I'll be on another adventure and without phone service for a bit. I tried to reply every comment prior to my cut off of service. So when I get back I'll reply to the rest of the comments. Mahalo!
I am the owner of Sunrise Restaurant. Thank you for featuring us on youtube. Thank you very much. A customer who came today came to see your youtube. Please continue to introduce us to many dishes from around the world. I pray for your safty trip!
Oh I'm so glad someone actually came to your restaurant to check it out. You make very tasty food for a reasonable price. Thank you for all your hard work!
Aloha Misty! Trying to catch up with our our favorite RU-vidrs. Absolutely love this Food Tour and how O’ahu has such a great variety of cultures from all around the world. Definitely a more affordable adventure than physically traveling to all the regions you showcased. Of course we added spots to our never ending list! Mahalo nui for another delicious foodie adventure!! Happy Aloha Friday from the mainland!! 🤙🏽
Aloha Michelle & Jose! Thanks for catching up! I need to catch up as well, since I haven't been home for a while and just got in the other day. Sometimes I wake up and wonder where the heck I am since I've been traveling so much. LOL. Yes please try these. I really enjoyed Tia's! Have a wonderful weekend!
Food is such a great way to experience a culture. Great idea for a video as we can try these foods right here if we can't travel! They all looked interesting, especially Mimi's Peruvian Cuisine, looking forward to trying👌.
Aloha Misty ! We Love Okinawan foods ! I have a Son who lives there ! He is a retired Chief in the Navy & currently a Pastor for Neighborhood Church there ! Wow Peruvian Foods ! A must try ! Interesting Nigerian foods ! Spices ,Oxtail & Jerk Chicken interesting flavors & meats ! OK Samoan foods ! Plate Lunches ! Delicious ! Mahalo Misty for sharing !
Finally got around to finishing your video! Had to put it hold for a bit. Was doing dinner. Great video by the way. Enjoy your trip, Aiden looks like he having fun!
The Okinawan Sunrise restaurant sounds like a hidden gem. The name doesn’t hint its Okinawan cuisine so it’s nice you bring awareness to these places. It’s nice to find a variety of cuisines on Oahu. I like how you zoom in the map to take us around the world. I never knew about Samoan pastries. Wowee! Wowee! Black coffee and the panipopo would make a great breakfast! I bet the Nigerian spices excites the tastebuds. Sure wish they had a cooking channel. Thanks for bringing awareness to these places and since parking is scarce, good hint to be dropped off and go around the block couple times. 🤙
Yes Sunrise is an interesting name and I would never think it was Okinawan just passing by. The zoom is thanks to Google Earth 🤣 The Samoan pastries would go so well with black coffee in the morning!
A great theme! I was recently at Pearlridge and saw Enchanted by Aloha. I was curious about the fufu but wasn’t quite ready to try something so flavorful at the time. I’m glad you featured her truck! Mimi’s also looks interesting. Those pastries are Tia’s look wonderful, and I’ll have to visit Sunrise again. >^.^
Thank you! Yes try it out. It was very heavy on flavor but the fufu was really like mochi. Tia's was my favorite put of all of them. I need to go back again!
Whoa Sunrise! I ate there a couple times when I worked out that side. Has Mimi's been there long? I don't remember seeing it when I worked out that side. Enchanted looks interesting and so does Tia's. Gonna have to try them.
Aloha Misty: It was great to view this vlog this afternoon. I enjoyed seeing the variety of the different cultures dining options available on Oahu. You did a great job on this vlog presenting the vlog. The half-moon Samoan pastry brought back a lot of great memories of Tuli's Market, on Vineyard Blvd., near Mayor Wright Homes. I hope everyone enjoyed the variety of cuisines. I am looking forward to the next vlog. Best wishes to you, Aiden, and friends! Much aloha and regards, fellow 🐯!
Mahalo Bill! I hope you had a great week. I've never been to Tuli's Market but sounds so familiar. Thank you for watching and sorry for the late response and we just finished our cruise. Have a great weekend!
Hi Misty . Great combo of restaurants / food truck 🍽️! 2:00 we don’t have 24oz cans of beer here, you guys are lucky 🍺 ! Mimi’s Peruvian, I like the idea of sharing as you would in Chinese restaurants. Your dessert came out in a plastic container, which I thought was odd. So obviously it can be food to go. Enchanted by Aloha food truck you hit the nail on the head about checking when they are open, but it’s about nearly all food trucks on Oahu. Visitors like me , really need to research before heading out 👀 As you said “Don’t be scared, it is Delicious” to try something different. Tia’s , 23:08 I noticed Water for $1 dollar , it must be the only place on earth to sell water for 1 dollar ..lol But what interesting plate food , it’s like entree , main and dessert on one plate 😋then you bring out more dessert. That pineapple thing , when you said WOW took me right back to how delicious your pineapples are on Oahu. Here in Australia our pineapples are no where near as sweet. It’s got to be the volcanic soils there that make your pineapples almost lolly like 👍 It’s a credit to you, that you show these restaurants all over Oahu that most people would not give a second thought. Cheers Rod 🤙
Aw no 24 oz cans? Those are actually kinda ghetto lol. I am in Florida now and bought 16 oz cans thinking it was a 12 oz 6 pack. Strange. The desserts are packed in plastic containers and set out for display in a glass top refrigerator with their drinks. There were 2 couples that came in for take out so maybe she also does that for the take out folks. I'm not sure if the pineapple they're using is from here or canned but it was very nicely done for the pie. Omg. All the desserts were great. Thanks for your wonderful thoughtful comments Rod. 🤙❤️
Misty, this was a great vdo to introduce viewers and locals to other world cuisines on the island. The food at Mimi's Peruvian looked legit and delish. I was salivating at the seafood ceviche. At Tia's Samoa, I would love to try their lamb curry, lamb cooked in taro leaves and meat pies. Yum 😋😋
You got me at the very end with that panipopo! Good camera work on it! How did it compare to Tammy's? I've been to Tammy's since it's out in Waipahu, close to where I live. Love Okinawan food, too, especially goya champuru. On my last visit to Okinawa, I had it every morning at the breakfast buffet!
