I am only in the beginning stages of learning how to read with playing cards so I REALLY enjoyed this video! When I use playing cards for divination I am whisked away to the pubs of Tombstone, Arizona where Jesse James drank beer, smoked cigarettes and played cards with the boys in the basement of The Bird Cage Theater (I've visited there, the poker table is still there and the playing cards too which didn't have numbers on them back then!). To me, there's something very mysterious in a pack of playing cards, mostly because it holds so much possibility. I love that playing cards allow the reader to truly tap into **what is** instead of "what we have been told it should be." I also add my trinkets/charms to my readings (I read for myself) and, for me, they are that additional layer of symbolism that often provides sweet synchronicities and nods from the Divine. I'm excited to continue my playing card study. Have you heard of Ana Cortez (The Playing Card Oracles)?? Her late father created a playing card deck out of his painted art pieces. That's one of the decks (and she has a book) that I am using to dive into this form of divination and I am really enjoying it. 🌟 Thanks for sharing, James. 💕💕-Ang

This is a great comparison! I’ve not dug into playing cards yet for divination, but it has been tugging at my mind.

Excellent video! I've been feeling stuck with Tarot and have been interested in working with playing cards to change things up. What playing card deck are you showing in this? It looks much nicer than a regular cheap store bought pack. The pips are fancier, more akin to the 19th century french decks.

I'm more inclined to use playing cards, but I find that, depending on how and what region you learned to read makes a huge difference (example, a North Carolina reader will have different meanings than an gulf region reader, and different from a Midwest reader, due to the styles varying per region). For me, I prefer the playing cards, they tend to cut right to the answer, usually the main ones that many don't like hearing, where tarot tends to take a gentler approach. But I love both systems.

A great way to distinguish and conceptualize the cousins. Tarot for “from the top down” readings; playing cards for “from the bottom up” readings. All the tools have their place. Either separate or in combination with each other. I like the idea of using playing cards as clarifiers during a tarot reading. 🤔 I’m not confident enough with either one yet, though! Are you still working with the Stephen Ball system? I haven’t looked at it yet. I am enjoying James Himm Mitchell’s “Cartomancy with Playing Cards” series on RU-vid, and the resources that he recommends - the Regina Russell book, and J. David Arcuri’s website. There is some [not much] consistency out there. Thanks for another great video James. ☺️

Would love a sample reading using the Ana Cortez Playing Card Oracles similar to your Crowley reading or other sample Thoth readings you do with specific spreads

I begin using playing cards and I see that each cartomancer 's meanings are different...for many of the cards. I'll choose what it's speak to me. There is also a difference between the "anglosaxon" system and the "french" system: 🔶 and ♣ are inversed in terms of life 's domain and so, meanings too. I think , like you, that each "divination" tool has his use...not often the same use. Do you use 32 or 52 playing cards? Thanks for your interesting video ☺
