the fact that they started off with “Der Königgrätzer Marsch” even though the bad memories they had they still proudly play their old marches from Prussian times
Nice to see the Germans do what they do best: Being German. And now the Scottish pipers. How utterly wonderful. Seeing this in the future just got added to my bucket list!
@@tony.530 There were bands and guards from every nation in Nato I think. As well as some fine Police color guards from as far away as Scotland and Canada.
I was never aware of such a magnificent tatoo also organized in Berlin. I have a deep affection for the Edinburgh and Netherlands tatoo. Now I should add this channel to my favorite list.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C0IYnRQJas0.html the same also from Moscow o nred Square. while this clip is - as old as the hills -, the FIRST time a German Army Band was playing o nred Square, they do it now every year...
@@benediktmorak4409 The red square parade is also another fascination. I had watched many small pieces but never get a full episode. Thank you so much sir for dropping this link for me.
A Tattoo is a formal military parade, where the band usually gets to showcase its repertoire; my grandmother told me of the local Garrison band (Koeln / Cologne) doing the Tattoos, and on Sundays playing their repertoires in a park. We used to do that in the US, until the military fell from grace. Still have formal concerts, but nothing like the late 1800's.
I guess the concerts are in the DC area, maybe the BIG cities. In the south we're lucky to get a military band or two once a year in a few Mardi Gras parades. And it's not like we don't have a strong military presence... Keesler AFB, Barksdale AFB, Several Naval Supports and Air Sta's Which house every branch. And the Army is close too. Camp Shelby, Fort Polk... I'm a veteran and would love to see more of this. American patriotism could use a jump start or three. Maybe it's too late. 9/11 united the public for a little while, but no where near like Pearl Harbor and WW2 did. And instead of the Covid bringing people together against a common "enemy" mostly I saw selfishness and discord. IDK, I guess things and people were different in days of my parents (met at a USO dance in '42 & married for that number of years), and your grandmother. Perhaps the political and other division in America is so great that it'll never get better... Here on RU-vid is a 15 minute black and white video of a WW2 Victory Parade in New York City. I was surprised at the turnout. In 1993 I marched in a Gulf War parade in NYC and people were more aggravated and "inconvenienced" than anything else. I loved the Big Band Swing @ 37:35 that's what my taught me to dance to. No USO dances for us boomers...
Band of brothers theme at 32:16!! I couldnt believe they played this! Its an amazing piece in the film and sounds fantastic in this performance. Job well done.
@ AGB I immediately noticed it...I was actually watching Band of Brothers the night before last. I also enjoyed Bagley's 36:36 "National Emblem March", my personal favorite American march, and the Big Band Swing "In the Mood" @ 37:18 by Glen Miller. And how the Swede's did the piece by ABBA "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie " @ 49:40 . I was just commenting on another vine that I wish America would start having at least an annual Tattoo and Retreat like this, and the Brits. Or at least our military bands take to the streets, for no special occasion (like in England and Italy). I'm a veteran and im sad to say that I think American patriotism is dead. I have NO musical talent whatsoever, save knowing what's good, and can name more than 50% of our marches. Most Americans who aren't fans of martial music can't name 2. I'm not even sure if our kids are even being taught the Star Spangled Banner in school ? Do they even say the Pledge of Allegiance in school anymore ? In my day we also had to learn My Country Tis of Thee, O Beautiful for Spacious Sky's, and God Bless America. Used to be that "crisis" used to bring people together (like Pearl Harbor and WW2, and to a much lesser degree 9/11) but after seeing everything that went on with the Covid-19, the Minneapolis BS, the Election... and what's still happening, I really don't have any hope for a return to patriotism. Different times, different values I guess... Love your Matchbox collection BTW
@ Chaloner, they definitely could have done a better selection than that. It sucked then, and will always suck. It was seriously out of place and character. @ Plight... I'm also a Yank and have to agree that the British Royal Marines have the Best band, followed very closely by the United States Marine Corp. I wish they'd keep the Secret Swiss out of these. Its NOT military or even a Swiss Government agency. We did pretty damn good with "National Emblem March" and "In the Mood". Of course I've not heard the Royal Marines play it... I'm not a fan of "Amazing Grace"... in America it's damn near a cliche for funerals (cop, firefighter, military) but the rendition here on the pipes, at the end was the best I've heard in my life
No doubt about it--German marching bands are the best. It was worth tuning in to this video just to see the bonnie Canadian lassies. I guess they are students of ballet.
