First and foremost, thank you for your service. Secondly, thank you for showing the world what a great father looks like. You are a great example to fathers across the world.
That thing was BS. Somebody took those things threw them in a much newer MRE and tried to reseal it. Half that stuff has been around for less then 20 years.
@@xcalibertrekker6693 They marked it as 1990 because they don't quite have a understanding on how to read American date stamps- to be fair they are misleading- I can tell by the packaging that it is a early 2000's when they first made the switch to tan. The date codes are between '03 and '06, which would make sense- the longer lasting items would be cycled through more than things like civilian cheese crackers. It's definitely not a forgery, just a misinterpreted item. Edit: they actually switched over in 1996, so this actually makes much more sense!
Hearing Micah in the background is dope haha switching it up between him and ace keeps the interviewer fresh and their reactions are different and genuine.
That is a 2001 (1290 is 290th day of 2001). This menu ran around that time period for a couple years. The bread was always one piece, but there is a later edition labeled as twin pack. Sorry to see those M&m's, I've had countless mre and have never seen that. Great vid, as always.
been a subscriber to Ace and Micah for a long long time now. glad to see you hopping on that wagon doing something TOTALLY different and interesting. Sending my love to your beautiful family all the way from Singapore! ✨ God bless
I just want to say thank you for your service. No matter if you seen com at or not you were willing to fight. And I respect that. Once again thank you for your service me ancient
Beef teriyaki was added to menu 17 in the year 2001. So it can only be 20 years old. If you can recall the numbers on the packages. The first 4 are the dates. the first number is the year, and the next 3 are the number of day from 01 to 365. So if an MRE was made on narch 5th 2001 the number would read, 1064.
Interesting, thanks. Why does the military make it a point to be so different in everything? "Wake up at oh-four hundred hours".... they rally wanna be special
The problem was that I wasn't sure exactly how old the MRE was because I couldn't remember what year I picked it up at the yard sale. Therefor I wasn't sure if the first digit would be from the 2000 or 1990 time period. Tks for the clarification on the dates. I'll be looking for those as I believe I have one more from a yard sale that I picked up. tfw, Chad!
I have eaten MREs before when Hirricaine IKE hit Texas we were without power for a long time all our food spolied and groceries stores were closed aswell. So they opened pods diatributing these MREs. I went and got two boxes and was excited because it read HOT meals. The first one I opened was a Chicken Chimichana. I had nevet eaten a Chimi before so I was happy to get it. However, mine did not come with accessories, but it did come with its own, cooking mechanism. I had to bend it backwards and something poped and it was boiling inside the pouch. You wait a few minutes and voila ready to eat hot meal. But like your experience it did looked like dog food. I could not eat it because it also had a funky smell.
Holy shit. I remember my friends in college selling me their old MRE's from the 90's/00's for a handful of dollars per or a pack of cigs, this was in 07-08. It really makes me realize my age. I couldn't have made it through a semester without them, since I couldn't afford the cafeteria. Still, if they are decently well kept, most MREs have a crazy shelf life. Thanks for sharing!
Had several MREs that saw combat. One was from Gulf War 1. Buddy secured the burning oil fields and carried them in his pack. The other was from my friend's son. He was EOD in Afghanistan. He was trying to clear an field of IEDs when one blew up and destroyed his mine clearing vehicle. 2 weeks later, he was out on patrol when their patrol got ambushed and a round entered his chest. That earned him a trip to Germany. His dad gave me some MRE components that his son carried in the field.
Dear god I can’t believe you’re having fun with this mess hahahaha me and my boys are in the field trading this stuff around and this pops up we needed this!
