would have been nice to see how the 'e-ink' display behaves in bright sunlight. Does it reflect sunlight like a real e-ink device or will it need to ramp up the brightness like a classic LCD? That is, after all, the primary benefit of e-ink displays. That and low power-consumption.

it is not. styluses are generally not universal especially cross brands.

My Nxtpaper 40 came with a stylus and cover. The phone has a capacitive touch and not a pressure sensitive digital layer (as on TCL Nxtpaper 11 which has 4096 pressure level and I have separate pen for that). I do digital sketches on my Nxtpaper phone and there is no pressure sensitivity. So I think any stylus would suffice.

Can you tell us which Android version this is running at the time of this review? The phone has been out for at least 6 months now and I believe released with Android 13 but TCL isn't great with updates but at around $170 online, it's great as a secondary device for around the house use. Also can you tell us which monthly security patch it's currently on?

I have this phone and it is still on Android 13 but I did get a recent update of the security patch-dated 5 March 2024. I have been very happy with this as a daily driver but I focus on reading and no gaming.
