Useto own an HOF V1 and just never bonded with it... picked up and RV-6 and immediately loved it... both are great just depends on taste and needs...

Thanks so much! Great comparison! I'm surprised how different they sound given they're priced so similarly and they're both well respected manufacturers. To my ears the Boss sounds a shade more natural and spacious in the standard reverb models and the spring is way springier but the TC is way better for the shimmer and mod. So given the TC also has a church model perhaps it's more suited for ambient work.

I tried both and liked the Boss more. Sounded more natural and warmer to me. Both are great pedals though, especially for the price.

Thank you for this. I listened 'blind' and clicked to see the page when I heard a sound that 'moved me'. HoF 2 was the winner for me, which is the opposite of the way I thought it would be :o)

I like your comparison here,they both have their qualities..I did have the original full sized HOF and really didn't I guess give it enough time and sold it..now I might need one of these 2 or I like the MXR M300 reverb as well..any ideas which of these 2 might play nice in my Peavey 5150 high gain heads effects loop ? The manual says "time based effects" are to be used in the loop for best results so kind of wondering what to do now..I guess I can buy and try and I guess send back whichever I or my amp don't like,even though I don't like doing that..I have seen some of your other videos and the quality is great..I enjoy them.

I am shopping for a reverb pedal and was considering the RV-6. I like Roland products ( I have Roland VGA-5 and VGA-7 amps as well as a Cube - all are great.) But the TC Electronics HOF2 sounds less muddy on this review. I'll have to try both out in person. Thanks for a nice feature-by-feature review!

Hey Ryan, thanks for this comparison. I'm contemplating between these two pedals and just can't make up my mind. I'm leaning towards the RV-6 because it sounds a hair better to me, though they are pretty close. The HOF2, on the other hand, seems to be more flexible with the toneprints and the mash. Tough choice... Which one do you prefer?

I like the idea of toneprints and mash :) very useful.. but I also think its important to go with what sounds best to you.. I like both pedals but I'll be honest I usually end up with a Boss RV-5 on my board haha not the 6.. the modulate setting on there just agrees with me.. I'd recommend you test both pedals out in a store and see what hits you :)

I have the TC electronic Flashback 2 and I don't find the toneprints very useful, and I never use the mash. Hope that helps.

I sold my EHX Holy Grail Neo which was stupid on my part,but I needed the extra $$ to finally get my Peavey 5150 head..so I got the Biyang Tri-reverb because cheaper and I was low on $$ that I could use to buy gear..The Holy Grail sounded awesome with my EVH 5150-3 50 watt head,and the Biyang sounds good with my Peavey 5150 head,but I did notice a little more hum than normal,but I think it is because I set the pedal on the head,but other than that the Tri-Reverb is comparible to the EHX..both can get really super maxed out over the top reverb or lush and everything in between..now when I plug the Biyang in my Peavey 5150 again in the next few days I am going to try the ground lift to reduce hum..if that doesn't help or moving pedal to floor I need to know which of these 2 pedals,the Boss or TC Electronics HOF 2 might play nice in my 5150 heads effects loop..its a high gain monster head,but I like just a little reverb to wetten it up. The Biyang Tri-Reverb is a very good sounding pedal,and hope it gets to stick around !

Both are great and pretty even, but the HoF won by a long shot with the Shimmer, granted the low setting was too low, the other two made up the difference.

Thanks for this. After days of comparison vids between different reverb pedals, it came down to these two (and your vid is quite simply the best head to head vid that I've seen on RU-vid). I would have gone for the HOF2 based on sound quality, but I'm going for the BOSS because of the external expression pedal option. I'm sure I won't regret it. To be coupled with an Arturia MiniBrute2S and a customised Saturnworks Compact Expression Guitar Pedal from Bryan Wallis in CA (found via Etsy). One week later - update. I'm still undecided, I just discovered the HoF2 has the option to tweak the settings via the TonePrint software on PC/Mac/Android.... Now I'm back to HoF over RV-6

Look at the feautures of HOF2, it has 3 user preset, mash, trail duration selector.

