i don't think the industry has realized yet how many former trainees/idols are on youtube now. they are revealing the truth about how the monster eats and breathes. eventually the horrors of the industry will be laid bare and so widely known that it will begin to negatively effect the pool of talent seeking entry into the industry. there will always be people who charge headlong toward their dream despite the trauma that lays ahead, but little by little the best talent will be frightened out of pursuing a field that will eat them alive. kpop is literally scaring away its own future. but we can't blame the industry, they do this because we ask them to. our demand fuels the monster. it's our fault young people get exploited by really shitty people.

This is the reality sadly. Not everyone can become famous or a star. Show business is a competition. This is true for not just kpop, but in the USA, U.K., India, etc. For every star you see on tv or RU-vid there were at least 50 others who didn't make it and who worked just as hard or sometimes even harder. It's an unfair reality but this is the truth. Not everything is glitz, glam, and fun.

Don't quote me on that, I'm not an expert, I'm just making a suggestion. On a semi-related-but-not-really note, one company that I do believe is shifting the k-pop industry in a better direction is Starship Entertainment. They let their idols speak freely about subjects which are controversial in Korea (LGBTQ, BLM, gender roles, the age hierarchy, etc), there's no suggestion of abuse towards their idols, and hell after Wonho left Monsta X they created a sub-company so they could continue to represent him as a solo artist (Wonho used the money from being a k-pop idol to support his family, so they literally made a new company so he didn't have to lose that 😭) Fun Fact (I just think it's adorable and I need to share): Taeyoung (from CRAVITY) had his hair dyed LGBTQ flag colors including the LGBTQ flag (rainbow), the bisexual flag (blue, purple, and pink), and the lesbian flag (orange, white, and pink) :)

Even if someone wants to date outside of their age group, when it's a teenager, esp. a younger teen, it smacks of pedophilia. There was an "incident" in the german media last year where around 185 actors and actresses outed themselves as part of LGBTQ+. I sometimes think about how that may be a possibility for kpop idols as well. If they can get enough people who want to "out themselves" or maybe say that they're dating - nobody not even the companies or fans could cancel all groups. There must be at least two idols in each group who could benefit from such a collective scandal that takes away the pressure of a single individual 🤔

I don't agree to that quote because it does not apply to everyone. When I was in elementary I had this girl classmate who was being bullied by my 3 other girl classmates. Seeing that, I befriend her and does not let her left alone. After some time guess what? I became the next target. And you know what's worse? the girl that I helped didn't helped me and the remaining girls in my class sided with the bullies (There are only 7 girls in my class including me). Yes, I am mad at all of them. However, I also understand why the other girls didn't helped me that time because they know the moment they helped me they will be the next target. And most of the time bystanders are like that. They are also helpless and feel that they aren't powerful enough to stop the abuser. The safe choice for them is to be silent so that they will not be the next victim.

@Zeighla

@Sugaシ Okay so with that reasoning, why doesn't the abused do something about it? If fear is stopping them, maybe fear is stopping someone else as well. Also, because the abuser had a bad/traumatic experience, it's fine for them to take it out on you? And someone who is a bystander is somehow worse than someone who is inflicting the pain? Nah. Doesn't sit right with me. I do agree that it's crappy for people not to help, but if you're going to consider what the bully has gone through, then maybe first consider what the bystander has gone through. Don't take an ounce of responsibility away from abusers. They are first and foremost the bad ones. A bystander could also be bad, but not worse.

There are 100% going to be exceptions to this (Wonho, IU, Taeyang, Sandara Park, Eunhyuk, and even Taeyoung/V), but you can't ignore the fact that the vast majority of idols grew up privileged. This video was sooooo interesting. Best “tea” video to date. Lot of inside “dirt” without getting too specific (leading to people speculating who it was). So interesting to hear talk about what it’s like to be a trainee or even after you debut. One reason why it was so sad when people were “hating” on Coco when she had that dispute with her company before leaving. Always knew award shows, audition shows, music shows, etc are all rigged. It’s not about who is the best. It’s more about who is popular, who can get fans to endlessly stream and buy their music (to stack the numbers). And it’s not just the executives or producers. Fans stack their favorite’s numbers by endlessly streaming MV’s, buying cases of albums, etc. That’s why I think they should be more honest and say “the contestants will be graded by the producers, you can voice/indicate who you like, but we have the final say”.

I just checked Gina's Instagram and IU follows her. Daaamn!!! I bet she's been friends with lots of idols who debuted a long time now since she knows wonder girls and kowon jo from 2AM too.

this is why im kinda sad bc ive always thought about joining the entertainment industry since i love singing and dancing since young, but i know about all the cons and so many disadvantages and unfairness.. so I have no choice but not to follow that path as a job and do it as a hobby instead

In JYP, SM, YG, BH (the big four companies) and some other successful companies you don't have to pay for it, but a lot of them (especially smaller/medium-sized companies) you do. It can put people in crippling debt which is actually terrifying.
