The chocolate shop where my sister used to live outside of Chicago made “deviled eggs“: a white chocolate egg half topped with a peanut butter/white chocolate/rice crispy deviled yolk. They were awesome!
I’ve been gifted the aubergine ‘egg’ and my carer thought it had aubergine actually in it, because it being vegan and “they always do weird things to vegan stuff” 🤣
SORTEDfood can’t eat it yet- it’s not Easter! (Also can’t eat anything atm as my stomach isn’t working but just means I actually manage to save some eggs for Easter this year, or I’ll find a way to get it down an NJ tube? 🤣)
I was going to get that one for my vegan grandma. Hope you get chance to eat it. I couldn't eat solids for a year when I was a kid (had to have those gross shakes) and it sucked.
Violet None Of Your Business it looks really nice in the package so I’m sure your grandma would love it! Hotel chocolat have some really cute mini chocolate eggs that are vegan too if you’re looking for something to go with it. I can’t keep any food or drink down atm, just came out of a 6 week hospital stay and still no better so back in tomorrow for who knows how long?! I’m so fed up of throwing up constantly it sucks. How come you couldn’t eat? Those shakes are grim, they’ve tried me on them before but I just threw them back up.
@@alexdavis5766 those eggs sound really nice I'll definitely check them out! had chronic pain since I was 7 and when I was 8 it spread to my throat and the pain was so bad swallowing solids felt like eating glass. Eventually I got used to it and figured out how to eat but I still have to swallow food down with water or it really hurts. Sorry about having to go in and out of hospital it is the worst.
This is an interesting statement, how big of an egg do you get for... i dont have they key on my keyboard lmao. how many grams is the egg you get for 5 euros?
Goes to show how far we have come from the reasons for the holiday. The shape of the chocolate was only very loosely tied to the reason and now we want to remove that.
Pretty offensive imo to insinuate Easter is/should/could be primarily about celebrating chocolate. Guess we've been trending towards "how much material crap can I accumulate" on Christmas for a while as well though.
I saw a special on cocoa. The workers that pick the pods and most of the farmers have no idea what chocolate actually is. They were amazed when the guy doing the special gave them a chocolate bar. It was really interesting
And im sadly disappointed in Jamie's like "wow, that's fascinating" when we're talking about modern slavery and child labor. But they get it, it's why they tacked on dark sugars at the end there
You, and the other commenters, should read the entire story. Like said in the video, due to upscaling they started a partnership with a Belgian multinational to use their factories for processing their product. That multinational also processes chocolate that is not slave-free, causing Tony's to lose their listing on the slave free chocolate list. However, Tony's own product is still 100% slave free as all routes for their chocolate are traced and action is undertaken whenever slavery is detected. They were planning to open their own factory but had to postpone due to COVID.
@@gikiryu But to claim they are working from within is the BS part. No, they're just content with being able to stay afloat during covid and can't find a better company to work with. They might be slave free, but why continue to work with a company that prevents you from being listed as slave free? Maybe scale down until you can find a better company to work with that isn't associated with slaves. They made a business decision and are using the best PR terms to make it sound so proactive and good.
Love that you also mentioned the criticism Tony’s had been having lately. Being Dutch I’ve known the company from its inception on Keuringsdienst van Waarde (a Dutch consumers tv program about food). It’s sad to see that they’ve drifted away from what they were at the start: a company that made fully slave free chocolate. With every expansion, they also increase their compromise. They’ve gone from slave free to slave free as far as we know to on the way to slave free. Right now I feel like they’re on the tipping point between making a difference and just selling expensive chocolate.
I have to agree, the comment we will change things from the inside is what many large companies have said about the appalling conditions in their factories and things often haven't improved.
@@rationalbacon5872 Maybe because I don't directly contribute to said government's profit via my purchases? Or maybe because I have exactly zero ways to influence said governments - unlike certain rich chocolate buyers, whose decision to blacklist a country can influence governments to enact better policies? Or maybe I recognise the only way exploitation really stops is when folks have enough money to refuse exploitative employment - and the only way that happens is fair trade practices? Or maybe I can hold critical opinions of multiple entities and not feel the need to provide an exhaustive list every time I criticize one entity?
Just want to say thanks guys for going the extra mile to have actual captions available instead of the horrid automatic ones. I'm not even hard of hearing, but am often not in a position to have good audio, so I typically have captions on to help and on most videos across youtube it's pretty bad.