I've used BOSS pedals all my life but have to say the HOF sounds wider and more truly stereo than the BOSS.

While the sounds themselves are important in a static *on* position, it seems worth noting the MASH aspect of the HOF2 allows way more flexibility and variety within each effect. But then again, if you really want to flex on the expression front, the RV6 allows a distinct expression pedal in. Anybody have much to say on that point?

@@kissapeles Boss pedals are famous for their durability. It will easily serve for 40 years. I know it, for my oldest Boss is from 1982, which is literally 40yrs, and it works exactly as back then and I never had any issues with it whatsoever🏆 There’s no way to know how durable are TC from this line. My two older ones (my SCF from the first series from 1979 and the one from Nova line) have issues with knobs, power and switches. My philosophy: in the studio and at home I use TC, for they’re more fragile, and I gig with Boss, cause they’re sturdy AF and absolutely NOBODY cares what reverb you use as long as you play about something and keep the energy right😊

Listening through a set of Sony MDR-7506 headphones while reading comments. Every time I heard something that I thought was fantastic I scrolled up to see what it was... HOF2 every single time. I came here hoping it would be the Boss... Boss just sounds more processed. HOF2 sounds very natural and warmer to my ear. Both are obviously great pedals but I think the HOF2 takes it by far. I like the design of the HOF2 also.. bigger, better knobs. Thanks for the comparison!

They are both great, but differ in several ways .... the best one *for you* depends on what you want to do with it. The HOF2 has a PC editor and dlownloadable toneprints, so you can customise it a lot more .... and it has the mash footswitch to act as an expression pedal .... the RV6 has an expression pedal input and Boss quality .... personally I have both, plus several others, and I use different ones at different times ...

When you turned up the tone on the TC for room, it didn't sound that different. It did for the Boss.

I'm listening to these comparisons while driving on the interstate. The road pretty much covers up the Hall of Fame. I can hear it but not detailed enough. But the boss rv6 is turned up louder. I hear it fine. I don't think it's a huge difference but definitely noticeable if there's something exactly as loud as one of the pedals (like driving 70 down the interstate)

good comparison. Even though I think the HOF might be slightly cheaper and better (toneprint is pretty cool) I think i'll probably go with boss as theres a 5 year warranty. I've read of too many issues with the TC HOF failing to have much faith in it not crapping out on me after 1 year.

I ended up with a hof that crapped out on me a few minutes after plugging it in. I just went ahead and bought the rv6 after taking it back because I've heard of too many issues with the hof to take the chance of getting another one that craps out on me.

RV-6 has an Expression pedal input, the HOF2 has a MASH button which means the footswitch *is* an expression pedal .... it varies the effect depending on how hard you press down on the footswitch.

I dont understand, the rv6 sounds horrible in this video, and the hof2 sounds great. Every other video the rv6 sounds better? The rv6 in this video seems like all the settings have the same vibrato trailing off at the end, giving a real "digital" feeling sound, while the hof2 sounds really natural and smooth.. im still stumped on what to get. Im leaning toward the hof2

I just purchased the RV-6, and in hindsight, I should have gone for the TC HOF, just for the pre-delay. In live recording, it makes a big difference. The pre-delay allows for the original signal to cut through the mix better IMHO. I used my old Zoom MS-70CDR again this week because it has pre-delay. Not bad for $100.

Ryan Lutton The rv6 has a best shimmer but without extra reverb. The mod is best in HoF2. (sorry my bad english).

It took me a while, but I got the MXR and I am not disappointed! I tried the HOF (the first) and the Boss RV, and in my opinion the shimmer on the Boss sounds too processed, and to be honest the MXR is overall better than the HoF. However, if the choice came down to these two, I would go for the TC instead of the RV.

Bruno Cavaco Cunha The Immerse is superior to the MXR and cost a few cents more,stereo ins outs,better more relistic algorithms,om the MXR you need a special stereo ins cables,its a bit more complicated for stereo setups,but aint a bad reverb at all.