Aloha. I loved Tammy's but I think the cuts here were thicker for the corned beef. And of course the plate was cheaper since it wasn't by the weight. I got two cuts. I saved one for lunch the next day. Both are tasty but Tia's is cheaper and you get a side of sapasui. And the desserts are better.
Hi sista. Debbie's grandfather made the best winter melon & pork. I miss that. It's hard to find good winter melon here. Never been to sunrise, looks ono. Peruvian food is awesome. We have a friend Percy from Peru. He makes awesome food. Take care Misty and thank you for your prayers for our daughter.
Aloha Mark! I would assume it would be hard to find winter melon in the mainland for sure! That is great that you have a Peruvian friend that can cook awesome food! I love Peruvian food. 🤙
Lomo saltado smothered in aji verde is one of my favorite things to eat. I've never had Samoan food but will definitely try it. Thanks for that international food tour. 😋
Yes it was massive. I really would like to go back one day, which is rare for me to return to a restaurant since I am so busy finding new ones to film. I really loved the food at Tia's and the pastries!
Awesome food travel. Would like to try Peruvian and African... Try out Heaven's Soul food truck (soul food)now at pearlridge same place. Gotta try their homemade peach pie ala mode. Thanks again Misty😊
Aloha! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try the sound food. Always down. Do you know when they're there? Only had the Nigerian truck, Leonard's, the birria truck and a carribean one that day.
:) THANKS MUCH for sharing! WHo would have thought you had such a VARIETY of foods on the Island! I would go for the Peruvian Arroz Con Pollo, reminds me of it in Peurto Rico, and Santo Domingo in DR:) ALL the BEST and Yummmmmmmmmmm! ENJOY ! Cheers :)
it's the middle of june 2024 I'll be going there tomorrow. I used to work in Kalihi Police Station back in the 70's & 80's I never tried Samoan food though I policed KPT, Kalihi Valley homes, and used to pass that supermarket off School Street but never tried any of the food. I did attend a community party once and had some Samoan cooking and didn't really like it. You convinced me to try!
@@FoodFiend 23yrs retired! Thanks. I think I commented earlier that I just this year moved out of my comfort zone in Kapolei to try restaurants I never heard of thanks to food vloggers and esp. your channel.
@@FoodFiend I thought I picked up that you were also HPD in one of your vids you greeted a cop who recognized you. For me, it makes your vids even better! Haw!
My Japanese American tennis buddy and I used to go to this small Japanese restaurant in San Marcos California for lunch. They had grilled mackerel. They were awesome. Their mackerel is nothing like the mackerel I used to catch on the party fishing boats in San Diego.they were awesome. Then we used to go to this other Japanese restaraunt in Oceanside to eat some ramen. They didn’t have saimin but I believe the people who ran the place were from Hawaii. The food was very ono and the restaurant was always packed. Half of the restaurant goers were Haole.
@@FoodFiend thank you. I’m glad you like my story. I enjoy your videos very much. They remind me of my years being raised in Hawaii long long time ago. Keep them coming. I miss home a lot.
Nice selection. I have a good friend in CA that is Chinese but she and her family is from Peru, and I can agree, Peruvian food is delicious and yes, a big Chinese influence there. That Nigerian soup-stew dish looked so flavorful. Whoa! Lol. I'm so old school, I don't do Venmo but hope cash works.
😊i wanna try Tia's after watching your video. Saw another food vlogger from the mainland who came w/ wife and stopped @ Tia's. I'll try & get there soon I hope😊 wanna try her baked items
@@FoodFiend My mom told me Okinawan 'soba' is different from the Japanese version. To me: Soba is Soba. During a trip to Okinawa in Oct. 23, I ordered it (there were so many various combinations) Anyways... It was 'different' and Ono'licious ! "Chifa": Google it ! 😀
When you mentioned "ceviche" my thought line went to Tahitian poisson cru. Think, dulce de leches is Latino version of creme brulée, brown sugar is toasted atop of egg custard. If am not mistaken, Samoan family opened restaurant, couple doors from CPB, maybe 2014-15?(Wow, didn't realize was that long ago!)-lol. They didn't last too long either, maybe 30-36mos. Been meaning to checkout Enchanted by Aloha. Cuisine looks interesting...Stay Aloha, Misty
Ah! I love poisson cru. But for me, ceviche I think Mexican food. I liked the dolce de leches. But not a flan person. The Nigerian food is quite pricey but I made 2 meals out of it and added rice for my lunch the next day. I think the other Samoan food place maybe didn't last because of parking issues? Never noticed it while passing by on King.
@@FoodFiend...Sorry, Samoan food store was next door to CPB Wahiawa. Have seen too many businesses tank in that complex. Think it's low visibility/foot traffic & high space rental prices. Latest casualty was JP Spaghetti, operated since 1997. Sad, really. All preventable "casualties"
Don't be dissing Pabst or southerners. Pabst is a good lager with a long history originating in Chicago then moving to Milwaukee using the Pabst family name from Germany. It good beer and has won many awards and us consumed by good people all over the world. And maybe you aren't aware of the genetic alteration in 14% of people that makes cilantro taste like soap. I love your channel.
