I don’t care who is a fault, Target or A to Z darts, they both piss me off at this point! There is no excuse for either company to have done this. Why didn’t they do this same thing with the Baggish darts? Whoever is responsible, this was done obviously due to Lauby’s popularity.

Could be that A-Z isn’t actually a wholesale buyer and has to buy Target items from someone else like DC at retail price in the UK, then mark them back up to profit. I don’t believe that they are sold out yet - they probably never had the stock to begin with. Similar pricing to a lesser extent applies to Winmau and Red Dragon as well. Given how easy it is to buy from the UK or NED online at super cheap shipping, in 2021, there isn’t really a better explanation.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
AZ gets their Target supply directly from them. Also, Winmau/Red Dragon do not control the prices here in the USA which is interesting. But Target 100% controls the pricing here in the USA. Let's just hope this is all a pricing error... Although I doubt it 😂

A-Z Darts prices are higher across the board, and they probably have a good idea how they want to do their business, so they can do whatever they want. I have been buying my darts from the European sellers because it's so easy and everything is moderately priced. In fact, I expect my new Blade 6 board and miscellaneous supplies to arrive soon from Dartshopper, and I paid $56 for the board with $16 shipping total . A-Z was sold out for these boards, so I didn't really look closely at the costs there. Buying darts stuff from Europe is too fun and easy, and I have yet to buy anything from a high-priced domestic seller.

There is some serious price gouging going on with flights and stems on the American Amazon page. For now I’ve taken almost all my business to dartscorner in the UK, I appreciate you mentioning them. My first visit I filled my shopping cart to the brim. It’s almost like going to the dollar store!
@WorldwideDarts

That's definitely where they get you here in the USA. All the small stuff. Stems and flights cost a small fortune. Meanwhile I can go to Darts Corner and get a set of nylon stems for 20 cents. Those same stems will cost me $1.50 here.

I really like the Target daytona fire gt line (gt03) and use them for my match darts. Target adjusted their prices even higher last year around December. I was told this by one of the shop owners when I asked him if he could price match a set for me. I think the daytona fire gt darts were roughly around $180 usd prior to that and then went up to $215 usd. In comparison, you can buy that same set of darts from puredarts for about $132. The mark up for the shops in the US is 62%. For the most part, I still try to buy from the stores located here for things like stems and flights. If a set of darts are like 20 dollars more, I will still buy them from a US retailer especially if there is free shipping. I'm not going to pay $83 dollars more for a set of darts here. I could even get expidited shipping from the UK and still save a lot of money. It would like to hear an explaination from Target as to why this is the case. It's kind of sad because the gouging takes business away from the shops here. Another great video! You have saved me a ton of money over the years. Thank you!

Honestly, I have been trying to place the order from Russia. I was buying a bunch of items from such brands as Unicorn, One80, Harrows, 8 flight and Target, and opted for DTD rather than AZ, because not only the prices at AZ are higher by 30-40 percent, but also delivery from the US is extremely costly (25 dollars) vs DTD (5 pounds). It's dead true what you are saying about the prices, but it doesn't appear to be through Target fault particularly.

Like i ended up getting the harrows ice recut 26g darts went to a-zdarts and the price was $115.99 i went to dartshopper and was $71.99 so around a $40 different price range. But target pricing here in the us is ridiculous. Can get it cheaper n save money in ur wallet by going thru overseas shop. It shouldn't be that way i would think these company would want to expand and grow the sport of darts here in the us. Just my opinion lol.

"What the market will bear." If this is intentional USA gouging the next move might be be to curtail or stop sales from across the pond in the form of a massive tariff. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Great Britain government went right along with that. Could be out in left field here, but nothing surprises me even a little where price gouging is concerned. It's what companies do until they're caught and exposed resulting in massive customer loss.

