Yes please do continue the TV picture settings guide series. It's thanks to you, I pulled the trigger on a TCL S535 and your guidance helped in making the picture actually look beautiful, after a few additional color tweaks.
I am just now watching this video (13 days after you posted it)....but if you haven't already figured it out for the "auto-game mode" option, you have to enable "allow auto low-latency mode" in the VIDEO MODES on your xbox.
You can see at 2:38 at the bottom of the list the menu entry "Apply All Picture Settings" which allows you to copy over the tunings to all other inputs
Hey Caleb, just a little bit of feedback for these picture setting videos. I would recommend going through the settings and getting an idea for what you're wanting to do and what each setting actually does, before doing these. While I'm going through my setup with you, I was hoping you'd explain what some of them did and you would say something like "I'm not sure what this does yet, but we'll find out later.". If you could do a little on hand research before these videos so you know what you're delving into, that'd be fantastic and much more helpful. Love your videos as always!
I don't have the 5 series, but I do have the 6 series. Enabling auto game mode there requires you to go to the input settings for the input you have the console hooked up to while it is on and enabling the setting there.
Yes please keep making these videos! I got 546 a while ago but I ended up getting a bad panel. Didn't wanna try my luck with the same TV so I got the 535 and have been happy since. Sometimes I wish I got a 546 for the brightness but 535 is fine for my use, as I also have a series 6 tv.
Can you go thru how to switch to different HDMIs ports on the TV I didn't see that on the video. Reason being I have use all 3 ports for different devices, on the Roku TCL it lets me choice on the screen between the 3.. Thanks
The cec and earc turn on has to be completed deep into the settings menu with input settings. It took me about 45 mins to find if not longer and was extremely frustrating.
Hi, when watching content with really dark areas on my TCL I get what I can only describe as pixelating dark areas. Is that a way to stop or reduce this? Thanks
The TV will not enter game mode until you actually enter the game. Just going into the input is not enough to flip it over. To your point though, you would have to go into the inputs menu and then enable variable refresh rate and auto game mode to make that work. So, I think you make your point but I think most gamers would go into the input mode to make sure that it's set up correctly.
That has been a consistent issue for me on the TCL 5 and 6 series. If there is ever a dip in the signal the TV will switch out of game mode and go back into game mode causing a flickering of the screen. So switching it over to game mode for the input and general may be a better option over the long run. However if you are going to be trying to split the input with both streaming media and gaming you will definitely be losing some quality of the picture. That is of course if you're not up to just switching it manually
Thank you DT for this video. I bought a S546 and set it up with your recommendations. I am very happy with the picture and glad I chose this tv. The picture is impressive and the sound thru my 5.1 sound bar is great.
YES, YES, YES!!!! Please Caleb could you do one of this settings guide to OLED LG A1/B1/C1/... and also for Sony TVs. This is really great and helpfull for people like me that don't know as much as you but want to get the best of their TVs. In my case i own a OLED LG A1 and i know it is not the best one on LG lineup but i belive that with your advise i can make it a lot better. Thank you very much and keep doing this great content.
I like the sports preset I find the movie too warm for my taste though as you say you can turn down and custom the setting... I also like the low power setting I mean most of the others look better and get brighter but coming from the 4 series the Low power setting on that was bad unusable bad...... Here I could see using it for daily use it's good and saves power........ A big thing is the clarity /motion blur most profiles even low power have it enable by default....... This causes jittering and some perceived audio sync issues with people lips... Not sure why it's even on by default ( nor what it's supposed to do) ... Many of the neg reviews for this TV come from that and it could have been avoided by just not enabling it by default...
Caleb, Thanks for your awesome videos! Keep them coming. 👍 You seem to be covering important aspects on the TVs. I think, instead of getting TVs from the manufacturer, it would be good to get paid for a TV that you buy from a store. Not sure if that works. But it will give the viewers that peace of mind that you weren't given a TV that wasn't throuh panel-lottery or purpose-built for TV reviewers. And when you do these settings-guide videos, I would prefer if you pre-run your settings to see what works the best rather than doing it on the fly during the video. I am sure your viewers would like to see that you have tried and tested your recommendations.
