They are very uncommon outside of Penn., NJ, MD. They are found in a very localized region of the US and almost non-existant anywhere else. I've never played one one myself.
@@yankeeclipper4326 I'm from South Jersey and when someone says "darts?" this is what they mean. I have no clue how that Limey board you throw at works...lol. I have a beautiful set up in my basement. The Apex made darts are faster. They trim those turkey feather down low. Good if you don't have a big arc to your throw. The Widdy's have more hang time. The boards are either wood blocks or wound paper. I have a wound paper Widdy. They aren't cheap, around $200. They are going to get even higher because the guy that makes the Widdy's is getting older and not working as much. Yeah, a guy. It's a one man operation. I was thinking about driving out there to visit it.
Come on did you already forget that you managed to hit a 180 with the 34g 11mm wide butt brass darts? It would make a great video if you would attempt to hit a 180 with these darts.👍🏼
Yes but that video was exceedingly hard to make and throwing a heavy dart of that weight is easier than these. Once you get to a certain size it becomes almost impossible to hit a 180. The treble is only 33mm wide. All 3 of these darts are 36.6mm wide
What's up worldwide there was a bar down in Crystal River fla that I used to go to a lot .. and those guys down there they play a whole lot of that wood Dart stuff I remember the first time I seen it I'm like what the hell but those guys and gals are good they love their wood darts.... and if anybody can get a 180 with them I'm sure it will be you... can't wait to see that video cuz I know it's coming👍
I play baseball darts all the time.. There's another variant I play as well where singles are base runners and the triple is a homerun. And the double ring is an actual double .. and awesome show with those wooden peg legs ..
Us Philly people grew up on this. It’s actually funny watching people call English “real darts”. This guy isn’t a bad shooter either, way to promote the game. 👍🏼
Thanks! I love American darts and that's how I got my start in darts. If you want to read an interesting article about American darts have a look here. I like the idea although it's a bit far fetched. dartsinsider.blogspot.com/1999/08/a-maybe-not-so-far-fetched-idea-to.html
@@WorldwideDarts Will do, thanks. They had actually wrote something on me awhile back. I still actively shoot out of Phila, been through many leagues from Delco-Bristol. Take care Mark Francks Darts
I love this video. I have had an American dartboard for a number of years now. Damn it is a fun but frustrating game to play with your friends. The boards and darts run a bit pricey but you will get a long life out of the equipment. It is a very localized game to eastern PA. I live in Western Pa and most of the darters in my are have no clue what an American dartboard or widdy darts are. I am very pleased to see WWD introducing this style of darts to all of the viewers. Love your work.
Why didn't you go to pdc school I highly believe you could compete. I definitely want to see a 180 I was hoping you would have tried on the first inning when you had one T20 even if it was slopped. I'm trying to hit a 180 with every set of darts I own ,over half way there
Trust me on this one, I would most likely get smashed. If I put in some practice I can put up some good numbers but the pro's are on an entirely different level. Sure, I could beat a few if they're off and I'm on but those guys are so damn consistent. But.. keep an eye out for Saturday's video. It should be a funny one 👍
@@WorldwideDarts I'm always watching for your videos! Well your an amazing dart player, I know pro's are like mechanical robots programmed to hit but you are an excellent player
Good game! 44 is my high game. Not very often. Yes on the 180 my count 3 . yes on Robin hood. I play baseball with steel tip too. Also high baseball, 11 threw 20.great practice games. Ralph USA
Awesome review here on the Widdy darts. Too bad you didn’t have an actual Widdy dartboard to play your round of baseball. I have a complete Widdy setup at my house including the Widdy scoreboard and light. Highest game I ever had was 48 runs. This was of course on an actual Widdy dartboard however. Many bars in PA have these boards. Hardly ever see the English style bristle board. It’s either the Widdy boards or Soft tip Arachnid machines.
Crazy darts, crazy board, crazy score, I don't even think I'd get that with normal darts but gona have some fun 2moro and do my best ha😀 interesting vid, good work We💯🎯 ps. We all know u got a 180 don't be bluffing😜👍
Can i tell you the time we fancied a game of badminton, what I did not know was that my friend kept his Widdy darts with his shuttlecocks, needless to say the darts was a low scoring affair, and the badminton ended up a bloody affair...
I've seen UK regional boards but the scoring is generally similar. This board is crazy and scored like a different game (I suppose not too dissimilar to cricket!)
No idea where they came from, but I have a box of these. On the box, it says there are 12 of them, but there are actually 15 of them. I wish I knew where or even when or how I got them. I do know that I've never had a proper board for them, but I still take a few of them them out every now and then to throw a few innings at my regular board.
Grew up in the Philly suburbs, and we always had this board in our basement when I was a kid. Never played English darts until I moved to Florida in my mid 20's.
I really like the game a lot. It's how I got my start into darts years and years ago. I'm surprised it never caught on in other areas of the USA to be honest.
Probably didn't happen because the great Philly area dart shooters in the '70's realized there was more money and prestige in going to English darts tournaments.
Loved seeing these unique darts. These are fatter than the old brassies from the eighties. I was cheering on the baseball, I said you would get 28 but you smashed it
Totally commenting because I’m so impressed! First of all they’re huge! (That’s what she said) But they are all American, all the way to the core! Love the videos worldwide! Bring the BOOM!!! BABY! GAME ON!!!
Just curious 🤔.. are you Widdy darts legal for sanctioned tournament play?? Great video subject.. interesting, and looks like a lotta fun.. in times like this... what’s more fun than a set of wooden darts, a piece of cardboard to throw at and a six pack.. old man Widdy was definitely on to something 🎯🎯.. thanks for bringing it back to light!!
180 would definitely be possible, but you would have to get them in at different angles. Think two of them going in like Taylor and one going in like Mardle.