Ohhhh maaan! Don’t get me started. This topic is frequently on my mind and it angers me plenty. Things aren’t any different in Canada. I initially thought that the huge difference in price was due to customs/ import tax, but I guess not. I had the chance to speak with a senior exec from Bull’s about this and he was just tearing into the North American market and how shops here don’t stock new releases and how they don’t invest in accessories, marketing, etc. I was thinking to myself, “buddy, the burden is on you, the manufacturer, to provide them with a flexible arrangement (ie. Pay after sale; or return unsold sets at the end of the year) and in turn this will help popularize the sport and increase business.” But no, they want poor small dart shop owners to cough up the money and do all the hard work for the manufacturers. And to add insult to injury, they want to set the prices at a completely different price point than in Europe, thus taking away any competitive advantage the shop owner may have (ie. Buying my darts without having to wait for them in the mail). Having lived in a couple of European countries and visited most countries in Europe more than once, I can confidently say that, with a couple of very notable exceptions, North Americans enjoy the higher standard of living and are more likely to reach the end of the month with a surplus to blow on whatever - I guess that was their reasoning, albeit flawed? All I have to say is thank God for Dartshopper’s $8.99 and Royal Mail’s £4.95 shipping 🇳🇱🇬🇧 A bunch of us North Americans should get together and start our own darts company. Only way to level things. And either way the tungsten is coming from China 😝

@theoloonstra9009
@theoloonstra9009 2 года назад
Some of this difference is easily explained. When you buy 1 set in the uk you pay for postage and packaging. Now Target imports the darts to the us. They have to ship them to the US first most likely in a shipping container. This costs money. Second Target has to pay import taxes to get their products on the us market this import tax will be paid by the customers as well. Third Target is bringing those darts and accessoiries in large bulk so more money is lost on storage and distribution. And yes you as customers will be charged for it in the eventual price. Is this all right maybe not but it's how it is.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
Some of you guys just aren't getting it. A lot of us understand how it all works with shipping but what you typed out doesn't explain why there's a 73% markup on ONLY the Danny Lauby darts. That's obvious price gouging on a specific set of darts. Now, do me a favor and have a watch of my recent Matt Campbell review. Everything is the complete opposite of this video. An American dart company (Galaxy) has to do everything you just said but they're shipping the darts to the UK instead of them being imported here to the states. After it's all said and done the darts are WAY cheaper once they get to the UK dart shops. Almost 1/2 the price! That just goes to show you how much these American dart shops are jacking the prices up on us. Also... when you're importing hundreds of 1000's of dollars worth of product all the shipping and taxes are spread out over 1000's and 1000's of products. So the mark up isn't that substantial. Let me give you an example... Unicorn and Shot darts imports their darts to A-Z Darts right? Explain how their products are almost the same price here in the states compared to the UK dart shops. If shipping and taxes is expensive as you say then surely the same formula would work with Unicorn darts right? It doesn't.
@retsoptihs0
@retsoptihs0 2 года назад
We pay VAT though, so the difference isn't quite as big as pointed out. I mean as a UK customer I'd have to pay that £43.94 (but it's still cheaper than the £50 (roughly) that you get charged over there so your point still stands. You'd think Target would be bending over backwards to get the most potentially lucrative market. So it is silly, regardless of whether Americans earn more (which they do on average) and Target are only hurting themselves. I doubt Target sell the darts cheaper in countries where people don't earn as much as we do.

