These books were so cozy and charming! I love domestic arts. I am not so much into patchwork but I like baking, knitting, embroidering, making Christmas or other seasonal decorations on your own and so on. Every year, I prepare handmade Christmas cards written in Gothic alphabet. That scarf with the suffragette colors is gorgeous!

Your Christmas cards sound so beautiful! I'm so interested in the domestic arts too and would really like to gain more skills in the area, but time always tends to be a bit of an issue. However, I would love to start my pin cushion and a bit of cross stitch this month! I'll have to share my progress in my April Tea & Tattle video. Hope you're keeping safe and well xxx

Everything in this video drips with charm! Domestic arts bring me happiness, too. The patchwork pin cushion is a brilliant idea...I could really use a pin cushion as I embroider reproduction samplers and do a ton of counted cross stitching on linen. I'm currently working on a wee project of stitching my mom Victorian bookmarks. Please show us your cross stitch kit when it finally arrives. Will listen to your mother/daughter podcast next! Even the words "buttercup tin" grab me. So descriptive and pretty. I'm smitten with yellow flowers in general as they are so cheery. I recognized the suffragette colours right away! We are in the midst of another snow storm (six in the last seven days) so could really use that scarf! 😄

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Making Victorian bookmarks sounds like such a beautiful and satisfying project. I'll definitely show the cross stitch kit - I hope I get it safely! Hope you enjoy the podcast and that you get some sunshine soon! xxx

Lovely video and book choices Miranda, I think the Jane Austen embroidery book not only has lovely projects but the writing is very interesting too. For EPP I would recommend trying Ashmead Designs Hexiforms which are foam-like pre-cut forms you leave in. They are a lovely family business in Devon and are still able to post. They have some sweet kits that you would be able to do as a beginner. Sue Daly has some good videos and I would recommend watching the one about hexagons . One thing I find makes a huge difference is the needle you choose to use, I like a size 9 straw needle as it is flexible, a good thread which will disappear into the fabric too. For your cross stitch I think I'd like to recommend a free download I did recently which is a Jane Austen quote from The Sampler Girl and there are lots on Pinterest too. Can't wait to see how you get on. Keep well and safe, Teresa 🧵📚

Thank you so much for your very helpful comment! I have ordered a pin cushion kit, needles and hexagons from Ashmead Designs and am looking forward to it all arriving. I'll check out The Sampler Girl too. Take care! xxx

The Green Knowe books were some of my very favorites in childhood and I still love to reread them as an adult.

Your mention of quilting and embroidery made me think of one of Tracy Chevalier's novels, 'The Last Runaway' which I think features an expert quilter as the protagonist. I haven't read it yet but it's definitely on my to-read list. One small pleasure that I've been loving is a local tea subscription box that I get every month. I love being surprised with new teas that I can try. Another pleasure is your latest podcast with your mum. I lost mine a few years ago and we were always reading and chatting about books together. It made me smile to know that you have such a wonderful relationship.

I read 'The Last Runaway' and very much enjoyed it! I love that Tracy Chevalier is still quilting today after doing so much research for that book. Thank you for your lovely words about podcast episode with my Mum; I'm so glad it brought back happy memories of your Mum too xxx

Working from home 8am to 4 pm but taking walks with my son and reading more has kept me busy! I’m also ordering a lot on the web. I have been indulging in beauty products, books, perfumes... trying to buy locally too. 🙂
