The Green Witch tarot looks quite Celtic inspired so why do people complain about it's lack of diversity? Celts are European. A Native America deck wouldn't be very authentic, and frankly it would be weird, if it contained chinese and african people etc. for the sake of diversity.
If it was called the Celtic Tarot or Celtic witch tarot or Green Celtic tarot. But are all Green Witches white and European? In my opinion, it makes a statement that Green Witchcraft is exclusively European and white. That plants and herbs and herbcraft are only used by white, Europeans. In the end, everyone can decide if they want diversity in their decks and if diversity/representation is important to them.
@@GreeneyedTarot Sure, but then again if a plant witch deck produced in Africa didn't represent the whole world no one would think it odd. I just don't think it should be something to complain about.
@@nataliebutler In my opinion, it feels like putting people into boxes and reducing everyone to only being able to find and use decks that represent their skin color. Both of these decks lack diversity. I don’t see one person in either of these decks that look like me in terms of body size and shape. So I guess I would call these “fantasy themed” decks if your fantasy is to live in a world where everyone looks the same. I did a side by side because I feel they are very similar. I also don’t consider wanting to be represented and included as “complaining” I also do not feel the answer is telling someone to seek out an “African plant” deck if they want are a Green Witch and want to work with that energy. These are my views and I appreciate you sharing yours and watching the video. And also sharing which deck you prefer. Any interactions that make me think and reflect on my own views, are beneficial to me. I hope you feel the same ☺️
@@GreeneyedTarot I appreciate that you personally framed it more as a choice of what you're looking for in a deck, rather than a complaint, but I have heard several people speaking as if diversity is mandatory in all things.
Thank you for showing this! I hate when people are so dismissive of certain new mainstream decks… so many good decks lost because it’s not mainstream approved.
Wow. I don’t listen to anyone 😂😂 people just collect and done even read most Time. The green witch I have and the guidebook Is brilliant. People overlook the guidebook far to much
Love this overview. I actually don’t have either deck bc for both there were some cards that didn’t resonate with me. After watching your video I’m going to get both decks and pick my favorites from both... Seeing them side by side I saw my dream deck by combining the two!
I don’t identify as a Wiccan and the author of the green witch tarot is a Wiccan author. Which isn’t a problem but I’m a witch and a pagan that doesn’t follow Wicca and avoid Wiccan influenced decks personally. I love Sasha Graham and her dark wood tarot deck one of my favorites even that is very diverse as well, Green witch’s tarot in my opinion captures diversity in a good way involving not just POC but as well as older people and men, a stereotype that men cannot be witches just women so they usually get excluded from these modern decks. I don’t mind if the author is going for a more divine feminine but personally I like when it brings everyone in and men can be feminine as well. I also love the fact that it is not solely an animal deck as well including the green witch tarot but it mixes well along with mythic creatures. I use the Witch’s Garden for my green witchcraft and oracle decks like the Green Witch’s oracle and Woodland Wardens with my spells. It’s a very cozy and wholesome deck to me.
Really great review. I appreciate the side-by-side comparison. I'm going with the Tarot of the Witch's Garden. There are a few major arcana from the Green Witch Tarot that I like but on the whole, it's Tarot of the Witch's Garden for me.
Thank you so much for this video! I was on the fence about having both, but now I'm comfortable that they are different enough to each have a place. I've had Green Witch for a while now and it was hard to connect to, in large part because of the book. The art is so witchy and nature based, and the intro material in the book is fine, but the card meanings seem so oddly more directed at a business, professional, or working mindset. I just don't use the book at all. The Witches Garden seems to know what it is. It's going on my wishlist.
There are many decks I have that I do not use the guidebooks. Some really add to the experience of using the deck. I am glad this helped you in curating your tarot collection!
Thank you for showing these side by side. I have had the green witch for a long time but love the witches garden and am excited to purchase it. It has a different feel and I would pull it for different work or with differing people. Thanks for the video.
My main beef with these big box deck sets is that they must all come with a massive book, and many of us don't need or want the book but have to pay full price for it also.
I'm keeping them both, they both have some of my favorite cards in them. The 7 of cups is what sold me on The Witches Garden. Of course the Strength card in The Green Witch is my all time fav. I love the druid feeling of The Green Witch, it makes me feel connected to my ancestors. The diversity of The Witches Garden feels more like my world here and now ! Even though they are very similar, to me they have a different feeling of time and place. I think the 8 of swords has her hand tied behind her back, because you cant see the other arm either. Thanks again for sharing, have a Wonderful Week
I love how the Green Witch makes you feel connected to ancestry. I can see the difference in feeling you get in terms of time and place. Thank you for sharing!