I do get your point and you are obviously right, but it is a bit odd that you compare VAT exluding prices with what most likely is VAT inclusive prices. You pay VAT on anything you buy over there too, it can of course be a different percent for food products then sports apparel etc, but you do pay VAT. I know VAT can differ from state to state, but still here for example it is 27%, so if I were to compare anything that is VAT inclusive to something excluding VAT, it would cause a big difference. Again, I'm not sure what VAT rates you have over there on sports apparel, but it would be a more fair comparison if you also calculated with that included. I know you do not pay VAT under a certain amount there, so you get certain stuff free of VAT in the US, but again, that's kind of unfair when a US company must add VAT to their prices. That would probably still only make up for a certain portion of the outrageous variances though...
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
VAT has absolutely nothing to do with the United States. That's an overseas tax only. If I purchase a single set of darts from the UK I do not pay VAT so there's no reason to include it here in this video. Again, that's an overseas tax so it would make no sense to include something we do not pay here. Also, you do realize that American dart shops don't include VAT right? Here in the USA these darts shops operate under the MAP (Minimum advertised price) selling practice. That's the main reason for the inflated prices here. On top of that I didn't even mention the FAKE suggested retail price that A-Z Darts uses. They use that made up price in order to "trick" their customers into thinking they're getting a deal.

James raises a very good point here. Here in the USA a large part of the darting culture... and this is a weird one... but many old school players like to flex and talk about how much their darts cost. What you fail to mention is that A to z and dart brokers together set the MAP pricing for all US dart shops. If you do not sell at the price they tell they close your accounts. Target and Unicorn are the two most money hungry dart companies. I have a direct account with both and they set their wholesale so high if you want to make any money on their products you have to rip people off. Wholesale options are very limited over season and direct pricing from Unicorn and Target is actually higher then using one of the 2 US wholesalers. People pay it so they keep doing it.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
Yes, they operate under MAP but in this case with Target it's THEM that control the prices. With other companies like Winmau/Red Dragon or Unicorn it's A-Z that "invents" the pricing. On top of that they completely make up the "suggested retail" price in order to fool their customers into thinking they're getting a deal. I have several other videos throwing American dart shops under the bus for the crap they pull but in this case the blame rests on the shoulders of Target for the one specific set of darts and the 73% markup. Why are you bothering with wholesale though? Why not order from place like Double Top Darts instead? Their retail is lower than American wholesale.

This video is pretty bad honestly. VAT is 20% so add that to the price in the UK, while average sales tax in the US is 5%. A-Z Darts ships free over $45, Double Top does not. When you look at total cost they’re much closer. Plus you have to factor in quantity costs - a store in the UK is going to sell waaaayyyy more darts than a store in the US which means the store in the UK is getting the product cheaper. Nobody hates us, it’s just basic math.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
Please, at least research or have some slight bit of knowledge BEFORE commenting. Sales in the USA outpaces UK sales by over 10x. I would hope you realize that there are way more people here in the USA purchasing darts and dart supplies compared to the UK and matter of fact, it's not even close. We also don't pay VAT here in the USA so there's that. But let's do a few comparisons with A-Z darts to see. Here's the Harrows Chizzy darts at A-Z. $90 with free shipping... www.a-zdarts.com/darts/steel-tip/12-11602-22-Harrows-Dave-Chisnall-Chizzy-Steel-Tip-Darts-22gm.html Here's the same exact set of darts from Double Top Darts. i.imgur.com/ItUXqjp.png As you see there, £49 or $61 shipped. A difference of almost $30 on a single set of darts. I quote from you "When you look at total cost they’re much closer. " That's close? Let's do another one. How about the most popular player to ever walk the planet, Phil Taylor. His darts cost $150 with free shipping from A-Z Darts... www.a-zdarts.com/darts/steel-tip/15-200934-26-Target-Phil-Taylor-Power-9-Five-Gen-5-Steel-Tip-Darts-26gm.html I won't even bother to mention A-Z Darts completely made up (AKA fake) suggested retail price. A deceptive practice that ONLY American dart shops use btw. Here's the same exact darts from Double Tops for £84 or $106... i.imgur.com/9wPxVfl.png Again, that's close? $106 or $150. I could literally buy 3 sets from Double Top darts or 2 sets from A-Z. So since you were totally wrong about the amount of sales and completely wrong about VAT and way off on the "When you look at total cost they’re much closer" then it's obvious to me that there's one of two things going on here. You're trolling or you're just completely misinformed and outright have no idea what you're talking about.

