If he stays, he needs to be outed for killing Riz and his part in starting both the Mayan civil war and the war with the Sons, otherwise it's another wasted plotline. Best thing to redeem his character is if he ousts himself.

The war would have started either way. The Mayans killed a son when they attacked the VM before riz was killed.
