I've just bought one of these. It's exciting to see how much you can do with the Tone Print outside of the basic knob controls. Brilliant stuff! Although, you can see how much force the mash buttons needs to get full deflection!
Toneprint editor is really great and definitely takes this pedal to another level. Yeah Mash isn’t easy to use with your hands since it’s apparently designed to work better with the weight you’d put with your foot.
One of my fav pedals the tp default settings are really cool! My fav thing to do is set voice one an octave up on a 7th and then the second voice to a whole octave lower sooo ig 12?? The rock a medium delay behind it! (I use this setting in conjunction with the tp1 delay tone btw great ambient tones!)
Fabulous demo ! TC should give you money because you just convinced me to buy one (or a Plethora). EHX pitch fork might work better for simple pitch/harmonizer but the TC has so much more options. Could you tell me what guitar / pickups you're using ? I love your tone. Thanks
Thanks! Yeah the Brainwaves has a lot of features it is much more than a pitch shifter pedal. I’m using a Charvel DC-2 (with Seymour Duncan SH-2N and SH-4), and Line 6 HX Stomp (mainly clean Fender amp models). I record direct from the HX Stomp.
Anyone help please? Trying to make the Filtered Stutter in Tone Print. How do you get the Porta subtype? Which tempate should I use , tried all of them and I still don't have the Porta option in the scroll down. Thanks!
I think the Toneprint editor got an update after I made this video and some templates may be gone or replaced now. I don’t know how you can recreate that sound. Sorry.
Ok, this pedal is insane, my mind's officially blown. Anyone know if you can separate the dry from the effected signal in the stereo outs? Seems like that'd be incredible useful
Thank you for your precious review. Please, help me to understand one thing: i need a pedal that can change the tune of my guitar of all 12 semitones, up and down... I don't need "harmonizing" or other combined effects, just a tune changing, up and down. This pedal can do this? And if not: do you have any suggestion for me? Thank you in advance mate!
@@DoNoise first of all thank you for your answer. I enjoyed the full video, but i had some doubt about "increasing" semitones... Because it seems to drop the tune only, as a lot of pedals do... but it's difficult to find a pedal that increases the tune for the whole 12 semitones. So you confirm that it works like that?
@@TakeshiRG yes it does (08:54). Most people don’t focus on shifting up because just using an actual capo gets you a better (and a real) tone. Brainwaves does shift up and you can set it to any semitone.
Hi, great video and great demonstration! I have a question: how can I use the pedal to decrease the pitch of all the strings of the guitar only by a semitone (to get Eb tuning)? Thanks a lot! 👍🏻
I am waiting for mine (2 weeks to go) and I have been coming back to this video to drool :) Awesome job at showing how musical this pedal can be. I had no doubts it could do a lot of things (had toneprints pedal before) but this just shows how much value for money is there in the Brainwaves (octaver, whammy, chorus, delay.... you name it !). Thanks for giving me more ideas, hope you keep bringing valuable content like this ! PS: Are the first three toneprints (Dynamic detune, filtered stutter and delay v1-v2) stock? If not, are you able to share them with the world or is this just for your use ? :)
Yes it definitely does octaves and regular pitch shifting. There are so many videos showing the basic functionality I chose to just skip those and show some more interesting stuff.
@@DoNoise well you did a good job of it - some of those sounds were fantastic! My only complaint would be that I could get lost shoegazing for hours rather than just getting a tone and playing...but that's really splitting hairs, basically saying it's too good.🤷♂️
Great demo! I want to buy this pedal and you review helped, my only question is. Using only one voice, can i shift 1 and 2 semitones(up or down) and hear my signal 100% wet?
Angel Rivero thanks! I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “only one voice” and “1 and 2 semitones”. You can have one or two semitones (and one or two voices) at the same time and can also have a full wet mix.
@@DoNoise I loved that sound, hearing it made my final the decision to buy the pedal. It's a sh*t if it's impossible to make. What existing Subtype would be the best to replace Porta, do you think ?
Does this pedal have a lot of latency? Great sounding pedal but seems like around 5:57 the dirty bass goes off sync but hard to know since what's being played is not visible on the video.
So all of the more interesting effects require a computer? I think it is unfortunate that software is required to enjoy the benefits... I take it all of those custom modes can only be "stored" one at a time?