So based on that would you please explain why only some brands are marked up if there's postage and import tax. And keep in mind, Unicorn and Target both come from the UK. I know the answer but I'm curious as to what you say.

@@WorldwideDarts Dont know.. was just suggesting maybe that's their thinking.. would cost you about the same getting from UK with postage and tax. 50 quid or so is the most darts should cost any how I reckon!

Shipping is minimal from the UK. About $4 for a set of darts. Check out this one cherry picked example of two sets of darts on sale. Here's is a soft tip version from Darts Corner. $27.52 plus $4 shipping. So about $32 all in - www.dartscorner.co.uk/harrows-spina-darts-soft-tip-tungsten-gold-blue-p5908 Here is the same exact model at A-Z Darts also on sale. I had to use the steel tip version as their soft tips were sold out - www.a-zdarts.com/darts/steel-tip/12-52907-22-Harrows-Spina-Gold-Steel-Tip-Darts-22gm.html As you see... twice as much! Twice! I could buy two sets of Spina darts from Darts Corner and it would still be cheaper than A-Z Darts. That goes WELL beyond postage and import tax and straight into blatant price gouging. Here's the thing though, for the majority of American players it never crosses their mind to check UK dart shops so they are completely unaware of the drastic price differences. So that's where I come in and try to help people save $$$ 👍🏻

a possible explanation: the us playerbase, demand and market size is much smaller which makes shipping over to the us much more expensive and less attractive to target. Plus with americas mentality: „we buy in america“ Target could and should(from a company standpoint) take advantage of it.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
Believe it or not darts is extremely popular here in the USA. We have about 10x the amount of darts players as in the UK. Of course darts is WAY more mainstream in the UK but here in the USA the amount of sale the shops do makes the UK look like peanuts.

@@WorldwideDarts its not only the uk its all of europe that is in a darts frenzy. I can say in Germany and the Netherlands its crazy how much the people buy. So i dont think the us makes the sales that europe makes. But do you think most americans only buy from american shops

An interesting read in this old post with a few links. www.reddit.com/r/Darts/comments/6nd4ag/how_many_people_do_you_think_play_darts_in_the_us/ People forget how big the USA is. Somewhere around 325 million people? Darts is very popular in almost every corner of the USA. All that means is there's a surprisingly massive amount of darts sales here in the USA.

@@WorldwideDarts also the usa is obviously just a lot bigger than the uk, and most usa darts players are probably playing on soft tip... (Correct me if i am wrong)

Go with Double Top Darts... use the discount code fb2021 and they offer tracked shipping for I think $6 or $7. All in all still less than $60 for the Lauby's 👍🏻

I think they just mark up the price because US darts is overpriced (ie. Bottelson darts). This is just like Harrows selling their products in Japan doubling their price as well!

Hey WW, unfortunately it’s been this way forever. Pretty much any product which is made outside of US - we will always have to pay more for than in any other Country. Most of these products are priced based on potential customer”s ability to pay.

Thankfully it's super easy to order from the UK dart shops and save a boatload of $$$. The problem is that many, many American dart players aren't aware of this.

They're top priced for sure, and I got a few sets of designa darts too. However, I really cannot say they a well made... The cuts are not clean and it is obvious that they change the blades for machining their darts a lot less frequently. All the darts looked used out of the package so far from my experience

It’s just as bad in England, you buy Apple products and they just charge us the same in pounds as dollars, even though it’s only 0.76 dollars to a pound, but if I was American i just wouldn’t buy target darts anyway, there’s plenty of other great darts to choose from

@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
Nope. That's not it. If that were true then we'd see similar pricing from ALL UK companies. But if you have a look at Unicorn and Shot (NZ based) the prices are similar if you buy them in the USA or the UK. Besides, what did they do... pass "transportation costs" on only the Lauby darts? So no, that doesn't make sense.
