ahh this made me so nervoussss! -i'm sad you didn't love frankly in love, but also knowing the books you lean towards, i figured you wouldn't like it. haha. - long way down is one of those books that i always find myself randomly thinking about. it def has had a long term impact on me. i'm glad you gave it a chance! - (the anxiety i had waiting to hear your thoughts on miss p. hahaha) ooh i def get the spiderwick chronicles vibe! all your miss p critiques are VALID. haha - a monster calls.. eMoTiOnAl rOlLerCoAsTeR - i'm happy that you ended up liking little monsters! it definitely was an unexpected favorite for me. thanks for doing this Chandler! I loved hearing your thoughts!!
@@Xx_Obsidian_Tears_xX huh ?what you mean? Tbh i dont even remeber commenting on this video Also i watch chandler religious so it defo dont belive i meant it in a mean way, maybe i didnt agree with her review idk
I just heard Ashley from The Bookish Realm talking about The Long Way Down and I added it as an audio to listen to at some point. I am happy to hear it is only a 2-hour audio, as I have just started 2 different audiobooks both 14.5 hours long, so it's always nice to have a quick read/listen.
I read Miss Peregrines a while ago because my sister hyped it up but it just wasn't for me and I won't continue with the series. Although, A Monster Calls sounds interesting and Jesse does rave about it a lot. Maybe I'll give that a try (especially if I'm in the mood to cry). Great video as always!
Loved this video and hearing your thoughts! I can tell that these taste test videos take more energy and planning on your part but they are some of the BEST videos you put out! I always look forward to them. We also get to see a pretty authentic Chan with the vlog and commentary style andddddd yesssss never stop! We love these!!!❤️
Ahhhh yes I love these taste test vlogs!!! I’m so glad you enjoyed A Monster Calls 🥺 that’s one of my all time faves, it makes me bawl my eyes out every time haha
I must reread A Monster Calls and this just reminded me. Also, I feel like the epitome of success is Chandler making a taste test video about someone. A dream.
You make me want to reread Miss Peregrine’s, I HATED that book when I read it years ago. I had been so hyped by the cover and the beautiful pictures inside and felt really let down because I got a childrens book instead of a mystery spooky kind of read. But I might have just judged it unfairly because I expected something else from the cover!
I read A Monster Calls when I was 24. A friend of mine gifted it to me, I didn't know what it was about... May not have picked it up while my dad was dying of cancer if I had known the story, but at the same time it made my feelings feel so validated. The big secret in the book was my secret, and after reading A Monster Calls I was able to come to terms with my feelings a bit more. I haven't reread the book, I kinda want to but I also most definitely don't want to... I may need another book to help me get to terms with those feelings too!
I love how you were talking about how there must be romance in every book you read when you were on Miss Peregrin’s because I knew exactly what was coming lmao
i love that a monster calls had such an emotional impact on you bc it definitely did for me! i literally had to unhaul it because i got teary eyed every time i saw the cover lmao
You should try this with bookslikewhoa 🙂 She isn’t as “famous” in RU-vid, but her recomendations are soo good. She’s likes romance and mistery/thrillers
I'm curious about Frankly in Love because I lived in Korea and was in a relationship with a Korean boy there and a big problem in our relationship was because he was too nervous to tell his parents he was dating a foreigner. He finally told his dad he had a girlfriend but he never told them that I was American. We didn't work out for a few reasons but that definitely played into why things didn't work now.
I really really hated my experience reading The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon, and so unfortunately that kind of negativity has transferred to her husband's book as well. I've felt bad though, not wanting to read Frankly In Love because I felt like I wasn't giving it a good try because of my experience in the past, but after seeing your lukewarm review of it I'm glad I haven't picked it up :(
All of these books seem amazing! I just bought Long Way Down so I’m excited and I added Monster calls to my tbr. Also I’m still pretty new to booktube so I’ve never heard of Jesse but I’m definitely about to check his channel out now chile😰
This video was so much fun to watch! A Monster Calls is indeed really good. I actually should reread it, it's been years. Whenever I feel like crying :P
are you considering choosing a black or POC booktuber for your next taste test? i noticed you've only picked white booktubers so far. i would suggest doing a taste test for ella's novellas, chanelletime, or bookish realm as i think you might have similar tastes to these creators.
I have to say, though I enjoy the Miss Peregrine’s series and have read all of them so far except the 5th, Jacob is one of the most dull main characters I’ve ever read. I’ve read the original trilogy several times and still couldn’t tell you more than 4 personality traits the guy has. Good thing I’m a plot driven reader and not character driven
A few of my booktube favs suggestions : These are channels that I watch there videos every time they posts a video. @afrolicthroughfiction @beccaandthebooks @bookseithchloe @brittanythebibliophile @codiesbookcorner @haileyinbookland @hollyheartbooks @jadeyreareads @pireaforde
you should definitely watch the film adaptation of a monster calls, it was filmed in my village and the surrounding areas. so it was really cool to watch especially as i saw some of it being filmed!
talking about YA contemporaries, i think you should give “how to make friends with the dark” by kathleen glasgow a try. one of my favorite contemporaries ever, thought it was beautifully written and woven together
oh also, forgot to add how when i first checked out the book on goodreads, jesse has given it a positive review; it was either 4 or 5 stars. it also centers around grief and coping with the loss of a loved one
when you mention spiderwick chronicles and you mentioned them going underground i highkey think you're actually talking about Arthur and The Invisibles because they do go underground in that movie 👀
Some of the issues you had with Frankly in Love are similar to those I had with When Dimple Met Rishi, which is why I don't really plan to pick up Frankly in Love anytime soon
Hey fellow November Babe, please don’t let the haters get to you. I hope they don’t steal your passion for doing what you love. You can’t make everyone happy and it’s also not your job. 💕
Okay well now I REALLY need to read A Monster Calls lol. I love these taste test videos, even if I don't know the particular booktuber. It makes me think about what my five favourite books would be to give to someone if they wanted to really understand my reading tastes. If you're looking for suggestions for booktubers to taste test, I would love to see you taste test Mina Reads. I recently discovered her channel and I really feel like you have overlapping taste in books, and I get similar vibes from your channels.
I love your taste test videos so much. It would be awesome if you did a taste test for Bree Hill, she gives such awesome romance book recommendations 🙌📚
I’ve come so close multiple times to hauling Frankly In Love. The hype in promoting it was crazy but.....yet again thanks for taking one for the team. Fake dating has to really Hit and be believable and the reason has to be written well and come full circle for me. It sounds like the reasons were there but sad it didn’t deliver
chandler if u really liked a monster calls (which is seems like you did) YOUD LOVE the movie. it follows the book almost perfectly and it’s the most beautiful movie ever i swear. pls watch it !!
