It is not a matter of controversy whether Porsche plagiarised Tatra when he "designed" the VW Beetle. This issue was settled in a court of law in the 1960s and this is how we know that Porsche did indeed plagiarise Tatra.

@Arjen Zwamborn Got this sort of highway here now: the Pacific Hwy 1 from Brisbane to Gold Coast City in Australia is mostly concrete panels and goes thump thump for miles. Very tedious to drive on, and I do most days.
@Pyrochemik007
@Pyrochemik007 4 года назад
@ It was not marketing, the car was capable of these speeds - if the road allowed them. It had the typical tatra´s chassis, which allowed every wheel to spring individualy, thus giving it great stability on uneven, bumpy roads. It had big flaws connected to engine placement - no back view, and center of gravity in the back, which made it bad in turning, you had to really slow down. That was unknown at the time, all nowadays cars have engines in front.
@tonymaries1652
@tonymaries1652 2 года назад
@@Pyrochemik007 The rear engine was an effort to increase space inside the vehicle and reduce weight. Engine in front, and drive on the rear axle means you have a transmission tunnel through the passenger cabin and a live axle below the rear passenger seats, which reduces the space inside. The Tatra is huge inside compared to most larger British cars of the period. Front engine and front wheel drive is universal today but it means that you have to have flexible drive shafts to allow the front wheels to steer. Citroen did it in the 1930s with the Light 15 but the drive shafts weren't particularly long-lived.

Tatra made the most advanced cars in his heyday. " It is ranked among the fastest production cars of its time. Competing cars in this class, however, used engines with almost twice the volume, and with fuel consumption of 20 liters per 100 km (11.8 mpg). Thanks to its aerodynamic shape, the Tatra 87 had a consumption of just 12.5 litres per 100 km (18.8 mpg). " Wikipedia

It would be nice to think that except for wouldn't anyone nazi or not have had problems driving at speed? They would and did as the 87 revised the suspension. This fits nicely in the nice story file not so much the proven fact. Ironically considering the subject matter it comes off more like propaganda. Every article sounds like it had the same source and none quote numbers.

As to below, the word is not "plagiarized" but more at Copyright infringement, and a court lawsuit which Tatra won against VW. Also, 12.2 litres of fuel to travel 100 KM is about 19.3 MPG, not particularly terrific, but not bad for 1936 and an air-cooled V8. .
@trijezdci4588
@trijezdci4588 3 года назад
Quite the opposite. Copyright infringement only refers to publishing, that is documents, fotos, sketches, cartoons and the like. Plagiarism applies to any kind of intellectual property theft.
@trijezdci4588
@trijezdci4588 3 года назад
Also, copyright can only be infringed when there is copyright. You could not infringe of Beethoven's works because there is no copyright on music that far back in history. But you can nevertheless plagiarise Beethoven's music. Plagiarism is any kind of taking somebody else's work and passing it off as your own. Even when there is no copyright on the work.

Every source on the internet says the tatra is about 0.22 Cd. That is not remotely possible. This video says 0.36 -- finally someone has a feasible number. Say you don't have a Tatra to test. Add a pointy, long rear to the classic Beetle, test it in a wind tunnel, and you'll likely see Tatra-like interaction with the air stream.

Tatra was an Austro-German company. Look it up, the company was located in an area mainly populated by Germans. The engineers were also German. One of them left in 1941 and the other one was imprisoned in the Benes-Era for being a "Nazi" (German) and was expelled afterwards.

the founder and owner of the company was ethnic Czech(Ignác Šustala), the area of Koprivnice was multiethnic:Czech,Germans,Jews,Poles and this was reflected in the workforce which includes engineers. The company was indeed 'Czech' in the territorial sense, and was not 'ethnically' defined.
