I have one Early Girl plant growing on my cattle panel trellis and it has two small melons growing on it. Based on your taste review I bet these will be really good when mature! I'm definitely going to save the seeds. This was the last plant the nursery had of this variety.

Hi, the key is knowing when it’s ripe. The main stem coming off the watermelon 🍉 will have a tendril. When that dies and turns brown the watermelon is ripe. However, when your watermelon is almost ripe a large rainstorm can cause it to split so you have to check for ripeness often. Hope tat helps. I grow this melon every year.

I'm thinking of growing the Early Girl this summer along with Lemon Drop. About how long is the vine length? I grow them in containers up a net trellis.

My vines got to about 6 feet long. The taste on these early girl melons 🍉 was great and they hung on the trellis without a sling or extra support.
