Love the birds in the background and the addition of the drone footage, you live in some beautiful surroundings there , thanks for the updates and content.
Thank you Fabian! I really love Patagonia, hope to be able to visit this place, some day... The rock ruins are a place where my great grandparents where making flower. Best regards!
Hi my friend, very compliments for this beautiful video, you have made the right decision about taxodium and you will surely have excellent results. Thanks for showing all your great jobs, they were all successful except that mugo pine but we know that it's a somewhat problematic species! Thank you always and have a great weekend!👍👍👍
Very good! Already uploaded a video on that one a month ago, with updates on all of this spring's grafts! Go check it out! I now give them 3 hours of full sun in the morning as they have hardened off.
I just purchased a BC with this same intent. After researching, everyone said that you cannot air layer the main trunk. This says otherwise. What am I missing? Love your content by the way!
Thank you Coltan! You are just in time, for in 10 hours I'll upload the result and the separation of the air layer, this and 2 other species. Spoiler alert, results are amazing! My experience is that it was not as easy as a Japanese maple, but since I did nothing more than just wait 12 more months, it was not that hard either. Just patience. With this experience, I would make sure the following things happen. 1) the tree must be strong, not repotted the same season 2) better use 2% rooting hormone 3) you will see tomorrow that the tree looks not to like moss that much, so next time I'm going to use my bonsai soil mix to root it 4) I would prefer a more open bag during rooting so that I can water the airlayer as I water the tree and get lots of oxygen in between waterings. Other than that, was not that hard and the roots are unbelievable (as you'll see tomorrow). Cheers!
I did a recap, your 1st try was on april 2022, then in nov 2022 confirm no roots yet but wait until june 2023 to restart the callus and there were roots so in Sept 2023 was the separation. Do you think if you start in mid spring better than early spring would be better or do you think a year is needed?
Perfect recap Ivan! I believe, under the right circumstances, you might get roots within a season. I did repotted it few weeks before the air layering and I think that had a delaying effect. Plus, I did not use the strongest rooting hormone on this. So yes, you might get roots in a season. I think the earlier (after the latest frosts) the better. Cheers Ivan!