Idk why but apart from oled tvs tcl have one if not the best black level on led tvs is impressive! Specially when you compare this black levels to a more pricey brand like a led Samsung or a led LG the black levels on this TCL tvs are impressive, at least from the series 4 forward
What happened to the motion settings? I don’t see them anymore in settings on my S546. I am using a 4K Max Fire Stick. When I switch to my ONN 4K, I see all the motion settings. I’m not sure why the Fire Stick won’t show these settings.
A90j would be interesting because I don't understand some of the settings like film mode or reality creation and some reviewer lower the features. Also they add some ps5 exclusive features I don't find
I really like this TV in store mode (don't hate me)... But it keeps bringing motion back on each time I turn it on. When I try to duplicate store mode settings settings in home mode I can't come close to brightness I need. Is there a secret brightness setting that only turns on in store mode? Thanks!
Having an issue where there are cool/greenish tones in skin, and highlights are a little washed out. Disabling quick start remedies this. Looks like a bug? Is there any permanent fix aside from leaving quick start disabled?
Hi Caleb - Thanks for the configuration guides, appreciate your work. Do you have a similar video for LG C1? My new 77" C1 is getting delivered next week. Can't wait!
Just bought this TV and out found it to be completely unwatchable due to flickering in every picture mode except Movie mode which I suppose is why you recommended this setting. Boxing it up going back to the store.
I've been bouncing back and forth between the 5 and 6 series. It's not a huge price difference between the two, but I doubt I'll use 4k120 often. The better light zoning is really the only thing making me want the 6. Anyone have thoughts?
Google tv isn't working that well on this tv. It's very sluggish and apps sometimes crash. I'm hoping an update will fix it but the processor may be underpowered
@@Red.exe7 Leaning towards the 6 for the local dimming, but also leaning towards not spending money because spending that much in one chunk males me sick haha
Okay so the tv has reset options on both white balance options and in color calibration so if there's any way you could send me the values you put in that would help out a lot because I can reset everything if it sucks on mine
Hello Caleb! Wondering if your considering a review on the Samsung qn900a 85inch. I am considering that tv and the Sony z9j 85 inch , which you reviewed! Your review on the z9j was spot on. Thanks you. Julio
Perfect timing..I just bought this TV 2 days ago and struggling to get perfect settings. I am surprised by the inky blacks on this budget model. Can you pls make video on 2 point color calibration for home users ? There are lot of videos around setting but every panel is different and most buyers in this price range do not go for professional calibration.
did you watch the video he said he wont make those videos because every tv is different and those settings can actually make it look worse then before on yours
In disney plus, when set to dolby vision bright everything looks super grainy but things look fine for dolby vision dark. Any reason why this might be? The quality looks great in dolby vision dark but looks unwatchable in light mode.
I have this TV having a problem with game mode I think I put the TV into movie mode but then I changed it to Game Mode then I shut the TV off then I turned it back on and it went right back to movie mode is it supposed to do that I want to keep it in game mode while I'm watching TV thank you
You have to set up the inputs to enable some of the features on the HDMI. at least that is how the 6 Series 646 is and I'm sure the sane is for this set
You needed to do some stills on people faces. Anyone who is Caucasian will be red in the face by default. I was able to make it better by adjusting the 2 point but it's still a bit off.
Is there any way to customize the Home screen? I want to always have our HDMI 1/XBOX input quickly available without having to hit the gear icon. I'd also like to be able to 'pin' the apps we use the most there, and remove the DOZENS we will never use that Google seems determined to ram down our throats :D
Caleb, love the videos. I'd love to know if the same settings can apply to the 6 Series Google TV. Also, on mine I noticed that the performance has been slow!!! Wonder what your experience has been. Doing a factory reset to see if that helps.
I think you should give us picture settings for all TV's you review ideally a bright room and dark room settings. We understand all panels may be different and only true calibration will give the best results but for many that isn't accessible or affordable. Any help you can offer will be appreciated. Love your videos keep em up.
Quick question: When I do Dolby Vision Bright, the picture has such high contrast that the blacks are too black, and, for example, somebody's coat does not look detailed but instead just dark. With Dolby Vision Dark on, said jacket looks lighter color-wise and more detailed because I can see more. I know you said you prefer Bright, so is there a different setting I need to change? I thought I had all other settings as per this video but it just doesn't look right to me. BTW - I am streaming Dolby Vision content via the Apple TV app.
Dolby Vision looks terrible on netflix (at least for me) is anyway to turn this off? I know theres a button combination but only seems to work out on roku, does anybody know the code for this series 5 google tv version?
