This was 1934.....imagine being a regular person never before seeing footage of live crocodiles , maybe only pictures/drawings and written descriptions. It's not really fair to criticize from our modern overeducated perspective. This scene was incredible for 1934 and a good reason why these movies were still incredibly popular over 40 years later, long after they were obsolete by any standard.
Disagree with that. I think it is fair to criticize from a modern perspective. A knowledgeable cinematography student would be able to by drawing parallels to
im 55..bit i watched these as a little boy...and i was amazed by these movies then..and i am still today ..johnny wiessmuller was the best tarzan..incredible films fr that era..so long ago
Exelente Jonny Weismuller y ron Ely los Dos fueron grandes en ese papel de Tarzan Weismuller mejor todavía por ser gran nadador olímpico y nunca me pedía esa serie gracias por la nota
Love how he finally gets it with the dagger, his body all over it controlling it dominating and killing it...especially at the end when he covers the crocs face with his feet confusing it as to where it is and what is actually happening to it as he inserts the final deadly blows as the water turns red and the crocodile finally owned and put to death super cool, love the close up also of tarzan with pure determination on his face that he's going to finally kill this thing if its the last thing he does.
*For weight/height/over-all size, Weissmuller is still the 'one to beat' in Olympic 'Free Style' swimming as the 'fastest man in the water'* __________ *I have no faith in record-keeping now because so many new elements are allowed and people like Phelps who is 'borderline acromegaly' are allowed to compete with absurdly long arms and fingers and 'Win' with times measured in 'thousandths-of-a-second' is ridiculous!* ( *It means you can 'Win' by the length of a fingernail!* )
The way tarzan is struggling with this creature that is spinning wildly. Tarzan getting thrown around during the fight. Him grabbing onto the croc and riding it.
Every time I see this I think of that Popeye cartoon, "Pitchin' Woo at the Zoo" and imagine what would happen if this croc "subdued" and conquered Tarzan like that one did to Popeye.
I agree, but remember that the crew did the best they could at that time. My brother and I like watching these Tarzan movies because we remember them from childhood.
The way the crocodile keeps spinning and tarzan getting knocked around. Tarzan rolling round and round and riding the crocodile and stabbing it. Jane watching it all happen as tarzan and the crocodile struggle. The underwater shots of tarzan and the croc wrestling.
This tarzan was great for its time,we warched them at least once a week then we watched Jungle Jim.I believe Joe Lara was more true to my comic books than Johnie, one of the apes must have been a barber, lastly I wonder when a new Tarzan movie or series will be made based on the comic books which I have many
My brother and I love to watch any one that starts Johnny Weissmuller. HE was Tarzan! What a fantastic specimen of a man. Yum, that never grows old ! The only aspect that bothers me is the treatment of the animals. No PETA back then. No compassionate care or rescued on site. My brother is coming by to visit today and we'll be watching 'Tarzan and the Amazons'. Woohoo!
I have many on dvd but I have to wonder why they are not televised like so many action pics are over and over.We need some old time classics like Tarzan,Jungle Jim,hercules,Sinbad, etc
Bob Kolterjahn Sure you don't mean what things Normal people do naturally? You have to watch Stephen Kings Movie "Needful Things" and read the rest of the comments below to truly understand. We're the only Normal ones, they are the jealous ones. No sniveling now.
marcosilenzio this is 4 years late, but if you're still interested I have an answer for you. She was swimming in a circle and flopping around like she's having a seizure because it makes it hard for the croc/alligator to snap at her. They can't see very well as is, so he was trying to find her and got dizzy (yes they can get dizzy)
