TUCSON CORNELIA & GILA BEND railroad was incorporated in 1915 for use by the New Cornelia Mine. at Ajo. Originally, the railroad was intended to connect to Tucson Arizona US. The railroad was in operation from 1916 until the 1980s.
I tried to travel in the month of September 2023 the almost 45 miles of tracks that are still complete but I was only able to do only 3 miles. The reason is that it is full of bushes and there are even trees in the middle of the trakcs, which made me continually derail. impossible to transit.

This was a tough journey Archie, but you and Zorrito did really well for a first trip along those rails. So many trees, and tracks out of gauge, too. Glad you made it back safely, and I hope you'll come here again sometime.

@chichard86

A live or solid axle that turns both back wheels at the same time would help a lot. Only having one wheel powered is pushing your cart down the tracks at an angle and explains the hard starts and derailments. Looks like a good time otherwise!
@willykrupp441
@willykrupp441 5 месяцев назад
Saludos Amigo...!!

A few miles of the TCGB RR right-of-way is in a gated area for I believe about 15 miles towards Ajo. Hidden Arizona did a drive thru (by car) of the old TCGB route a few years ago. The tracks get way worse as you progress. There are some parts of the tracks that have inches of sand piled onto them. As much as it sucks that you were able to get so far, kind of cool that you did. Your cart is probably the first wheels that it is seen in quite some time.
@BillinHungary
@BillinHungary 6 месяцев назад
It is gated, because it passes through what is now a US Air Force Bombing Range! So I don't think you would want to go through there with Zorrito!

Awesome video! I wonder if traction tape on your drive wheel would help with launching from a standstill. You can find it at boating and pool supply stores for ladders in wet applications. Also, would a more-powerful engine in conjunction with a 10-speed bicycle transmission be able to get you going a little smoother? Last suggestion: Would a push bar with blade-like extensions over the front wheels help cut through the brush and cut down on derailments?
@archiemoreno

Very good idea about the belt for the drive traction, and the speeds, I think the motor I have is capable of 7 HP. Thank you very much for the tip

I have seen @CarsandCameras use CVT transmissions on their small predator motors with their carts, I wonder if something like that could be effective or if it would add unnecessary cost or weight. I am interested in your wheels on your carts and want to look and see if you have made a video about your cart, I wonder if wider wheels might help keep on the track when there are problems with the rails distance.@@archiemoreno

No resulta nada complicado, solo dedicarle tiempo.

@craigd1275
@craigd1275 7 месяцев назад
That track is in Mexico. I doubt Amtrak would go in and out of Mexico. It would require riders to have a passport. Plus it would be too easy to rob the train. Also people could easily bring guns into Mexico by just toss8ng them out the window to a waiting cartel member. .
@glennfoster2423
@glennfoster2423 7 месяцев назад
Where did you get that drivel? The railroad is in Arizona between Ajo and Gila Bend. As for firearms, Amtrak and cartels -- all of that is unsupported mental anguish.. Leave the railfan opinions to the qualified foamers
@craigd1275
@craigd1275 7 месяцев назад
@@glennfoster2423 My mistake. I thought I was watching a video from Mexico. I had previously started watching a video of a rail cart in Mexico, and I thought I clicked on the same one to finish it, but I guess it was a different one. I should have realized it was in the US when the guy spoke Spanish. Amtrak doesn't own any tracks. They just rent or lease other railroad companies tracks. They do not make enough money to repair that section of railroad, so I doubt they will be using it. In Northern California Amtrak uses Union Pacific tracks. Union Pacific can't even repair their own tracks even with the amount of money they make. There is no way Amtrak has enough money. Maybe the federal government will pay to repair that section. .
