One other tip, mark the red ring with a small sharpie line on the up side next to the white lid every time you use the red rubber ring. Then you will always know how many times you use the red rubber ring.
@@TheKneadyHomesteader I noticed you wrote on the lids with a marker. Does the marker come off of the lids easily for re-use? Also that 1870’s homestead mentioned she had more seal failure with pressure canning than water boil caning w/tattler. Have you experienced that? Thanks so much! Love your channel 💕
There remind me of the rings my grandmother used with her old mason jars.......I may have to try some of those and think of my Grandmother while using them.....
My mother used them i used them for awhile but i dont can anthing any more. Getting tooo old lol! They have glass lids the old ones. My jars have dates from the 1940's and 1950's but the metal rings would not fit on the normal style of mason jar. The metal rings were designed for the glass lids and rubber rings only.
So glad your order arrived. I talked to Dee on the phone Monday she called me to tell me my order was being shipped. Amazing company. P.s. I learned the other day that Mr clean magic eraser easily takes off Sharpe marker for labeling lids. Thought you might want to share info. Great video
I love your videos. You are so inspiring.I have prayed for you and your family as well. I just watched a video from @Homestead Heart from a week ago, where Walmart removed whole canning section. I remember this video of yours, and just place a big order of Tattler lids. God Bless you. Thank you for all the time you take to teach everyone.
Have never heard of tattler lids. I may need to give these a try. I do put up jars for gifts so the metal lids are still a must. Maybe the shortage will end this year. Thanks Heather. God Bless you!
So I had a good idea! I also bought an extra set of the cardboard tubes and thought it would be a great way to store the used seals. I'll put a tally mark each time I change the tubes over. And have one set for new ones. I was gonna have them for back ups and then thought this way I can keep up with how many times I've used them so I don't have to mark the seals. I was gonna post a pic but I don't know how.😂
on those storage tubes, Keep an eye on the gaskets. It is possible that over time the gaskets being exposed to air might start to dry out and crack. It just depends on what they are made of but I would be watching carefully to be sure.
I just placed another order from Tattler just to get the gasket holders. :) I ordered the bulk mix of both wide/regular lids/gaskets. I have been using them for over a year but always mixed regular lids with the Tattler's just to be safe in case they all failed. Now the hard part is waiting three weeks to get them.
I used my Harvest Guard lids (knockoff of Tattlers) yesterday (Saturday). They were just delivered Friday. I ordered 50 reg and 50 wide.My first time to use these. Canned 14 quarts chicken/chicken meals in a jar. EVERY ONE sealed! I was so happy. I got these lids due to the lid famine. Glad I did. Now what to do about the jar famine. lol
I just ordered some harvest guard lids back in September and they are extremely backed up. Hopefully they can get caught up soon. I ordered a tattler sampler pack a few weeks ago and I like them. I will be making another order from tattler soon. I will probably invest into both brands. I’ve heard alot of good reviews about both of them and I’ve also heard they are both made by the same family.
Just ordered 150 lids and rings through your link. Hope they give you credit somehow ☺️ hope you’re having a good day! Really appreciate all your videos that are so full of great info, I’ve learned a lot!
Thank you for your canning vids and reviews! It is so helpful to see Tattlers in the wild. ;) I just ordered a sample set of Tattlers and Harvest Guards. Depending on how my trial run goes, I'm planning on trying to talk hubs into investing into one of them.
You could fairly easily make a gasket holder with a piece of pvc and a cap for the base or fitting or even just a board. It would be washable than. I love my tattler lids😁
I got mine a week ago. It took about 3 weeks to get mine. When I counted them they had shorted me a few and a few were stuck together. I’ve ordered from them multiple times and they’ve been on point. I didn’t won’t to trouble them for a few knowing they were so busy. They are awesome to use.
Another advantage to the tattler plastic lids is, they are great for any relish or items that have a salt or vinegar base. They will not rust!! Medal lids can and will rust and deposit the rust into the jar of food. This is one of my favorite things about these lids.
I had a bad experience with Tattler. Ordered 9.3.2020. They just arrived. I had to involve my credit card company to get customer service to respond. They never spoke to me, never answered my emails or phone calls. Harvest lids had wonderful service. Buy from them.
What a feeling of comfort to have them in your pantry. I need those cardboard holders and opener's. Didn't realize they sold them till after I had ordered.
it really has helped ease my heart a lot knowing that i can still preserve food even though there are no metal lids to be found anywhere in Michigan at the moment. 🥺
Hubby bought me the 500 Bulk package for our anniversary, can't wait for them to come! Luckily the canning m doing now is for my son & FIL so OTU lids will work for them.
I love my Tattlers. I've just started using them off and on over this past summer. The only time I've had any fails was recently when I was canning tomato soup. But I'm super happy with them even with the learning curve. It will pay off! And I personally think the seal is "better" or "stronger" than the button tops. But, I do miss the pings!
Missing the ping on canning lids is like driving a diesel truck, and then you get a Prius. They both drive, one is quieter, and gets better gas mileage. LOL I love the Tattler lids and Harvest Guard lids.
