Quick way to differentiate the aesthetic of these 2 albums Folklore:🍃🌿🌱🌊🌾🍵🌫️🪩🩶 Evermore: 🤎❄️🍂🍁☕️🪵🐿️🌨️ Basically folklore represents spring and summer (mainly a gloomy cottage core summer not the 1989 type summer) And evermore represents the remaining seasons fall and winter.
Some people interpret it differently like some people have a difficult time understanding why folklore represents spring when it’s so gloomy but it’s mainly because the photos are in black and white, in color they’re very green and naturey, along with the green dress she sometimes wears during folklore on her eras tour + the green plants in the cardigan music video. But some interpret it as a end of summer-fall album
@@warcatfurever101writeroffanfic it’s just the filter tbh… everything about the visuals is so nature Esq, from the photoshoot, your visuals, Grammys flower dress, cardigan Mv, Spotify visuals (I think they’re in color too if I’m not wrong?) plus the 1, seven, and invisible string sound super spring, vs august, my tears ricochet, the last great American dynasty, and Mirrorball feel super summery. Not modern day beachy 1989 beach ball type summer but sitting on the beach alone watching the waves crash against the shore type summer
@@zontzooit2415 thanks for the explanation! Even though I see it differently, thanks for letting me know why it is is associated with spring and summer.
Yes exactly this! Folklore for me represents the first half of the year and Evermore the second half. Also imo Folklore is symbolized by the fairy while Evermore's symbol is the witch (which fits in with the willow and fall narrative)
August 2:47 - Get in the car Betty 2:47 - James get in Betty 3:13 - Betty, I'm here on your doorstep Cardigan 3:13 - You'd be standing in my front porch light
-Cardigan (Betty’s pov): to kiss in cars and downtown bars was all we needed -Betty (James’ pov): standing in your cardigan, kissing in my car again -Cardigan: I knew you dancing in your Levi’s drunk under a streetlight -Betty: stopped at a streetlight, you know I miss you.. -Cardigan: I knew you’d miss me once the trill expired
In your discussion of illicit affairs you talked about the parallels to addiction. You will find Taylor often refers to love as her drug of choice though she has also talked about using alcohol as a coping mechanism. Taylor also likes to compare being in a toxic relationship to being addicted to a person.
This is the best folklore first listen reaction I have ever seen. It took me months to figure out the meanings of all these song and you picked up on everything so quickly
i love reactions like this where they don't just simply listen but where they actually take the time to understand and discuss what the songs are about! 💙
I think you’d love the Folklore Long Pond Studio Sessions, Taylor and her producers play live and discuss the meaning of the songs. Even if you don’t react to it, I think you’d have a great time just watching it.
I really feel like this album is in a realm of its own. Subtle storytelling, escapism and introspection, it’s almost like Taylor welcoming us into her own world, like an hour of confessionals, honest conversations, and realising that we’re all alike, in that sense. It’s incredibly emotional, but not always overt and clear. It’s subdued and honest, not asking us to cry for it, but welcoming us to if we want to. It’s just such an experience to wander through, as Taylor holds our hand to guide us.
I got Exile as a surprise song on tour, it was amazing. There are videos of it online and its just her and her piano, think you would really like that version.
IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS 😭 i loved your red reaction, the way you talk about music is so insightful and im absolutely obsessed with the way that you really delve deep into the lyrics and the meanings behind each song!!
I have a weird thing to say: at one moment i got chills on my forehead???? ANYWAY I just have to say, this might be one of my favorite videos on youtube. I'm going to write an essay here because it just feels right so scroll away if that's not your jam. When I came across this video, I almost didn't click because of its length. But hey it's folklore, I had to. I have seen so many reactions to this album, that almost every detail pointed out by each youtuber is imprinted in my memory; I thought I knew what these songs meant, the full weight each lyric held. I was so happy to be wrong throughout the duration of this video. I feel that this video captures the answer to why people watch so many music reactions and still click on more from different creators. It is this quest to find someone who is truly enthusiastic about the music but still honest and authentic with their opinions, someone who is open to its contents, who feels every feeling with patience, who digs deep into its intricacies, who weaves new meanings out of the words, who shares fresh perspectives and is receptive to the music itself. This is it. It comes across like sharing new music with a friend and they really appreciate it for what it is and then form a connection themselves. The editing is stellar and tight. Also your harmonies and adlibs were so so beautiful! I do that all time but they are way less melodious than yours lol. I loved your insights and the 'random' things you pointed out. When you said that we are here for your opinions and thoughts so you must say your piece, you were completely right! Thankyou for putting this beautiful, joyful video out. Idk why I'm getting emotional; the best way I can explain it is when such an emotionally intelligent and perceptive person explores this thing you love, and doesn't hold back with expressing what they felt, you see it in a different light too and find new ways to love it all over again.
this is so meaningful, I read every word!! so glad you enjoyed my video and comments like this keep me motivated and put a big smile on my face. I just want to make people feel good, you know? xx
This is possibly the best album reaction I've ever seen. Thank you! I strongly recommend watching "The Long Pond Sessions" just for your own enjoyment. Seeing Taylor and her collaborators playing the music in an intimate acoustic setting elevates appreciation to a new level, and it's fun to hear them talk about each song. I can't choose a favorite between folklore and evermore - I think of them together as my favorite - but I heard folklore first and it is the one that made me into a full-fledged swifty.