Agreed. It's a great step forward. Although youtubes removal of community captions for non English languages was a travesty and a massive leap in the wrong direction. No youtubers ever make captions for my native language And queue all the racist comments from people going "just learn English" 🙄
Aldi is the only supermarket I shop at now. I've done my main shopping there for years and only used ASDA for things Aldi didn't have. Our local ASDA went overboard with the CV19 rules, even stopping people who were exempt from mask wearing from shopping there, forcing people to stand in the freezing cold or waiting in their cars until THEY decided they could come in. If Aldi doesn't have something I want, then our local shop usually has it - or will get it for me. Even after all this CV19 is over, I will never shop in ASDA again. Same goes for Tesco, Sainsburys (overpriced anyway) or Morrisons (also overpriced and poor quality). I like Aldi chocolate. Even the cheap bars are nice. Must try one of these Ruby eggs - that's IF they still have them. Great to see Aldi put on the map for quality and affordable price.
I’m not sure if Aus Aldi is different to uk Aldi but they have a really lovely milk chocolate and caramel block. The chocolate is super smooth and the caramel is a fantastic texture and isn’t cloyingly sweet or over powering. Plus I am hoping that they have the ruby chocolate egg here as well lol
@@fallensway855 I've seen that here in the UK but I'm not a lover of chocolate caramel so I haven't tried it. However, my adult son is so next time we're in Aldi I'm sure he'll be happy to give it a try. I like their mint filled chocolate bar. Reminds me of the Cadbury's one from when I was a child.
Love that you showed an aldi product as so many videos out there like these only show your Waitrose or M&S! Its why i love you guys so much had so many years of video enjoyment from you Fyi - Jamie looks too comfortable in that costume 🤣
i remember back when sorted got their first #spon and they didn't realize it needed to be disclosed in the video. one thing that has always separated sorted from other cooking channels is how much they truly do value and incorporate their subscribers' input. i don't think there's ever been a single issue about transparency since that very first ad, they always make it clear when they're sponsored, and when they're not. gotta love the costumes too, half expected mike or james to pop out in a bunny costume to attack barry lmao
Found you guys after having my oldest son 5 years ago. He and I LOVE your videos. Now I get to enjoy them with my youngest son and he gets to become a part of the Sorted community!!! Love you guys so much. Thank you for the years of amazing content
Okay, that ending was hysterical "You've had that same haircut for the 25 years since I've known you" and Ben's "Well I'm gonna blame lockdown" just so gosh darn funny. Would love to see you all video your haircut when you can finally make it to the salon.
Having an Aldi egg in this has reinvigorated my want for you guys to shop in Lidl/Aldi and make meals on a full-on budget for all ingredients (no buying a spoons worth etc)
As a Dutchie I'm happy to see Tony's ChocoLonely on here, if anything - try the chocolatemilk too :) But guys, talking Dutch here, how about you guys' take on our "kroketten" and make some of your own!
It is actually interesting that Barry's gut reaction to the Easter egg sandwich was that it was a fun little thing but his reaction to the vegan egg plant was "I don't like the shape. Why not just make an egg?"
13:48 Ben: "Well it did make us wonder, does Easter have to be all about eggs, or can it just be about quality chocolate?" Jesus: *cough* *cough* "Hello?" Ēostre: *cough* *cough* "What?"
This made me realize how expensive American Easter is. I could have easily spent $20 on that eggplant Just googled it the Hotel Chocolat sandwich is $20US 😭
WOW! Watching a giant chicken take a large pink egg and drop it multiple times just to ‘break it’ made me laugh out loud! But watching an conversation about sourcing chocolate between a chef and a man-carrot, was Hysterical! I will never forget this day ! Thank You SORTEDFOOD !
That blooper... makes me realize just how genuine of friends they are. Like yes it shows on camera, but it is such a joy to see them all enjoying time together and just having fun. 25 years???? Gives me hope for me and my friends lol
Poor Barry can't catch a break with the quotes - 'feeling his way around' a sandwich that looks like it's been impaled by a yolky nipple. :') This was great fun to watch, guys. I'm not from a country that does eggs, but that might change for my household now! Also appreciate the consistent attention to sourcing and sustainability. We love to see it x
I'm so glad you featured Tony's Chocolonely - it's my brand of choice and I love their mission. I feel like most people do not know about them, here in America and I keep trying to spread the word among people I know.
So did they read that weird or is their 'mission' using a slave worked factory but claiming they're totally going to make them change eventually because that sounds like...a huge lie...
@@shotgunbadger Yeah, I don't understand why that didn't immediately put them off it if they were looking for ethical chocolate. Sounds exactly like what the huge multinationals say when they're caught. "uhhhh, yeah we're totally trying to change things from within, by using cheap slave labour to produce our overpriced product.
@@shotgunbadger it's not a slave-worked factory, it's a factory that makes products for other chocolate companies that are not slave-free, which is quite different!
I really appreciated the thought of moving away from novelty towards supporting better businesses. I don't celebrate Easter but could get behind gifting things that are quality and meaningful.
