Tchaikovsky - Concert Fantasy in G Major Op.56 Piano: Jinsang Lee, Conductor: Daejin Kim Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra Great Composer Series - Tchaikovsky (26 September 2013) Seoul Arts Center, Concert Hall
Bravo to all for a superb performance of this neglected work. It had both poetry and ebullience with a spatial breadth that enabled the music to breathe. Tchaikovsky allowed himself to experiment by writing a concerto fantasy in which normal formal conventions could be abandoned. This makes it a difficult piece to bring off convincingly, but how effective it can potentially be is amply borne out here.
I agree, thought I knew all Tchaikovsky's works, this is a new discovery for me, it's also on CD's with his 3 concertos, so I will buy it and enjoy it even more.
Superb performance of this all-too-often neglected work which deserves to find a place in concert halls more often. It has all the passion, invention, and melody of the best of Tchaikovsky.
This is a much neglected piece. When I was 24, I'm 60 now, this piece dominated my love for my partner at that time, Kevin, also a doctor, before he committed suicide. So this music remains with me in so many ways. So many ways.
