I really do love this game, especially as a huge Conan fan. You can absolutely tell it's by the same designers of the similarly-excellent "War of the Ring".
Thanks for your candor... I am an avid collector of Conan the Board Game, and saw this title on eBay... I am going to pass, as it sounds just as frustrating as it is enjoyable
Well it's been my absolute favorite game for years now, but I agree it is fiddly. However I can point out one thing from your review that added to the fiddliness is that each player is not supposed to roll the fate dice. The player who wins the first Conan bid rolls them, then what they roll forms the dice pool and players, in turn, choose one of the available dice from the pool until they're gone then the next player rolls them and forms another dice pool. I'm curious as to what it said you could do that you could not find an advantage for?
Good point about the dice. To be honest, it's been a few months since I played this and recorded the review. I don't recall what exactly at this point, but I just remember the frustration with the rule book.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer well about the rule book.. I read it and after 2 hours and some quick look ups on the first game I can't say that it was a drag. The game is quite straightforward
X-wings minis player here (also a FF game). I don't quite understand how a company this successful, handling so many big name franchise products, manages to continuously issue rules, game cards, etc. that are so poorly written. the original rule book for x wing is about 27 pages iirc, and the errata for it, which you have to access online, is much larger, plus a large percentage of the cards have had to be rewritten. New editions/expansions come out (and its been five or six years since X wing has debuted and many expansions later) and guess what? new cards, poorly written! I would think that someone would hire an editor for the rules writers there, but nope.
I'm finding that my taste seems to line up pretty close to yours. I'm hoping to get it on the table someday but too many games and not enough gamers or game nights!
A very interesting review, I was wondering about this game. How does it work with lower play count? And have to ask Cody where does Conan come from? You got too many syllables there. :)