That’s really neat, I am from Maine and I have never seen this board, although I remember my mom buying me my first cheep, cheep dart board and if you flipped it around it did have a baseball game on the backside but I am almost 100% sure it did not look anything like the game you have introduced me to today.... very cool again I am a huge fan of your channel and very impressed with your knowledge of darts
True story: about 1987 in Birmingham, Alabama, some of my dad's coworkers recruited him for their dart team. He didn't have his own darts, so he went to Walmart and bought this kind of darts with the turkey feathers. He showed up at the bar with them, everyone had a laugh, and of course later he wound up buying good tungsten darts from a proper catalog. Over the next three or four years he amassed seven trophies in local tournaments with his team, and he and one of our good family friends from the team taught me how to play. I love the game now as much as ever, and this is the first time I've ever seen Widdy darts. I showed my Dad this video, and he confirmed: yep, darts like these are just like what he bought at Walmart in the 80s.
Worldwide; I've been shooting darts since the mid 70's and I used to have a couple sets of the Widdy's. We sometimes used them in practice just for a challenge and fun. Happy to see them again. Thanks for a great review. BTW, I have seen the American boards before, just never played on one.
Ah! I still have a partial box of genuine Widdy darts. Back in the 70's before I even knew about repointing, I wanted longer points for my copper tungsten darts so installed Widdy points and they worked well. Thanks for the memories :-)
Great video, great score on your first ever game! Just want to add it’s not just a Pa game. More regional thing with most saturation in PA/NJ but also spreads into NY and MD a bit. You need to get a board and put a video out shooting on it! Thanks for introducing people to the game!
I live in Central Pennsylvania and shoot 2 nights a week dart league playing baseball. We used apex darts up until about 2 years ago until they went out of business I sure miss using the apex brand. I personally don't like the widdy darts but love throwing darts period!!
Not in baseball darts. You can play other games like around the clock, 6 11 Cork among others that utilize either non-traditional innings or the whole board but the main game in league/tournament games is 1-9 baseball.
I'm from the US and I'm even like wtf? Also the feather flights take me back to my long bow days! These are really cool and seem like a very traditional fun way to play. Cant wait to play this game with some friends with just my normal darts
Ah man, I deleted it because I went back and watched it again and you did say the weight (finishing up on a job site so couldnt really watch) hows the power lifting been? Your slinging these 13g darts like nothing lol
@@shred_zed1 Ah okay that makes sense. I was having comment glitches a while back so it made me nervous that it was happening again. Gyms are closed so it's just pushups for a bit. We have a nice outdoor fitness center that I can use for a bit though
But it's only a 1mm change for one dart. Overall I need to find 3.3mm extra to make the darts fit. If there's a limit to what's possible these darts might be it.
Ive lived in Philly 6 years and I've seen these boards in townie bars. Flights are usually beat up badly. I've always wanted to get a board as a wall decoration.
I have an online darting friend that just sent me a pic of a an American board that he bought on Craigslist for $5!! Thing was in amazing condition too. Sooooo jealous!! Have a look, it's the old basswood board from Deco... imgur.com/woW8Ocw
When I visited Stroudsburg PA with on of my brothers to visit my parents there was a bar that had a board drawn on a large sheet of cork. Been a long time, both parents gone quite a while now.
Good eye! Yeah probably. Keep in mind, these come in a box with a dozen other darts. I assume these were randomly taken out of the box. But all of them are handmade so they're going to be a bit different.
Good questions. I tried to contact Widdy Mfg via phone before the review for a few questions but due to the virus everything is closed. I'll try to find out though
@@WorldwideDarts Situation is getting worse, how is it over in the US? Good luck with the 180, still remember your 180 with 48g darts so I reckon you can get it.
Never even heard of this board before. Baseball darts? Cricket? Do Americans do everything, other than play actual darts? Do they not know how to calculate numbers from 501? Is that it? Bad at math? I find that hard to believe. Seeing how much they use Imperial numbers.
@gregdangeo as someone who’s played every style of darts , I can assure you American darts is the hardest form of darts, which is why the line is 7’3” , at 8 feet it be near impossible. Try and throw a 12 gram dart on an English board and let me know how you do.
Received a set of hand made caribou antler darts this Xmas. Mine are 21 gms, the same as my regular darts. Made to choice of weights. I guess north east coast of Canada version. Threaded for flights. Our style of baseball is shoot until you miss. On the beer darts.
@@jhoutdoors I grew up playing American darts. I'm sure you've seen videos? Here's a video. There's nothing about scoring 4 points. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UIs005NrFFM.html
These are the darts and dartboard (the red and blue one you showed) that I threw on as a boy back in the 1960-70s. My Family was from Pennsylvania and this setup is what my dad had to play on.
I’ll share this story... I was 10 or 11 years old and practiced like a fiend - to get ready to beat my Dad in a challenge match. He was a good darter - and clutch at both darts and pool - good under pressure. On our “Widdy” board, we would play “baseball”, one round at each of the innings 1 through 9 - in order. No “fallout” scoring just “singles, doubles or triples “ in each inning. Dad had a “house rule” that if you scored 9 in the ninth inning, you win - even if your score is below your opponent’s. Well, I kicked his ass - was more than 9 runs ahead going into the 9th inning. Dad throws three triples in the ninth, but the last does not stay in - we watch it fall out onto the floor. He says “That was in , give me another chance?” I said sure - I had never seen either of us hit 9 on any number, so what were the odds he could hit 4 trebles in a row...? Of course, he throws his 4th treble in a row to win! I was crushed. He is not the kind of Dad to console you - he rubs it in. But he did say that I threw the best game he recalled anyone throwing against him. I don’t know if I ever did beat him on that board...
