Hi and Welcome Back to The Kneady Homesteader Channel, where today, I will be showing you how I pressure can russet potatoes using Tattler reusable canning lids. In a time of canning equipment shortages, including button top lids, having Tattlers around brings me a sense of security that I can keep food on my pantry shelves, no matter what. As always, this is just the way that I pressure can potatoes using Tattler lids....use my video as inspiration and not as a "how to". If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them down below in the comment section and I will try my very best to answer them for you.

I have had 2 boxes of Tattler that I have not even opened because I didnt know how to use them, see comments they dont work or see videos where they open the canner to a busted jar. Thank you so much for showing the right way. Your way to make the potatoes with the soup mix looks very good. Prayers to your family as you go through this time of grief.

First of all I want to say that I hope you and your children are doing better. I think about you and your children often and when I do I ask God to help and bless you and your children. I have been watching your videos for awhile and just love them and you. My husband pulled up some beautiful Yukon gold potatoes yesterday. So I canned them with your recipe and they came out beautiful. I canned 5 quarts, this is the only way I will ever can potatoes again. You are a beautiful lady and I love your videos. Tattler lids are still owned by Loren Stieg & he's always owned the company. Harvest Guard is owned by Loren's son, Brad Stieg. Brad used to be part of the Tattler company, Brad & Loren disagreed on business decisions so Brad sold out his share. After his non compete clause ran out he started Harvest Guard.

As for me because of things I have watched and read and researched, I use Weck Jars for my canning only. I use Ball jars for dehydrated food or food that can be stored without heating up at all such as salt and spices. BPA free doesn't, to me, mean safer. I realize that getting away from plastic is hard, but i keep trying.

Thank you for the info! I ordered 24 dozen Tattler lids a week ago. I'm just not happy with the "new" Ball metal lids, with a suggested storage life of only 18 months. They are thinner metal, and the "rubber" sealing gasket in them is clearly not as robust as the old Ball lids. I appreciate your four year and ongoing experiment with the Tattler lid. I have a similar (accidental) experiment with the old Ball lids, as a box of full jars ended up in the back of the wrong shelf. These jars were canned in 1999 with the old Ball lids and are ALL still intact! There are jars with tomatoes, green beans, and venison chunks still perfectly sealed and looking good! I don't believe the newer lids can come close to this and am excited about the Tattler lids.

Heather, FYI the Harvest Guard lids come in white and red so if you are weird about using yours for meats you might be able to have designated red lids for meats so you know which is which. I haven't canned meat yet but that is what I was considering. Based on the material they are made from I can't imagine it would be any less safe than storing meat in plastic Tupperware type containers and then reusing them or cooking meat in microwave bowls that are reusable. Just my thoughts.

Thank you so much for all this info. I sincerely appreciate how you take your time and explain everything. -- Toward the end of this vlog you talked about not liking to put labels on your jars, and we have that in common. A TIP: I found that my canning pantry does not have tons of new addition items and I keep a pretty BIG pantry. With that said what I found SUPER easy for me to keep organized is good old masking tape. I write the names of the items on the tape and then place that on the front (facing) part of the shelves. My jars and items are then placed in rows and are rotated back to front and as I put new items in I place them in the back and pull from the front. Simple TIP but it will save writing labels on your jars and I hope it helps. BIG HUGS and thank you again. *runs to find a local location that sells Tattler lids* hehehe :)
