Long ago and far away, Cold Weather Training at FT. McCoy Wis. 1990. The MEB (Marine Expeditionary Brigade) made sure all Marines were issued a small version of a white gas Backpacking stove (Military Grade) That way all personnel could properly eat the Cold Weather MRE’s. Those of us Operating the AAV’s had the Personel heaters on the vehicle too heat water. Some of the Hummers (some) had decent heaters.
@@Butterworthdasyrup when I was transferred out too Pendleton I invested in a Coleman whisper lite. Now as a Scout Master my go too in winter is the MSR multi fuel and spring, summer and fall campouts it’s a pocket rocket from MSR or MSR’s version of a jet boil.
I loved how the younger one just randomly flipped the knife, that is absolutly illegal to carry around here in CH (strict laws for knifes, handable with 1 hand only) and used it as a bottle opener 😂 - like .. I just would've force with the 'use cloth within' technique but nah. He used some swag. 😂 Can't get over it. - also, would be interesting to know what the 'arctic day-meal' in a whole looks like. The whole thing for a day. But as always, thank you for the video, I love this series so much and it brightens up my day. (Sorry for language-errors.) 🎉
the one thing i have learned is all the artic mre's main entrees are freezedried & made by mountain house. the objective here was to cut down on the wet weight carried by a soldier. have had the freeze dried 'camping' version, an i agree with the kids opion. the texture on the scrambled eggs leaves much tobe desired.
I've seen the Arctic MRE in cases in storage once....but also, Mountain House is the best! They're based in Albany, Oregon at Oregon FreezeDry. That menu didn't look bad at all. I would eat it for sure. The Raisin Nut Mix is definitely a last ditch snack for my guys and I when we get them, the get ditched into a spare empty MRE bag hidden in the back of the track.

In the Artic if your in the rear with the gear the water bulls have immersion heaters in them. We were also issued small camp stoves so we had access to hot water.
Instead of a white board do it like old Top Gear had and instead of scores have a sheet of metal with magnetic strips on it with the name of the MRE on it. - The MRE leaderboard.
I think instead of doing points you have them on the board (or flags on the board etc) and you have to place the new MRE in the chart where it belongs for example better than German but worse than Finnish etc. So we dont have to give a number or remember a number just will know which is best as they will be in order best to worst etc.
C Co. 4/9 IN out of Ft. Wainwright 91-94. Very nostalgic. As far as access to hot water, I'm going to second the Marine in one of the other comments. Most of us usually had a liquid fuel backpacking stove (Coleman, et.al...), the LOGPACs usually brought up white gas for them.
I was a cook in the army and my first duty station was ft. Drum New York and that wasn’t how we did eggs. We also had a fresh omelette station. It’s been a minute since I’ve been out so it might of changed.
you should subjugate your Sous-chef to the veggie omlette, that one even with the tobasco that came with it made it worse i could say that is a -1 for me, my top fave even from the 90's mre hands down was the best was the chicken ala king plus Ranger bar if anyone remembers that, its not like the ones they get now but the 90's version.
Subject your newbie to the dreaded “vomilete” as a rite of passage. I hated that meal, the cider that came in it was the only decent part of that meal. And a yes to a rating board, kinda a like the old Top Gear board for fastest lap. It was on magnets and could bump around if something needed moving.

@stevencorey7702 I recently bought a bunch of the old Canadian military arctic boots and sold them to Americans who cosplay as Snowtroopers from The Empire Strikes Back. I kept a pair for myself because there was the equivalent of a woman's size 7. What a struggle to put them on though!

Wait. MRE coffee does something for you?!? Seriously? Im from Europe and the MRE coffee packages are *the* worst item since i bet they contain zero % caffeine. Nobody ever got effects of it. Yet it keeps you awake over in the US? What am i missing here?