I swear, this album brings something inside of me, it's just so spiritual, like a full openness and transparency in a most beautiful way, every song got a special place in my heart, I can't get enough of it, really, her voice sounds so magical, I'm in a new whole journey with every single track I can't even explain, how much this album means to me, but it means a lot
wow, youtube randomly recommended me this video on my feed and I put it on while doing some work and I gotta say I'm captivated by your personality, you're really fun and upbeat. keep up the great work gurl, you just won a lifelong suscriber :)
This was great. First time watching you. Hit subscribe! Hoping you do evermore next (if you haven’t already - I have to check). Background - Joe & Taylor were not married but they lived together. He was an amazing muse for her - most of Reputation, Lover, some songs on folklore (like Invisible String, Peace, etc.) never mind co-writing some of the best songs on folklore and evermore.
Find the video of her playing it on tour! The entire stadium went silent to hear her sing it solo for the first time. I constantly go back to it cause I get chills every time. I hope we get a recorded version, cause as much as I love the album version, her voice is magical on Bon Ivers part
I had never thought of the addiction parallels in Illicit Affairs but I think you’re 100% right. Like even if that isn’t what Taylor was writing about, it’s still so accurate.
Just wanted to say I love the adlibs you add when you’re listening to the songs ❤. Also I think one of the great things about Taylor’s songs is there doesn’t have to be just one interpretation of them. For example with Illicit Affairs it could be about a relationship or addiction. For me personally, as someone who is recovering from an eating disorder, the song feels reminiscent of my experience with my ED, as it’s also addictive.
Such a beautiful and in-depth reaction. Thank you! Also, it sounds amazing when your vocals mix in with the songs! When i wasn't looking directly at the screen, I'd think, 'oh, i don't remember that part,' then realize it was you melding so perfectly with the song 💜💜
My tears richochet can be interpreted as a divorce/broken relationship. So what u thought is fine. Tay herself said during the long pond sessions it can be equated to that.
Yay thank you again for your hard work! Also I don't know if you knew this but Taylor always does something with her track 5's specifically...I won't say what it is but I thought you'd be intrigued by that lol
ooooh my sister may have already told me , but only like yesterday ... and I think ive forgotten ... something like they're always the hard hitters or something ? I honestly can't remember hahaha !
Thank you for all your hard work on this album and video!!!! I appreciate it so so much. I've been watching your channel for years now and I love your words, intelect, and opinions on music! Thank you, Fern!!!
Hiiiiii! New here, but I’ve subscribed and liked your video. I really liked your reaction as well, so I’m considering Patreon!! I am currently on your Illicit Affairs song reaction, and wanted to add a layer to your interpretation- while I do think that Taylor was referring specifically to going outside of a relationship, she does liken the ‘affair’ to an addition of sorts.
you envisioning seven as an edm style track is now a core memory and i actually thought that take was so creative because it could totally go that way!!!
came straight from your red reaction to this! you pick up on taylor potentially singing about women and i think that reading queerness in her art adds so much depth to it, there’s such a pervasive narrative that taylor must be straight but i really encourage you to go into evermore with a really open mind (also it adds so much humour to willow) i’m still closeted to my family and peace and seven resonate so deeply with me also your voice gives such ethereal ethel cainesque harmonies ❤
Ohhh I'm really excited for this one! I don't mean to apply pressure, just asking. Are you going to do the rest of Red or will you end it there and move on to the resr of the discography?
Evermore is great to react to next! It’s like a part 2 of folklore! Also folk vibes. I’d also recommend speak now which is my favorite Taylor album! It has more country rock vibes!
The Long Pond Sessions special is a great watch. In it, Taylor reveals that most of the stories on this album are fictional, and that this project was something she started THREE DAYS into lockdown in 2020 (when they had “called off the circus” of her Lover tour and she found a way to stay on the tightrope and keep us looking at her).
Taylor said that mirrorball is about her relationship to Fame in her Long Pond Studio Sessions. If you havent wayched already, its an amazing watch! She's a mirror ball. A mirrorball is many pieces of glass that shine and obviously entertain us. When she breaks, she writes a song and it entertains us. Her misery is our entertainment. She's walking a tightrope. A fine line with her music and public personality to keep fans interested. She's worried if she isn't shiny and new, fans will lose interest. She keeps reinventing herself. Also lends itself well to the mirror ball metaphor, the different pieces of a mirror ball, different taylors, evolutions She's went through in her music and public persona.
Your harmonizing in Exile was great. Shocked tho you didn’t live Justin’s voice. Song was nominated for a Grammy for Best Collaboration and is usually a favorite of people who listen for the first time. But that’s what’s great about music.
