i as a member from 90-2003.....fantastic Service.....on your own you'd never have such great access and great connections to be heard...and more importantly ..heard by the right people

The issue I would have is that as listing company details are anonymous (secret) there is no verifiable proof available that the 'listing' request is in fact genuine in the first place, and not just another way to extract $ 5 from people submitting to it.

I totally hear you! Though, I've known Michael Laskow for decades and he's never struck me as a liar. It's his company and he's really proud of what he's built. That said, you could contact one of the many members who have received a placement and ask them directly about their experiences. Also, when Michael first started the company you could submit to their listings for free. Can you guess what happened? The screeners were overwhelmed by so much BS music that didn't fit the listing that they had to put the $5 charge in place to make people think twice before submitting. Michael literally hasn't changed the $5 fee for 20 years! I can personally attest to this. Also, in the first few years of the company I had forwards and was able to see who my music was forwarded too and even contact listing agents directly. I did this with a few agents that led to deals outside of Taxi. But again, members abused this privilege and there were even some harassments situations. So, again, Michael had to hide the listing agent's contact info. But yeah, I can personally verify that the company is for real. Though the inability to follow through nowadays with any sort of verification, like were your forwarded tracks even listened to by the listing agent, is a real bummer.

Thanks. Great break down. It would be nice to know how much you can make from and average placement, and if you ever had any placements yourself. Nice job

Sync fees and royalties differ from placement to placement, there's no average. It depends on the show's budget, whether they're a network or a small cable channel. Also, whether your song is background music or a feature placement. The placement type also determines your backend royalties, which are more if it's a hit show that's in worldwide syndication. There are a ton of factors at play. Yup, I've had a few placements. I've had sync fees as little as $250 and as much as $10,000. Shows that were hits are still generating royalties for me a decade later. I'm not sure exactly what the future holds, but placements have been a major source of revenue for entrepreneurial composers and producers for the past several decades.

I can tell you my breakdown , after 250 placements it averages to around $27 per placement. That's in mostly reality shows where the higher earners are shows such as Catfish , Keeping Up with The Kardashians Etc. but most of them pay lower than those. Only ever had one Sync Fee of $300 . YMMV

I don't know how you feel about this, but to get your lyrics started, try ChatGPT. I'm not suggesting you use what the AI generates verbatim, but try it as a starting point for your own lyrics, rewrite and modify what it generates. Your prompt should be something like, "Write a song about beautiful sunsets in the style of Taylor Swift." And yes, I'm working on a RU-vid video about this whole AI co-writing concept! ;-)

Does Taxi make you money? Royalties, streams and such? I guess if it is forwarded and used it will make you money for it right?
@ErikHawk

Taxi doesn't make you money directly, they only guarantee that your submission for a listing will be heard. If it's forwarded, then it's out of Taxi's hands at this point. If the listing agent wants to sign your track for representation they will contact you. Then, you have to wait for the song to be placed. Honestly, the whole process can take a couple of years from the time that your song is signed for representation to your first royalty check in the mail from a PRO, such as BMI or ASCAP. This is why the most successful placement artists have literally hundreds of songs being cycled through the system. Sounds intimidating, right? The most successful placement artists are crazy prolific.

Yes, I'd say that Taxi paid for itself. Though, it was indirectly for me through contacts in the Industry. Which really is the point of my video. It can be, but it isn't necessarily a direct correlation to the cost of the service. But to understand this you'd need to watch the video. I put a lot of time and energy into this video and took a deep dive into the Taxi online system. I share things that I haven't seen anybody else share on how taxi actually works. I think you'd enjoy the video.

I have paid for my membership and some through Taxi after 18 months initially as a member. Michael Laskow says that members who attend theRoad Rally are most likely to succeed.I got my first deals and placements before attending a rally in person in LA. It's useful to look at the popular opinion musicians have of the Nashville music industry.It's called the 'ten year town' by many who achieve success.Going to the music gym and not giving up brings results in my experience.The gym analogy is a great one @ErikHawk.