**Proceeds to completely ignore how the Luftwaffe just marched in with WW2 uniforms** The Army uniforms are made in a Jäger style, essentially the least militaristic you can get (which was the point, BACK THEN). And then you‘ve got the ceremonial uniforms of the Bundeswehr which do look...*ahem*...“similar“. The M92 Gefechtshelm has a very close resemblance to the old Stahlhelm, take a look ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lb2_vOMRZ1Y.html
Is all ok safe not exactly Exspect shit too happen like is not 2020 is it bad like America there. Hope not. Best wishes too all around there. Be safe.✌✌✌✌✌✌🆒🆗
1:15:50 Life on the Ocean Wave is my favorite British march, followed by the Captain General. Col. Bogey would be #3 I'm a Yank and have to agree that no one beats the Royal Marines. United States Marines nipping at the RM's heels though... I'm a veteran and wish America would have an annual Tattoo and Retreat

Sauerland69 das ist „Requiem of a Soldier“ Respekt, Lob und Anerkennung an alle Kameraden, die unsere freiheitliche demokratische Grundordnung, wo auch immer, für uns verteidigen!
Magnifica marcha! Aunque cada que la escucho solo me viene a la mente la escena de Indiana Jones y la quema de libros (sin ofender, fue solo una película)
Wonderful music and version@ from an italian brother to all germany lots of greets love and respect! May italy and germany be' sisters forever! Luca viva la grande italia e la nobile germania!!!!👍👍🤩🤩👍👍🇮🇹🇮🇹🇩🇪🇩🇪
13th Dec 2021 Just happened to be watching, and both saddened and pleased that a segment of "Music" by John Miles was featured at 25:25. He passed away on 5th December. There is something about band music played well, and all of the bands here played wonderfully.
awful....i liked it better when they wore jackboots and had discipline. Mackey, Ludendorff, Hindenburg must surely be rolling over in their graves. even the East Germans represented. disgraceful.
Seems like you don‘t have an eye for creativity... You want German tradition? Then here you go, just skip to minute 13:00 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_-zEVhHkztk.html
Distinctive drill and ceremony are apart of every Army. The German Army's open hands while marching go back in their Army's history, as does the round pip you see on their headgear and the Glockenspiel. The British military's "stomp" when they do facing movements, as well as their full arm-swing, are integral to their drill.Lang plays a mellow trombone.
Here's an American Veteran who wishes the United States had a tattoo like Britain and Germany...or at least bring out our military bands in public more often than we do. I have absolutely NO musical talent, save for knowing what's good ! Speaking of those who don't, I think every NATO country should have annual Retreats and Tattoos. And We love the Scots, Irish, and Brits !
Hermoso el Tatto de Berlín, me encantó todo, pura calidad, bellos temas y el final el coro formado por las personas de edad, cantando Lilí Marleen y otos temas, muy emocionante. Saludos desde Viña del Mar Chile.
So great to see the great world powers in full dress uniforms preforming their musical and military traditions. With a little Beethoven thrown in for good measure. Wonderful.
Now after 80 years they play together ... what a story behind, as for 1948 try not to cry. Military music, better known as marching music, was played by the Landsknechts to encourage the warriors when there was a fight in the open field. Interesting how we perceive this music...
I was with the U.S. Army, Company B, 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry, Berlin Brigade 1979-1982 and the Berlin Tattoo was never something to miss. It's always been so incredibly spectacular. Also, it happens to date far back into German military history.
