color

I am so jealous of you guys over there in the USA. The equivalent display case over here in the UK is running at £49.99 plus P&P, so all in I'm looking at approx $75 for one! And yours is less than $17 -.- over here it seems that we either need to buy specially made enclosures, or buy sheet perspex/acrylic and make them from scratch :( Great job by the way !

What max size tarantula can live in the one in the video(15 1/2x7x6) Would a 6 inch tarantula be okay in there for her entire life? I have an adult b.hamorri and a 4 inch curly hair. Plan on getting a gbb and a c.versi as well. A reply is greatly appreciated. Also one question I hope you know the answer to. If this enclosure won't work I might use 5.5 gallon aquariums with a plexiglass lid with drilled ventilation holes. However how do I secure the lid so there is no chance for escapes? I really am struggling to find a solution for this problem.

i’m planning to do the same except use 3” round aluminum screen vents. Any tips so i get a clean cut with a holesaw?

You won't get one. I'd suggest if that's your only way is to get that holesaw hot asf first

You're a genius! This will save me a lot of money. Would a soldering iron work for poking holes? Or is the plastic too thick?

I imagine that a soldering iron would make a bit of a melted mess. I haven't tried though, so I would know first hand.

Katt Chaos I think so. If you feel like it needs more, then add three or four rows at the top of the lid/door.

Out of curiosity (relatively new to the hobby) why have ventilation holes on the lid and top instead of on the sides toward where the top would be for arboreal or upper half sides if terrestrial?

My placement is purely so I can the enclosure for ether arboreal or terrestrial species. There are other placement positions that would have worked equally as well. I recently read an article, I don't remember where, but it addressed ventilation and physics. Its point was that the placement of ventilation did not so much matter in regard to air circulation. I know that many say that enclosures need lateral ventilation and I myself have made such statements, but I no longer believe that it is a necessity.

I know this video is really old but I recently made an enclosure like this but ran into the problem of the acrylic melting while I drilled the whole. How did you combat that when using the dremel?

You just reminded me that I haven't uploaded in a long time... Haha! I run the dremel at a slower speed and I never attempt to drill straight through. I start each hole and then rotate back around until they finally start breaking through. This give it a chance to cool off before melting. First time I did this, I had the same problem with it melting.

TarantulaSam thank you so much. I tried using some water and that seemed to work! On my dremel I can’t get the dremel to go down in rpms. I should try to find a better dremel or have some patience and do a little at a time. I ended up finishing the enclosure nonetheless and it’s great for a first one. I also had NEVER used a dremel before. I’m sure it will take some practice but thank to much for this video and the reply.

Is it safe to have a heat pad on these enclosures?

I believe it would be ok to put some of the low watt ones on without an issue, the ones that say they are rated for plastic. That being said, I never use any heat pads for any of my tarantulas, as it can burn them and they do fine at room temperature.

Jvg89 it really doesn’t make sense for me to sell them. I would have to charge too much to make it a good deal for a buyer. If was priced reasonably, it wouldn’t be worth my while or I would be open to it.
