Another good thing to do for juveniles is to go to pet smart and ask for an empty beta fish container. They gave me one for free.

Even though these stores aren't everywhere it still gave us a great idea of what type of containers work well for enclosures (size, material, etc). Great vid. Thanx 😄👍

Im new to the hobby, recently ive got a curly hair tarantula and now i have 2 arboreal spiderlings coming (gooty sapphire) (trinidad chevron) and one terrestrial (cobalt blue) and ive been searching online where to get really nice container to make enclosure for my upcoming spiderlings. And this really helps i have store 30mins away from me and thank you for sharing it means a lot. :)

I’m so excited right now my first tarantula just molted for the first time I’m new to the hobby and only got 3 slings right now “Togo starburst, a geniculata, and my first 1 a GBB, but still it’s super awesome that it molted and this vid is helpful because I am keeping them in water bottles right now and have been thinking about changing the enclosures

Container store is AWESOME for DIY enclosures. Great video.

The container store is the best! I love the tall amac boxes for arboreal slings! I use the smallest drill bit available and go crazy drilling holes for cross ventilation. They work great. It's really hard to go into the container store and not leave with something for a future rehouse. I know a friend of mine uses the storage containers from the container store for most of her juvenile and adult terrestrials. The shoeboxes are great but you definitely need a drill or soldering iron for those because the plastic is a bit brittle and probably would crack if you apply too much pressure when adding holes (so dont just use an awl or nail). I love how clear those shoeboxes are but I wish the lids fit more securely. The first time I went in there my mom was with me and I just kept pointing at things and saying to her "I could put a tarantula in that!". I think that's the moment she realized I wasn't going to stick to just 2 tarantulas like I had at the time 😂

Large peanut butter jars work well if you like recycling. I also found some nice clear heavy duty containers at target online. They look like the hobby lobby ones but thicker and heavier.

Awesome and surprisingly suiting video for me that is looking like a mad man after enclosures. The problem is that I live in Sweden and we don´t have those kinds of plastic containers like I saw you look at in those stores. We have Exo Terras, but they are really expensive here. I have watched a video on how to make enclosures out of cd-cases that I might do. But the easiest way is to find proper plastic containers with a lid that safe and not easily comes off. I saw you look at the small enclosures that are meant for smaller animals that have ventilation all over the lid. I think I can get a hold of some of those. But I imagine that only species that don´t acquire much humidity can be held in those? Man, I wish we had such a variety of plastic containers as you have. (:

Kat with Kritter keepers I use painters tape to tape off some of the ventilation. Comes off easy and leaves no residue.

I’m in Australia, so if anyone is reading this my best suggestion for inexpensive enclosures is to look at Officeworks or Kmart. That is where I have found the best tubs that have good, easy to use clips for easy and safe arachnid housing, and they have heaps of size options suitable for slings through to large adults.

I know this is old, but I just picked up some of the ones from target that have the thick plastic with the white lids. Very nice looking. I was wondering how you ventilate them. Do you use a drill?

Great ideas! I don't love the hobby lobby containers because the lids don't stay on well the target ones are more secure.

what drill bits are you using for that material

I have the 8x8x12 Herpcult with the sliding magnetic lid on top. What type of tarantula do you recommend that I could add to it safely? I know that I can't do anything that builds the web up high because of the lid.

I personally prefer the clear plastic enclosures that also have a clear see-through lid. Especially with slings because I like to be able to see where the tarantula is before I open the container. I don't like the surprise of opening the container and the little T's on the lid or next to the lid and bolts out.

I had no idea The Container Store existed o: Now that I've seen it, I'm super tempted to drive the 4 hours to visit one xD

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me please. I’m getting an arboreal species for my boyfriend as a gift for Christmas and I purchased an Exo Terra tank 8x8x12. I was just wondering if this tank is safe and will be an efficient size during growth? I’ve read up on how the mesh lids can be bad for the tarantulas safety - especially if a leg got caught or something. Should I return the tank and get something else or should the Exo Terra mesh on the lid be small enough that it should not be an issue? Thank you for your time!

The coin vials from Hobby Lobby are really good options as well. I’ll have to DL their App. A.C. Moore is a good option for the short remainder of time they have left in business. I got a lot of artificial plants there for my enclosures; maybe too many. Michaels has some decent options as well, but they stopped selling Amac boxes which sucks, and the ones I ordered online from the container store are on backorder until late April. The nearest Container Store to me is about an hour away. I would know. I’ve already gone their twice to check it out and make a return. ;). However I am using their basketball and doll display cases for my larger specimens. My philosophy is, if I’m going to drive all that way, I better get what I came for. Luckily I have some vacant Amac boxes from Michael’s lying around that will work while my slings are still small.

Bad news.... Just came back from The Container Store in the Tampa area and they said they discontinued carrying Amac boxes... I bought 12 of the 4"x4"x3" that they had left.. They had some taller ones but they were colored. When I asked about clear in all sizes they said they weren't getting any back in.. :(

How do I poke holes in them I tried and the whole shoebox cracked so did the Amac box

Now I know where to get enclosures for my pet spiders