The entire time the guys were talking about Aldi I could've sworn they were saying 'Audi', and I was like 'yeah, why not have a car manufacturer make pink eggs, I've seen weirder things'. Glad Ben explained what they were actually saying.
Tony is going to have a Charlie and the chocolate factory type of factory in the Netherlands. Which you will be able to visit and see “fun” stuff with chocolate.
I love hearing the differences between how things are pronounced in the UK vs US. It took me a minute to realize you were saying Aldi because in the US we pronounce it “ALL-DEE”. Great vid guys!
Takes me back to Easter as a child with all the novelty shaped chocolates! I’m from the US and my faves were always the Reese’s eggs and See’s Candy dark chocolate bunny :) it was my fave holiday as a kid!
I really love that when you find a company that has a mission or some strong values you delve into those and it really shows that you do alot of research around the brands you want to try
"Or could we dedicate 20% of our cloche lifting to just quality exquisite chocolate...." As a chocoholic I would watch 100% of cloche lifting dedicated to the highest quality chocolates.
Like Ebbers “I’m blaming lockdown” is my go to phrase for everything from weight gain to missed deadlines. I also think it’s going to be a go to term in a lot of criminal cases - I wasn’t gonna rob the bank but you know... lockdown 🤷♀️
Man, the Ruby chocolate one, I was convinced they were saying Audi the *whole* time! Questioning "Where's the branding?" up until Ben said "Audi is one of the more affordable *supermarkets* in the UK". It's ALDI for anyone wondering (al-dee) :)
I have had a massive throwback weekend this week because I was watching back all of your old videos and I've honestly had the time of my life! Thank you so so so much for everything you do, you bring me so much joy. Me an my boyfriend look forward to your videos every week, you are the one channel we actually watch together hehe. Have a great sunday evening!
Re: the ruby chocolate egg - the brand, Moser Roth, makes some of my favourite chocolate. They make small chocolate bars in a lot of flavours that I like to have at home for a little dessert or with a cup of coffee or tea. Aldi (called Hofer here) has really great quality in my opinion. At least in Austria we get lots of local and also organic produce and their own brands easily compete with more expensive ones.
Can totally confirm! Love Moser Roth chocolates, I could eat a whole bar in minutes - maybe I will just because easter is a great excuse! (A neighbour from Hungary)
It’s great that you guys are able to provide info about the brands and their missions, and also make it a point to talk about the negatives/abuses that occur in the industries too.
The expensive box is easy more than I would spend typically but, maybe for a special occasion I might spring for it. I do like the lack of plastic in the Ruby one as well
Aldi is very regional usually. In Germany, which is the origin country of Aldi, we even have Aldi Nord in northern Germany and Aldi Süd in the southern parts. Big parts of what they're selling being different and even a differently colored Banner... Very weird store lol
Now I'm excited about filled easter eggs. In Switzerland we gift chocolate bunnies mostly, in a basket with lots of small chocolate eggs. We personally go to our very local organic chocolatier to get Our selection as we eat little chocolate and don't want to compromise quality, as well as get our toddlers taste acostumed . I also usually get a small pack of kinder eggs for our inner child.
That last one was a stretch. It'd fit just as easily at Christmas or Valentine's. EDIT: It was nice to see them getting back to their roots and dressing up. lol
We always went to my Aunties for Easter Sunday Ham , she would have for each of us an Egg that had our names in them in icing , one of my best memories. These came from Woolworths Department Store which has been closed for many years . The chocolate wasn’t of the best quality but the love that went into doing this was . Some years over 25 people were at the table .
thrilled that you guys are so committed to talking about real issues in the food world and not JUST doing the jokes and costumes. would love to see a video about the stereotypes and food waste that occurs around offal - organ meats can be so beautiful but theres so much negativity around the less marketable types.
We have Aldi in the US, it's quite different from the Euro Aldi, we may not see those Ruby Eggs here Also keep forgetting, the 'new' egg cracking intro is excellent, always quality sound production
@@ilsahartley5333 It's white chocolate that in making is heated higher for longer, and stirred constantly, which caremelises it. I absolutely love the stuff, but M&S are the only main seller I've found in the UK. It is to die for though!
Tbh the best part about Easter is going round the supermarkets the day after to catch all the superdiscounted chocolate (Maybe not this year though, unless you're already out for your shopping)
The Tony's thing is odd to me. It totally makes sense to improve the process from within. Don't just say people should be paid more; be the buyer who does it. It's the most admirable way. However, they're also pretty preachy. In a way that makes me wonder if they wouldn't be the first ones to point the finger at another company if it was trying to "improve from within".
Tony's will change the practice of slave labour in the same way Nike has in China. Once these companies have been caught out they repeat the same mantra. I was about to look them up with a view to making a purchase, until the lads mentioned the issue with the factory.
