Dear Jono, thank you so much for your great videos, I always follow you !!! 💪💣💪 But for BugPin I am still confused ... Even like you, I am convinced that the BugPin is the gauge # 08 (0.25) but on some suppliers I continue to see discontinuities on this topic. For example, Cheyenne Safety cartridges have these configurations, I will mention a few: 03 Liner Long Taper 0.30 03 Liner BugPin Long Taper 0.30 or 05 Magnum Long Taper 0.35 05 Magnum BugPin Long Taper 0.35 or again 09 Liner Long Taper 0.30 09 Liner BugPin Long Taper 0.30 My problem is not so much the gauge (be it # 08 - # 10 or # 12) but the fact that for the same gauge, one needle is normal and the other BugPin !!! Please help me understand, please !!! 🙏🙏💚🙏🙏 Thank you so much!

Hi Jojo. Thank u for all the great advice on your videos. Appreciate it very much. I have a video suggestion. How about a soft shading demo? Along with that, a few tips about pacing white ink? I've been having such a hard time getting white to stay in the skin. Could it be just a shitty brand? I take my time and put it in like every other color but no dice. I'm stumped. Thanx brother! Take care!
@JonoSmithTattoo
@JonoSmithTattoo 7 лет назад
Thanks for the great comment I appreciate it. I'll definitely look into doing a video on white ink and on shading. I'm not sure if you mean you can't get white to stay in whilst actually tattooing or you mean when it's fully healed. White is a very odd colour and doesn't work like most other inks. Try Dynamic Heavy White. I'll do a video on it soon. Thanks for watching.
@Lovegun.
@Lovegun. 7 лет назад
I mean jist getting the actual ink in. I do lots of black and grey and the white highlights just don't seem to want to stay. Iuse starbrite and all the their other colours go in great other than white. Thank u for the reply. It's awesome that artists are opening up now!!
@Lovegun.
@Lovegun. 7 лет назад
The only other problem I have is with shading. The skin goes red when i do a piece and i I really take a pic as it doesn't look very good. I use bugpins, don't go deep and use sweeping controlled movements but it still looks overworked. I only tattoo on myself right now as I don't want to do this on a client. Thank u so much Jono! Love your videos. So helpful man.

This video was great thank you, my only question is for the 0.35 is good for tribal & filling in bigger areas quicker, but with it being wider it would hurt more & cause more damage like mentioned, but would the 0.3 be good for full saturation & filling in bigger areas as well? If so it would be great because it’s a little less wide of a needle, & that would mean less pain for customer witch is huge, & also better healing time. My only concern is if the ink doesn’t go in as quick, am I going to have to go over the skin more for bigger areas like tribal art that also need more saturation, & it not lay the ink in as good as I would like, & am I going to hit the skin more then the then 0.35 & cause more damage, cause have to hit the skin more with the 0.3 compared to the 0.35? Just would like to know if it’s good for larger areas because I am big in less pain for customer & better healing time, but if it would hit skin much more & hamburger it more then just using the 0.35 & laying it in I’d use the 0.35, but if I can use the 0.3 & lay it in as fast with full saturation for bigger areas & be be less damage then the 0.35 it would be key to us the 0.3 then less damage & better healing, If you could help answer this it would be greatly appreciated, & if anyone els has thoughts on this? Hope this makes as much scenes as possible

Sir, I understand what the differences 12-10 or 8mm needles, thats okey but I have still questions about long taper and short taper. According to your statement short taper is using for one time straight line and long taper is using for shading and some building process, Am I understood correctly?
@JonoSmithTattoo

Erdem Metin yes in my opinion short tapers are better for lining whilst long tapers are better for building shades.

@@JonoSmithTattoo are medium tapers good for line work? What would you recommend using on a smaller tattoo, a 0.35 needle or do you have to use a 0.30 ......what's the difference, is it skin trauma that's affected the colour saturation or does the appearance of the lines differ?

Hi man, excellently explained. Tell me if I want to fill a larger area with ink, what would you recommend? 12 11 M or let say 10 13 M (because the contact surface is narrower). I still don't understand when to use 12 and when 10 if the total width of the needles is identical. What exactly will I achieve with a thicker needle (12) and what with a thinner one (10), except that the healing time is different. Is the 10 smoother than 12 or what...?
@JonoSmithTattoo

Personally I always use double zeros for everything now. So for a large area I’d probably use something like a 23-10-CM

@jeffleblanc8850
@jeffleblanc8850 5 лет назад
He prob don’t know what that is a mag 1 is for black and grey 2 is for color packing it’s the taper I guess he gets wierd needles I think his double oo is a medium taper in Canada 12 is a 3.5 like he said and so is 08 her in Canada a 08 bug pin I believe is 3.5 if it’s got a 1 at the end it a long taper if it’s got a 2 it’s a medium taper at least the company I deal with
@jeffleblanc8850
@jeffleblanc8850 5 лет назад
Also every body does ther own thing some people like long taper for everything and some people swear by bug pins for outlining if you use a bug pin and you get a 5 round it’s prob like a 3 it will be a tight 5

I ordered some evolution needles they say they are 12 gauge 11 curved magnum but it also says they are tight bugpin....whats that mean?? The code is 1211M1TB. Just confused cuz i thought bugpin referred to it being a 10 gauge but its 12. Please help explain..
@JonoSmithTattoo
@JonoSmithTattoo 5 лет назад
Some needle companies REALLY confuse people when they sell standard 12’s as bugpins. Usually bugpins are 8’s and double-zero’s are 10’s (which some people refer to as bugpins). If they are selling standard 12’s as ‘Tight bugpins’ then it’s referring to the actual spaces between the needles. They will be 12’s but they’ll be compacted together much tighter than usual.
@gershen8846

@jeffleblanc8850
@jeffleblanc8850 5 лет назад
It’s 12 11mag long taper if it has a 2 it’s a medium taper I don’t know what the letters are for her in Canada a Bc at the end that mean it’s a curved mag a bug PIN number here in Canada is 0807M1BC bug pin curved 7 and a long taper if it was a 2 it would be a medium taper in my land that would be one of the numbers for a mag shader bug pin
@leehynes3529

how would you rate needles that are both long taper and bugpin? ive particularly seen some cartridges which are both
@JonoSmithTattoo
@JonoSmithTattoo 8 лет назад
Long taper bugpins (10's) are what I use on a daily basis. They're great for building shades. I think 8's are too fine and don't deliver the ink like they should regardless of taper which is why I don't use them.
@Newb118
@Newb118 3 года назад
So im interested in getting the middle one in a cartridge 10/0.3 how can i search for it? What is the specific name for ebay?
@JonoSmithTattoo
@JonoSmithTattoo 3 года назад
They are called double zeros. You might struggle with eBay. A reputable tattoo supply company will have all the configurations in a drop down option box.
@Newb118
@Newb118 3 года назад
@@JonoSmithTattoo hi had a look, killer ink who is most well known de the needles but the cartridges only say 0.3 without the gauge? Christ this is confusing
@JonoSmithTattoo
@JonoSmithTattoo 3 года назад
@@Newb118 0.3 is the gauge. A 0.3 gauge is a double zero.
@Newb118
@Newb118 3 года назад
@@JonoSmithTattoo right ok... so the 10 in the video is the same as the 0.3? Please correct if wrong lol
@JonoSmithTattoo
@JonoSmithTattoo 3 года назад
@@Newb118 yes that’s correct. So just to summarise: 12’s are also known as ‘standard’, 10’s are also known as ‘double-zero’s’ and 8’s are also known as ‘bug pins’.