I gave the green witch tarot. I am considering buying the witches garden and I agree with most of you comments and conclusions but might keep the green witch tarot because I really love they artist. Just because I love collecting Kiri's art. Now there is just one thing to do and that is buying my new deck 😂. Thank you for the indept review. This helped me a lot!
Has anyone else noticed that Justice in Tarot of the Witch’s Garden, is numbered as 10? I’ve been watching reviews to see if it was just my deck or others, it’s not just my deck, but I don’t think any of the flip throughs/reviews mention it all (granted I didn’t watch every single one! But I did watch a very good amount!
Yes, it was a printing error with the deck. I believe I mention it in the video very briefly. I put them in the correct order. This was pretty widely acknowledged on social media but you may have missed it, as not everyone interacts the same way on Facebook, Instagram, etc. The first 10,000 copies were printed this way and it was a mistake in printing.
@@GreeneyedTarot I definitely missed it, bc on top of being a nurse. I’m also caring for my elderly father so I’ve rarely been on social media, that would be why I feel like people missed it! Lol!! My apologies!!!
@@Gemma6thSense no need to apologize at all!! Social media can be a time and energy drain! The Facebook tarot groups I am in were all talking about this a lot so I heard it from many different people! Thank you for all that you do to help people as a nurse and I hope your father is feeling better soon. He is very lucky to have you.
I not sure what it is but I was trying to decide between the decks and found that I really preferred the art of Tarot of the Witches garden so that's what I got. Though I do really like the sun and Sidhe card for green witch tarot though. How would you compare the forest of enchantment tarot vibes to these two? that was my third choice for a sort of more nature-y deck.
Thank you for this video! I wanted to purchase one of the decks…and it is just so difficult to choose!! I love that some of the Green Witch imagery is quite different to RWS, but I think I am more drawn to the art style of the Witch’s Garden. Also love the Witch’s Garden guidebook. What to do?!?
The card stocks are different. Witch’s Garden is on a linen cardstock so it has a little texture to it. Green Witch is more that slightly shiny smoother cardstock. I believe they are the same size so you could do that, as long as the different backs do not distract you. It’s actually a really good idea!
Thank you for the flip through! I have the Green Witch tarot but have been on the fence about Tarot of the Witch's Garden because of the misnumbering. Do you know if Llewellyn is planning to correct the misprint? It is a big deal to me and possibly others.
prefer the wheel of the year card in the green witch tarot. better colours and i can connect. older women and people too. the people are actually doing things and i love cards with no people like 'the sun'. there you can really feel what is happening in the cards, like you're there. i actually very much like the 5 of swords. both that carda nd the 5 of wands show a kind of collaboration rather than fighting or cruelty. much better than ride waite. oherwise i prefer the colouring of tarot of the witch's garden. i want both.
Thank you so much for doing this comparison. I wanted both and couldn't decide. I prefer the Major Arcana of the witch garden but I prefer all the minors of The Green Witch! So I think I made my choice! Thanks again for sharing! 🙂💚
@@GreeneyedTarot You spent a large part of this video ranting about unnecessary gendering and praising the diversity of one deck, then when you have a chance to live all of that talk and stand up to a bigot, you instead thank them for spreading their vileness. What?! Guess it was all talk. Sad.
@@MochaHoneyRose you are right. After reflecting, I realize I could have asked questions to understand where that commenter was coming from. “What about diverse decks makes you hate them?” “What about the green with tarot is superior?” This would have given me context and then I could have responded appropriately and in alignment with my beliefs and from a place of true allyship. So thank you - in my every day job, my work is grounded in helping people grow using a stance of curiosity and self-reflection. I need to remember to do that within my own interactions and activities. And you could have done the same in your comment. Asking me questions to understand why I responded the way I did. But you chose to make assumptions about me and my character. That’s what is really sad. Missed opportunity for civil dialogue and connection all around.
@@GreeneyedTarot No, I'm not interested in asking questions about bigotry and the support of it. I'm not interested in understanding virtue signaling or coddling spiritual bypassing. I'll save that for the privileged people who are not affected by this type of bigotry. People of color in general are tired of doing the emotional labor. We don't owe you civil dialogue about these things. You know better, so it's time to do better.
