I love that you IMMEDIATELY caught on to the whole, "You knew my age when we got together," thing. So many people don't even think about that. Like... If that was a problem, you wouldn't have dated me to start with. And you wouldn't have KEPT dating girls that age (he started dating his current gf when she was the ripe old age of 22, 14 years younger than he was at the time). Man, you do such great reactions. You always give the song real attention, and that's so good. And you like...do great emoting? I dunno how to describe it. But it's great. That's why I subscribed on Patreon, haha.

I love that you drew a parallel between the red scarf and her girlhood in 'WCS'. Two separate relationships, but Jake and John BOTH took advantage of her youth at the time and essentially robbed her of her innocence as a young woman. Jake kept the scarf almost as a "trophy", because it reminded him of her innocence, and John robbed her of her girlhood which she could never get back.

I also take the last few minutes as her haunting him. The way she whisper sings it and repeats it always reminds me of being haunted. 😞

This song man.. the shortened version of this song came out when I was 18 and was going through my first heartbreak and I’d cry singing it in the car everyday lol I’m turning 30 this year and i still tear up when singing this song in the car. The short film version has a very impactful scene where Taylor isn't singing but the actors are acting out a scene that pretty much every relationship has had. I almost think every couple should be required to watch it together. It shows how Women and Men think differently. I'm sure plenty of people have told you it was about Jake Gyllenhaal lol but in contrast to John Mayer, the other famously bad relationship she's had, I get the vibe that Jake wasn't like, actively abusive or predatory to her, just that they were mismatched. The age gap didn't HELP the mismatch but didn't necessarily cause it, either. I'm not out for Jake's fucking blood like I am John's after Dear John and Would've Could've Should've. Also, kind of an adorable fact: the main song widely believed to be about Taylor Lautner (who she was with when they were both quite young and it kinda seemed like a puppy love thing) is Back To December which is basically just "I'm sorry, I screwed up, I wish I could take back the way I hurt you" and she's now good friends with him and his wife, so men who don't do anything actively shitty to her seem to come out okay. There's a quote from her somewhere like "I sing about how people have made me feel and how they've treated me, so if someone is not happy about the way I sing about them, maybe that says something about how they treated me."

I loved watching this. My kid recorded me when the re-release came out. A lot of people liked it, it was genuine. It was unplanned, my kid just picked up my phone and started recording me bc ATW is monumental in my life, for a lot of reasons. It’s why I started playing ukulele, specifically so I could play this song. I thought my kid was recording me bc they were making fun of me. lol. They told me after they did it bc they thought I’d want to have the moment to rewatch :) Sweet kid :) It’s on my channel, in the RED TV reactions playlist.
