A Lacanian psychoanalysis of the trading card game phenomena, in particular the success of the Pokémon Franchise, and the effects it’s had on us psychologically and economically. Using Lacan’s theory of desire and the ‘Skinner Box’, I pose a theory as to why this franchise, as well as many others has been so well internalized and continues to grow to this day.
If you’re mad at me, Lacan would say it’s because I’m threatening your object of desire. That’s not my intention. I’m not above this at all clearly I have a bulbasaur tattooed on my leg.
