The Wired To Explore crew went out in search of tarpon. We launched from Vero Beach Florida and headed into the backcountry with cut mullet and live mojarra. We hooked into sailcats, gar and other large fish and only saw the tarpon rolling.
On the very last live mojarra Todd caught a good size tarpon on the lightest tackle in the boat. He landed this beautiful tarpon on a 7 foot mojo rod, 4000 series reel with 15lb braid and a 20lbs fluorocarbon leader tied to a #2 hook. The hook never set and was just holding the upper lip of the tarpon with friction. The hook came right off once we had the tarpon in the shallows.
Such an unbelievable catch on such light tackle.