I used mt tattler lids for the first time last week. 15/16 success rate I love them. I ordered some more wide and regular mouth lids. I also ordered the holders for a $1 each and the opener. They'll pay for themselves. I loved this video.
You also sold me on these! Hubby ( Brian) has been keeping an eye out for more metal lids for me. I showed him parts of this video, he told me to order them while I still can.... I didn’t argue 😆... ordered the same as yours. Really excited to give this a try. THANK YOU ☺️ ~Eva
I ordered mine on the 28th of August and have not received the yet. The current events have harmed alot of small businesses but others, like Tattler, are booming. Bet they never saw that coming 🤣
10:37 Sharpie will not come off of these lids. I suggest getting some yellow vinyl (electrical) tape to use as labels for the tops of the jars. Unlike masking tape, the vinyl tape peels off like a charm.
I have been using Tatler for quite a few years one thing that has not been mentioned, they do not rush through no marker how, one they have been stored. I had some meal canned up for maybe 10 years and it was still good
That's a great video, Heather. I have a couple of packages of the Tattlers that I bought a couple of years ago but haven't had the nerve to try yet. I have some canning to do this week, so now I'm inspired to try them. I have enough button top lids to last for a least a couple of years, but I think I will start stocking up on the Tattlers. It just makes sense!
@@TheKneadyHomesteader I will! I've been thinking of placing an order for them since you mentioned doing it a few weeks ago. Seeing your haul makes me pretty certain that's what I'm going to do. 😊❤️
I was surprised to see you ordered 3 weeks ago and already received your lids I ordered a month ago and didn’t even get a tracking number . I saw your upload and called them idk what happened but the told me they would be shipping it tomorrow just got the tracking info now . If you ordered awhile ago call them up it worked for me !
Thank you for the video. It looks like the tater lids are easier to open than the metal lids. My elderly father has issues with getting the metal lids off my canned jars - that opener may help with that. :)
Hi, Heather . That was a great deal. I just bought 36 caskets and lids. 3 dozen reg and 1 dozen wide . It was $67.00 here in Canada. Online at good2go. Amazon was more exspensive for me. I hope to acquire more . Thanks for the unboxing.
Thanks for the link to order the tattler, I have some that I ordered a couple years ago, but I wanted to get more. Thankfully, I picked up a box here and there over the last year of the metal lids. I will be getting thru this season ok.
@@TheKneadyHomesteader I have yet to can anything with them yet. I’m itching to but I need to get a few things done around the house first. I have a tendency to put everything off when I’m canning. 🥰
I’ve been thinking about the tattler lids I’ve also thought about the wix jars for my stuff that I can, and use often for stuff that I’m giving away or selling when I get to that stage I will still use the disposable lids
I feel brave enough now to give the Tattler lid a try - at first I was a little leery of something new (to me). I probably won't fully transition to them though, because I'll want to hang onto some of those metal lids to put on jars I give away as gifts.
Hi Heather my husband bade me some stands with dowels and a square base to stand up on . I USE THEM FOR MY LARGE AND SMALL RINGS AND THEY WILL WORK GREAT FOR THA RUBBER RINGS .
@@TheKneadyHomesteader I don't have tattler i have the harvest guard and I was watching some one talking about them being different and you could not use harvest Gould on the Tattler lids . the
Heather thanks for showing this unboxing! Must have been so exciting to open this up! Do you think that the opener would work with the Harvest Guard? Love the storage rolls! 😀
MegaCandylady1-Christine Collins I agree. Before Heather showed me them I had no idea they even existed. Now I just need to find more jars cause I want to can year round. Lol
Heather, this is a real game changer, isn't it? I can not can right now but I am making plans to get organized and get moving. Do you think I will have any obstacles with canning foods with no salt? I have to make a good effort in this matter. God bless you and all your hard work and diligence!
Hi Heather! Do you have a special highlight where you share all your cookbook recommendations? I remember you sharing a knock off restaurant cookbook a few years ago here on RU-vid and I searched and searched and couldn’t find it. Did you remove that video?
The Kneady Homesteader now that I’m thinking about it I think you had said you checked it out at the library. It was at your old house. And you had a couple of other cookbooks you were recommending also.
Preserving food is priceless, I can't stand the price gauging that is going on. We really have to keep our eyes open and maybe invest in a different way of doing things. Those Tattler lids look amazing and in terms of cutting down on waste, I may have to get some. I am such a newbie with the canning, feel bad purchasing (if I can find) anything , because I know there are people who will put this equipment to better use than me. I am happy with what I was able to do this summer, until I see plentiful stock for all, I am not purchasing unnecessarily or in excess. Wish you and your family well❤️
I’ve started my collection of Tattler’s about 2 months ago. It would be wonderful if you would do a video on using them. If I remember correctly theirs a bit of a learning curve with them. Thanks
I just ordered Tattlers, wide and regular and a sampler pack (straight from the company). The hunting for lids is getting on my last nerve. The plus is Tattler company is in my state so maybe I'll get them quick. I'm excited!
