best deal on goodyear air hose check this out amzn.to/3b5cJvy Correction on the 2009 and up the oil spec is 507. 505.1 is for 2006
I have also decided to change the fuel pump on a maintenance interval of 100k miles on the HPFP because it usually lasts that long and I dont want to let it go bad causing metal shavings in the system.

Don't be discouraged to buy a TDI. JUst follow proper maintenance with recommended fluids. Fluids cost a bit more but at 10K oil change intervals and 100K mi timing belt intervals they are actually cheaper to use. I have over 375K miles on the '04 BEW tdi and other then timing belts and routine maintenance, I changed the alternator and lift pump in the fuel tank. The cost per mile on this car is far lower then any other car i have owned.

Yeah as much as I appreciate this guy's work, he's not really right on a lot of stuff. First thing that kind of oil that he's using, it's just really not good. Secondly, he sounds like the guy that listens to every single thing that the dealer tells him. Just my two cents, but personally I'd look at a different video

It's not just the oil. The good oil is mainly for the turbo, which runs too hot for conventional oil. The cams after the ALH engines (such as on BRM, BHW, BEW, etc) are very aggressive... PD engine....aggressive cams that were not made of a hard enough material (such as how colt cams does it).

The pump doesn't need to be 9000 frigging dollars. You just need to educated yourself and do it your for 500. Change out your own timing belt for 300. Check all your hoses. Change your own oil. Research all the repairs now, before ya even have any problems and you can do it when you want to prevent problems later. Its not a hard engine to work on.
@94nolo
@94nolo 4 года назад
VW spec oils (low SAPS) oil are only necessary so as to not ruin your DPF with hot ash. Otherwise, any high quality 5w30 synthetic is likely fine. I personally run Amsoil 500 07 spec anyway, but I know I'll be deleting my DPF. So any prior damage to that from improper SAPS count oil won't be a big deal for me. Shouldn't damage anything else though. Just DPF.

The following is copied and pasted from a VW oil specs list ******************************* VW 505.01 Special engine oil for VW turbodiesel engines with pump-injector-unit and for the V8 Commonrail turbodiesel engines. Meets ACEA B4 SAE 5W-40 specification. VW 506.01 These oils are especially for "Pumpe-Düse" (unit injector or "PD" engines) running on extended service intervals (30,000 - 50,000km / 24 months). Oil change is indicated by the electronic service indicator. VW 507.00 Low SAPS oils suitable for Euro 4 engines and almost all VAG diesel engines from 2000 onwards with extended service intervals, unitary injector pumps and also Pumpe-Düse ("PD") engines. Excludes V10, R5 engines and VW Commercial vehicles without fitted DPF (diesel particulate filters) - these must use a 506 01 specification oil. ******************************* What I know, 505.01 is 5w40 and 5w30 506.01 is 0w30 507.00 is 5w30 and 0w30 If its a PD or common rail engine, I'd use 5w30 507.00. Most of the oil brand websites have an Which Oil app to tell you which oil to use. A good oil filter is equally important. Hengst or Mann is my choice.

Early 2.0TDI commonrails from model year 2009 (at least here in Europe) had HPFP failures. The dealers said here first that "You have filled gas" and that caused the pump failure. One guy had Audi A4 B8 2.0 TDI with pump failure and the dealer quoted the guy 8000 euros for repair!! This pump thing in early commonrails is a DESIGN FLAW!!! Nothing to do with fuel quality. The roller flips side ways to the cam and grinds it flat. Older diesels (BKD, BKN etc.) with pump injectors did not have this flaw.. Oil quality is an absolute MUST. VW 505.01 is the code for pump injector motors. 507.00 for newer commonrails. Brand does not matter, it's the spesification. About 20000km/13000mi is good interval for oil change.

If it's a catastrophic failure, it is possible. The last time we did one it was about 5-6k as I remember. As far as doing it yourself, if you're capable, have the right tools and the time yes you can. However, you will need to replace far more than just the HPFP. Also a remanufactured pump is 900.00. New? 1500.00 Then add the fuel injectors, lines, lift pump, fuel tank, filters and miscellaneous and you'll easily see 3500 or more for parts + labor.

You'll have to do all your maintenance yourself to feel like you're saving any money. The high maintenance costs offset any fuel savings you get. I struggled with this for years.... 9,000$ is only sometimes the case depending on the nature of the high-pressure fuel pump failure WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING. Replacing the HPFP before it fails is a few hundred dollars for the part and easy to replace oneself.
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 5 лет назад
good point and made a video on that subject. Dont wait for failure maintain I am doing mine at 100k miles. which is pretty early but better safe than sorry.
@michaelh2034
@michaelh2034 5 лет назад
It's not that easy to replace and the parts are more than a few hundred as you claim.

that is cheap. we need those here. about 600 USD. for factory original. THere is a retrofit that is cheaper but I dont know anything about them

That coolant os not original. It is very clear if it is pink. If the original (G5x) is used it does not have to be changed... Ever. If you use that cheap stuff it will have to be changed every 4-6 years..

thanks for your tip on a previous video, my tdi engine would not turn , ir turned out to be the alternator was seized, as you suggested in ur vid ,saved me fitting a replacement engine as suggested by a local mechanic , hmm not a v good one
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 8 лет назад
I am glad to hear it was not the engine. Very unusual to have the alternator seize up. Usually it makes a great deal of noise before it does that. Yea one of the old rules of thumb is to remove the belt and turn the engine to see if anything is holding it up. Also not the flywheel either. flywheel usually makes a shuttering noise when you turn off the engine for several months before you have a flywheel that comes apart.

Great detail, just bought a 05 sdi non turbo 150k miles for 900 , drove 200 miles home last night no prob, a bit shuddery puling off in 1st gear, and a bit rough on idle, no service history but for 900 ,worth the risk, now have two vw diesel great cars!

Replacing the HPFP is $9000.00? Can you back that up with credible information?
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 2 года назад
Yea it is all over (there is a fix its called cp3 conversion).....Dealer cost at least 9000....New injectors fuel pump, all 3 fuel pumps are ruined because they have magnets in the motors fuel rail should be replaced. all lines cleaned out. . Fuel tank needs to be removed and cleaned total cost $9000. Here is one forum they are all over the place. forums.tdiclub.com/index.php?threads/catastrophic-high-pressure-fuel-pump-failure.455699/ parts from cheapest place. www.cascadegerman.com/product/high-pressure-fuel-pump-hpfp-kit-cbea-cjaa/

@sulliey

not really. With proper oil service, should be good. Cams are problematic in these BRM`S, so expect to replace it with lifters etc.

I fixed the fuel pump myself. Just make sure you get the OEM gasket kit. In any case, a new one isn't that expensive.

Lack luster video. Please have more points in your video. Talk about the other failure points: Headliners, Door Harness, DMF disintegration, sun roof, pressure sensors, window relays, headlight and tail light harnesses, etc. My factory BRM camshaft has over 206 thousand miles without excessive wear. Always used Rotella T6 or Royal Purple.
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 5 лет назад
the only think I worry about when using T6 is that the oil residue may cause more build up in the EGr cavities.

Its not. The engines are bulletproof. If you use good oil and get regular maintainance, they last for 500.000 miles. The 2.0 is another story. The 1.9 TDI is the best one