My service predated MREs too, USAF 1976-1980 and USN 1980-1986. A couple times I had the chance to eat the old canned C-rats. Later in civilian life, I began ordering MREs, but mostly just the main entrees. Prices are so skyhigh now, my limited retirement income just won't allow it. But I do enjoy the vicarious pleasure of watching these YT MRE channels. 😎
I love your commentary, compared to some of the other guys. I like the fact that you've eaten this type of food before in the field. Just like I did, and while I was overseas in iraq. I like that you pray and that you're a man of God, and I am praying for you that every time that you eat something that you do not get sick and God protects you. God bless you brother
So happy to see you’ve finally made your own RU-vid channel!! I’ve been watching ace forever 😃. I love watching these videos! I hope I can get my hands on one someday haha I wanna see what they taste like.
That MRE is from 2001. You read the date code, just didn't understand it. 1116 is the 116th day of 2001. The last three numbers are the day of the year in reference to 365. The first number is the last number of the year.
Yeah these and a couple years before weren't bad. They still had the best jalapeno cheese spread before they changed it up and ruined it. These are the ones right after they got rid of the full packs of M&Ms. They would "blush up" or whatever it's called and be white as hell.
These are the ones I came up eating then they changed them up and that "government cheese" spread was not near as good. The Tabasco sauce was a welcome addition and that Tabasco sauce is definitely TURNED, LOL.
Gawd I loved that jalapeno cheese spread. They changed the bread up a lot later and it got better and made the heaviest Peanut butter sammich you ever had in your life. One piece of this MRE "Bread" equivalent I think to like four or five pieces of sliced bread. You would GET FULL on this stuff beside the damn obligatory "John Wayne" crackers and "TP" that was essentially useless after eating these "half dried caulk butt" creator MREs(I've tried to think of a word for what the "finished product" is after consuming these about the best analogy 😂). Might as well wipe with a sand blaster and get somewhere.
Just found your channel!! Thank you for your service and I know your are proud of the wonderful children and grandchildren you have. Great video and I look forward to more from you ... 😉👍
You are honestly the best EVER! YOU RAISED 2 AMAZING MEN THAT INSPIRE SO MANY. I BET YOU'RE PROUD OF THEM!!! Keep up the great work and content. Buffalo, NY
Semper fi Marine! I was in , 1987 1991. I was stationed in the Philippines for a year. I never ate MRE's it gave me bad disaintary. Mama san in little Saigon. She would fix me up with Vietnamese food and chinese food. Chicken and rice, beef stir fry, chicken stir fry, rice and thai sausages. I carried that into missions in a steel thai 4 can holder. I put that into my rook sack and away I would go. I washed it down with my back up canteen filled with Jack, ice, coke cola. I would get so shit faced and the locals would have to bring me back to Fort Clark Air Force Base. In a sand pan or took took! Lol! The good old days! I loved going to little Saigon outside Manilla. Hoorah semper fi! The MRE's came out in 1982!
We first saw them in '81, I believe. We were the guinea pigs, I think. All generic and all mostly freeze dried, including sausage and hamburger. They changed that pretty quickly. TFW, Douglas!
My brother was stationed in ft Clark for a few years. I wish I could have afforded to go visit. His photos are beautiful. I think he was there from 86 to 89 maybe. Thanks for serving 🥰
Love watching you in Micah's (however it's spelled) videos. I came here from his frog and crawdad video.. So happy you have your own channel now. I love watching MRE videos too so this is just awesome!
I don't know what makes you braver to me. The fact that you served in Vietnam....or the fact that you're eating this!!! THANK YOU for your service! Thank you for these videos. Really enjoy watching!
Tim....I did not serve in Viet Nam. I was in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983. That was the only hostile place I toured, and that wasn't so bad while I was there. Other guys had it lots worse after I left in June of 1983. The C-Rats are Viet Nam era meals. TFW!
its beating a dead horse at this point but MRE's only had 12 menus until 96 then they started expanding the options meal no 17 beef teriyaki is circa 2003
So I thought Micah was a spitting image of you but looking at the younger marine photo I see you copy and pasted ace into the world LOL. Love all three of you guys. Keep up the good work guys!