Yes you need to use the editor (computer or mobile) for these. There are 3 slots for you to save your effects. You only need to connect once to save the effects.
@@DoNoise Ok, a one time connection I can certainly live with... however aren't such patches purchased from the manufacturer? Can that be done in the after market world or does it have to happen at point of purchase? Thanks.
Hello! First of all great video, I came through reddit. I have 2 questions: Is it possible to choose a Custom voice for the pressets or it is only possible on the 3 footprints? Another one is: Do you notice any latency with the pitchshifting? I have no trouble at all playing heavy riffs with the lower strings, but on the higher strings its has latency. For example: 1 semitone down works perfectly playing slayer or smashing pumpkins riffs, but if I try the intro for Sweet child o mine (same tuning) it as a very noticeable latency. Thank you!
Thanks! Regular modes are not customizable, as far as I know. You can only change the custom voice on the Toneprint slots. All pitch shifters have latency but I don’t notice too much with the Brainwaves. If you’re using this pedal to down tune your guitar, use the Kaiser Pitch template to create a Toneprint for that. Works better that way.
Question.....the original pitchfork goes 1, 2, then 4 pitches and skips the 3rd....meaning, if I am in A, and I keep dialing the pitch key up, it will go A#, B, then C#......Will this pedal allow me to hit the 3rd, or C, note that the original pitchfork doesn’t????
I think both are good but they sound different. If you just want a pitch shifter, Brainwaves would be my recommendation rather than Multistomp, since it can do more with the dual voices and the Mash switch.
@@DoNoise Thanks for the reply! I went with the Multistomp for the reverb options, but if I'm unsatisfied with the pitch shifting, this is on my watch list.
Unfortunately sometimes it be like that when you rush things and have less than perfect setup and intonation. I wish I had been more careful but I think this video still has some unique settings to offer. I appreciate the feedback.
This is just a pitch shifter not an intelligent harmonizer so it just shifts in certain semitones (so +7 would be a perfect fifth up). Different intervals (like 1 semitone or even microtones) are available in the Toneprint editor.
@@DoNoise Oh wow, ok! That's much better then...was expecting something like "m3, M3" etc rather than counting semitones...it can be used as a kill-dry parallel-interval analog harmonizer though right? My idea was basically, I have a stereo delay and let the echoes come back an octave up like a virtual capo for a virtual second guitar...I thought having minor 3rds could be cool for some triad stuff though to get a kind of 7#9 effect on the repeats.
Hey could you help me. I'm trying to recreate the filtered stutter but I don't have the option called 'porta' under the subtype in the toneprint editor - I only have; wham, detune, pitch and V1V2. Any help? TIA
I don’t really remember all the details but the most important thing is to start with the right Toneprint template in the editor. Open a Toneprint with a stutter hold type effect and go from there. Then the screenshots in the description should help you.
Placement is always going to depend on given sound and style; just as it's become popular to place some verbs, delays, and modulations before Drive sections, you can sometimes get desirable results placing a Octave/ Pitch after Drives, instead of the usual early in the chain.Usually, the idea is that you want to feed O/ P's as clean a signal as possible for better tracking. But clear tracking isn't everyone's bag. You can get some unique effects by hitting them with a distorted, or otherwise altered signal.
I like it before drives so I’d put it first in chain and use it in mono. If I needed it in stereo, it would probably be before modulation, delay and reverb.
Aleksander Vedom it doesn't track the notes you're playing (as it is not a harmonizer or a synth pedal). So no wrong notes are triggered. Near the end of the video when I'm showing the drop tuning settings, I specifically played complex chords to show that.
@@DoNoise Yup I figured just by comparing your toneprint screens and what I can do in the editor with flashaback 2 that I have and as you replied I had just finished ordering my TC Brainwaves lol
@@DoNoise Hey, I have a question, is there a way to assign delay time or delay feedback to the knob in the custom toneprint that has a delay? For example when in setting like your Delay V1>V2 or Pitch delay, Modulated Delay etc?
@@chinmeysway the Mash bottom somehow is suitable to imitate a potentiometer, so it can change a from-to value. If you do not have the pedal it is difficult for me explain it better but you can find vids on utube about its working abilty
g. Thanks for the feedback. I do tune up (and sometimes tune again between parts) but it might have gotten out of tune somewhere. These things happen. Calm down please.
