Miss Buckley yanked Tarra from her home of 26 years with her sisters to suit her own objectives. Tarra will forever remember the 20 years of circus, TV, film, rollerskating, being forced to paint, be ridden and overall used everytime she hears or sees Miss Buckley. Tarra was obtained by Carol Buckley when she was a baby elephant. The elephant knew her way longer than she knew the other elephants at the sanctuary in Tennessee. Why don't we take your child and not let you see it anymore? I suspect it was painful for Tarra to not see Carol Buckley for a long time period just like it was painful for Tarra to lose her elephant friends. Its a lose lose scenario. And it is all thanks to company politics.....

@@tabithatotten That occurred a long time ago and was stopped a long time ago. She rescued the elephant by buying it to begin with and learned from her life with it. They later moved to a farm. She is THE original founder of the sanctuary in Tenn. You are clearly a garbage can digger who takes a few paragraphs of news crap created for profit and turns it into your own little circus of misinformation to attack people who try to help the elephants. I feel so sorry for Tarra, the kindest thing to do would have been to leave her with her elephant family. Legal doesn't make it right. What can Carol claim except that Tarra is so happy in her new home with one other elephant, Tarra's big sigh was her relief she didn't see chains and bullhorns.

Terrible to remove her from the elephant herd she finally found after years of being exploited by Carol herself who put her in circuses, roller skates, films, TV shows and a book.
What you are saying isn't true. While she did use roller skates and give rides on the elephant etc to buy food to feed and care for it when she was very young and naive, it wasn't like a normal circus where they are abused. She even ultimately moved to a large farm. SHE is the originator of the Sanctuary in Tenn. But you love to dig up the garbage to create some fakery for your trolling right? It is actually people like you that are far more evil creating mental abuse with lies and misinformation. I hate what happened in both cases. Separating Tarra from Sissy is sad. But separating Tarra from Buckley was wrong too. The elephant was with her for far more of her life than the Tenn sanctuary. Tarra likely missed her a lot when she disappeared (not allowed to visit). It was the Tenn Sanctuary that stretched the court cases out into numerous years to make it even worse for everyone even though they knew she never gave the elephant to the sanctuary. It was always hers. I hope Buckley's sanctuary and the one in Tenn are both very successful. There are many elephants in zoos that don't have good care and big open spaces to wander. Hopefully a lot of rescues can occur.

Also, Buckley would likely have been happy to leave her there, if TES had allowed her to SEE Tarra. They've forgotten to mention that there were numerous hostile changes in management there, and suddenly they decided that Tarra shouldn't have human contact. Even though she's never, ever been a wild elephant. Therefore, many lengthy lawsuits followed due to the stubbornness at the TN sanctuary.
It doesn't matter how she spins it, ripping that Elephant away from her home and 'family' was a despicable thing to do. But that's a selfish human being for you!

I was so livid at the time. She’s selfish and demented. 27 years of care she didn’t pay for…let alone the psychological damage this does. Family is THE most important thing to an elephant’s life and wellbeing. Elephants not this woman.
@@Woody-2837 Buckley started the TN sanctuary with her own funds and worked extremely long hours before and after it became a nonprofit to get it up and running. When it became a nonprofit, it took over the costs of Tarras care, just the same as the other elephants, which is pretty normal. Buckley wasn't sitting at home while the sanctuary took care of her; she was actively involved in her care for decades.
I am so sorry that Tarra isnt in her beautiful home anymore. Who would do that to an elephant? First give her this beautiful home in Tennesee, give her friends and family, give her care and love like that for 26 years and then pull her out of that blissful dreamlife only because one human lady decided that the elephant is hers. That lady, Carol Buckly, thinks so much of herself that she thinks Tarra needs her. She doesnt. Carol is so less important then she thinks. You wronged that elephany Carol, you did.

This really sucked. Period. This trainer let go of her rights 27 years ago when she turned over Tarra and her expensive, total $$ to Howenwald…or did she pay for all food, medical, etc. for 27 years? If so, I stand corrected. If not, I would sue for all the expense. I will never understand taking her away from her pac. Selfish and deceptive-she’s an elephant whose life was entrusted to the sanctuary’s care.

May want to inform yourself. Buckley started the TN sanctuary and purchased the property it was on. When it became a nonprofit organization, the org took over Tarra's care along with the other elephants. Buckley worked long hours for many, many years getting it up and running. What isn't mentioned here is that there were numerous pretty hostile management changes when Buckley left. The new management would not allow her to see the Tarra who she had basically raised, ever again. They did the same to an elderly man who donated his elephant there, then suddenly changed operating rules and he was never allowed to see his elephant. Buckley would have left Tarra there if they had just allowed her to see the elephant.

Carol Buckley started the Sanctuary in Tennessee, she was the founder. What I find odd is the new management did not allow Buckley to see Tarra all the years after she left. Elephants do develop deep bonds with humans. I'm from Asia(but not Thailand) & have never heard of this odd policy being implemented in sanctuaries in Asia. In Thailand, the way is to convince the owners to go for ethical tourism - no riding, no tricks, no bull hooks. Which what some have done. At a sanctuary, if the elephant has a bond with the owner or caretaker, they are asked to stay. Bond as in keep following the caretaker, putting trunk around the caretaker, not trusting other humans. This example is from Elephant Nature Park, a famous Elephant sanctuary in Thailand. If the elephant was abused their reaction would be to run, not going forward & be affectionate. Note Thailand sanctuaries have more experience with Asians elephants than Westerners.