I turned 21 in boot camp in 1980. I was one of the older guys in my platoon. Some folks think Asa looks more like me, others say Micah. My wife says we should have named Micah, Lynn Jr. because of his mannerisms being so much like mine. Tfw, Nikki!
Aside from the M&Ms looked like it held up pretty good. Awesome review. If your looking for some others to review older brown bags or Foreign MREs send me a email I can send some your way.
This shine and growth couldn’t come To a better dude he raised great Christian men served our country and he’s a fisherman he’s the man if I say so myself
I just recently started watching your channel. I have to admit you do an outstanding job of reviewing rations. My 9 yr old son and I have been reviewing for just short of a year now. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Just recently came to your channel love the content! And your son channels too! Its so cool for all of you to have a channel and them be so different! Love the vids keep it up. you really deserve more subs considering the amounts of content you make and the effort you put in!
I was so EXCITED for the notification of a new video from you!!! Your growing like crazy as you should!! Sending love from my home in NC to your home. As ALWAYS, Thank you for SERVING and PROTECTING our Country!!
Michael, I appreciate the sentiment, but Ace actually taught me about video. The general principles of business and life came from his mom (my wife) and I, but he did the video thing all on his own. Micah is doing the same. tfw
Love these videos! My buddy who is in the Guards brought an MRE camping and we all tried it. It tasted great! I will add that it was not "ancient" though. (See what I did there?)
I'm surprised that the M&M's were still good. Being inside that large inner package with all that extra air around them, I'd have thought that they might have gone rancid. Great video, God bless.
Excellent Video ! you actually know the Deal with eating in the field. alot of people and youtube testers always will say, " thats nasty" or "how can soldiers eat this cold"? I always think the same thing, ...... Spend a few nights,... or a week,... or a month, Humping a Ruck all day while living and sleeping in a swamp, or the frozen mountains , or the Desert, and that food tastes absolutely perfect . consumed every bit of it..so tired you can feel the calories hit the system' much of it eaten while on the move..., pound that peanut butter 5 hours into a "evening hike" .. eat / dip the dry coffee to stay alert at night. eat the creamer and sugar... dip chocolate brownie into dry beverage base powder and love it . eat coco beverage powder with a few drops of water making it chocolate frosting in which you dump cream cheese spread . Every bit of energy out of it. Taste doesnt really matter anymore. Best sht ever. I ate hundreds and hundreds of them.. After a few weeks / months in the bush /field, you get back to the rear with the gear and the beer and real food tastes like the greatest object ever to exist on Earth.. lol... after getting back to base ( stateside) , 4-5 of us Grunts would clean up, load into a cab, and hit "old country buffet" like sprung monkeys . Then, straight to the Bars. CHEERS ! CURRAHEE DMZ
You, sir, are obviously the real deal. Great to know you are watching the videos. I appreciate that and the input. In Beirut we were so starved of beer that we drank our beer room temperature from the can. As I recall, it was Stella Artois out of Belgium, but I could be wrong. I wasn't much of a beer drinker, but I did buy one occasionally. Then some generator guys hooked up an old refrigeration unit left by the Beirut Army and you could buy a cold beer as long as they lasted for twice the price. My recollection is that the warm beer (room temp was always at least 80 degrees) was 50 cents, the cold was $1.00. tfw!
Another great video and your granddaughter is adorable as well thank you for the content and wisdom you share with us young people it is very fun to watch you i really enjoyed learning about the john waynes you guys used
Zack, I appreciate the fact that you are watching. It's fun to recount experiences and tell others about them, especially when they seem to enjoy them.....tfw!
Glad to see you’re gaining a bit of ground. I love your reviews and the way you bring your own experiences into your videos. Keep up the great work. I look forward to many more videos!!
I really enjoy your videos! They make my day. God Bless You🙌🏻 And you are a brave brave man trying those really old mre's **I think the green pouch is to warm up the main dish** 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
