Here it is, the last video in the series of NXTPAPER devices i think we will be doing for a while.
This is the TCL 12 Pro. Quite the amazing unit all things considered. There is even the e-Pen that comes with it

does it reduce eyes strain ultimately? I think that is the only important point

As an owner of 12 Pro I can tell you that it does not reduce strain more than the night mode (software blue light reduction) on any device with lcd screen. However, I find the screen pretty great regardless, it's matte, anti-glare, quite pleasant to write on with a stylus (however, not as good as Onyx Boox factory paperlike film)

Eyestrain comes from focusing on close objectd for a long time, happened to me using phones and books best way to mitigate it is the 20 20 20 rule. Every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet (or more) for 20 seconds

If it's not e-ink but an lcd than it's just another 'not-ipad tablet'. What's the point? Where's my A4 color e-ink device to read comics/manga and pdf's with illustrations? Where is Steam for comics/manga? I think there's a whole market waiting for that A4 device to kickstart the business. (I know it's wishfull thinking on my part)

I know e-ink is technically a copyright or trademark but in my mind it's also synonymous with the system you refer to multiple times as e-paper. Thorough review. I just wish it was about how well it worked in sunlight or was it better than a reflective lcd tablet. I own a 2nd Gen Nook. I never felt compelled to upgrade it but I barely use it either.

It's interesting, I was about getting the 11 one last month, to use mainly as auxiliary work monitor running AnyDesk and RU-vid. But I enjoy my Hisense Q5 and Eyemoo S1 is my bet.

Did you test it in bright sunlight? That’s the whole point of being called ‘e-paper.’ For example, the Pebble Watch color displays were LCD but were reflective so it was even easier to see in bright sunlight compared to subdued lighting.

I don't know, but I have the 11 model (TCL nxtpaper 11) and it is great, honestly. If you use the reading mode and a low light, you will enjoy a good reading experience... I love it!

Hm, hard to say. I'm an owner of 12 pro, and in my experience the blue light filtering is the same in this device as in any software-enabled one. However, I'm not sure about other qualities, namely matte surface and writing feel. Not sure you can have both with a third-party film. Plus this screen doesn't collect as much fingerprints (and they're less visible and easier to remove) as more traditional screens despite it not being oleophobic.

i have this nxtvision feature on my TCL phone.. it does have the same features, including the ability to see the screen with polarised sunglasses, but its not marketed as epaper.. this tablet is pretty nice tho and the matte screen protector would be good for writing and make it more paprelike..

It's available in Europe but rebranded as XP Pen Magic Drawing Pad. Comes with an updated stylus as well or maybe it's a sidegrade because there's no tilt anymore but 16k pressure levels instead of 8k.

For productivity this one is going to be a lot nicer, for your eyes the other one. If you are unsure I think for most people a nice tablet is going to be a better fit. Eink is slow but the eye-friendliest option, so it would be nice to have dedicated device for reading, depending on usage.

I've had this device for a few months now. Never used it under direct sunlight, but it would probably be less than tolerable. Works great when your're outside but in the shadow though. Glossy screens (like on my smartphone) become uncomfortable even in these conditions, but this matte screen works perfectly.

If it's not really reflective LCD (RLCD), it's still not readable in sunlight, and therefore not really a replacement for e-ink devices.

You are correct, it is not an E-ink replacement. Readability under direct sunlight is better than other ips screens though. I say It's poor marketing on part of TCL. But that doesn't mean that the screen and device are bad :)

@@im_piano No, maybe not bad, but kinda pointless. When you label a device "epaper", you create a very specific expectation. But this is just a regular LCD tablet with a screen that maybe puts a little less strain on the eyes. I know that "e-ink" is a brand, but most people associate a term like "epaper" with e-ink or e-ink-like technology, so to me, this "epaper" label here is very deceiving.

@@bellissimo4520 This one is marketed as paper-like. The 11 one was marketed as "electronic paper". I suppose they change because people compain it is reminecent of epaper.

@@okutaviof Let's be honest here - if they use the term "paper" in any combination, every normal person thinks of e-ink and expects something similar. Reflective LCD at least shares some of the properties of e-ink in regards to not directly sending lights into the eyes, but to call any regular LCD "paper-like" more or less amounts to fraud for me.

If these filters were implemented on an OLED screen, it could fool an eye to think it is e-ink like. That being said, OLED uses less energy for image (in certain situations) and OLED could be used without backlight (though still hard to make)... there is an idea, but still early one.

It's a 12.2" tablet an iPad Air is 10.9", of course the iPad is lighter... it's a good chunk smaller. This here is literally a tablet with a matte glass LCD display, a far cry from an e-ink device.

I don't think I've ever seen such an uninformative video that long. literally missed all major concerns about the device. don't get me wrong, it's a well put together video, it's just not a review of the product. maybe a how does it feel to write on it would've suited it better.
